Have you ever seethed at the injustice of juicy, happy grapes being crushed underfoot? Probably not. I hadn’t either, but playing Zelda-like Garden Story has changed things. It stars Concord, a purple vineyard-venturer so stalwart and noble that my empathy for grapes is now at its apex. Sommeliers. Jam makers. Raisin(eers?). M&S Holiday advert charcuterie board arrangers. Watch your fucking backs. I’m ride or die for grapes now. Garden Story has radicalised me.
]]>Tiny grape guardian adventure Garden Story had been planning a release for an unannounced date this summer and oh look! It's today. This little community sim and combat 'em up has been in the works for a bit and has ripened enough to pick at last. A new launch day trailer shows off some more of all Concord's slashing, questing, and adventuring to conquor all the Rot invading The Grove.
]]>Indies! It's nice to see the littler games take the spotlight during all the E3 festivities, a pleasant break from Ubisoft trying to make me care about Watch Dogs or something. This years' Day Of The Devs stream took place during the Summer Game Fest kickoff, giving some fresh glimpses at games like Axiom Verge 2, Unbeatable, The Wandering Village and more. If you missed the stream, fear not, here's a big list of everything shown at the Day Of The Devs showcase.
]]>The fifth Game Devs of Color Expo kicks off this weekend with presentations by a number of different creators. Although the weekend of talks is a paid event, you can spot some developer interviews and free demos being hosted by the expo over on Steam in an event called Gradient Convergence. You've got from now until Monday, to try those out if you're keen.
]]>Oh, to be a sword-swinging grape taking potshots at a sickly, tree-dwelling caterpillar. Garden Story, an absolutely delicious community sim-slash-dungeon adventure from developers Picogram, shared more of its pastel pastoral vibes in a new trailer earlier today - along with news that the town's opening ceremony has been postponed into 2021.
]]>Steam kicks off a nearly week-long spree of free game demos today with its Steam Game Festival. It is certifiably a celebration of great indie games, with demos available for some that are already released and others yet to come. There appears to be a bit of everything: puzzles, action, management, platforming, and more. Everything from Thunder Lotus' upcoming cozy management game Spiritfarer to the buzzsaw hell game Disc Room. They've all got free demos available until Monday the 23rd.
]]>"Where is it?!" I holler, rooting through game tags searching for any mention of Garden Story on RPS. "It must be here somewhere!" Alas, it is not. So I shall break the ice. Garden Story, currently in development, will be one of the current crop of very sweet town-sim type games following in the wake that Stardew Valley has cleared on PC. It's being shown off at PAX East but you can load up a free demo from home all weekend.
