MultiVersus development studio Player First Games has been acquired by the game's publisher, Warner Bros. The studio's co-founders will continue to lead the studio. The platform figher's second season is due to go live tomorrow, adding a ranked mode and new characters Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice.
]]>Everything And Then The Licensed Kitchen Sink fighting game MultiVersus returns next week after an almost year-long self-imposed post-beta exile. With the decision to pull the game from sale and turn off its servers for months on end after allowing people to sink their real-life money into unlocking costumes and such (with no refunds), its developers are now looking to seemingly give something back in return.
]]>MultiVersus - aka Warner Smash Bros, or The Game Where Scooby-Doo’s Velma Punches Batman While LeBron James Decks The Iron Giant - hasn’t quite returned from its self-imposed exile after ending its open beta last year, but it’s already adding more Iconic Characters(™) to its already teetering pile of familiar Licensed IP.
]]>The crossover throwdown of MultiVersus will return to officially launch on the 28th of May, Warner Bros. announced today. The return will come almost a year after they closed its open beta, which ran for a striking 11 months. The platform fighting game sees Batman, Bugs Bunny, Arya Stark, Steven Universe, and other characters from across different WB shows and movies coming together for a Smash Bros.-style square go.
]]>Warner Bros. crossover brawler MultiVersus is disabling online services on June 25th until the game’s full launch in early 2024, developer Play First Games have announced. Two seasons deep, the studio say they’re taking MultiVersus offline because it’s been in Open Beta this whole time (I know, shocker), so an extended break will give them time to prepare for their proper launch.
]]>Season 2 of Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus began last week, bringing with it a fresh battle pass for players to dig into. They’ll definitely be digging for a while too, because this season the amount of XP needed to complete the battle pass has nearly doubled. As MultiVersus tweeter and data miner LaisulMV noted, to complete the original Season 1 battle pass you’d need to accrue 47,650 XP to make it from Level 1 to Level 50. Season 2’s battle pass, on the other hand, requires a total of 87,450 XP. Levels 41-50 alone take almost as much effort as the first season’s entire battle pass, weighing in at 46,200 XP.
]]>Season 1 of Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus is over, and Season 2 has begun today with an update that adds more reward tiers to the battle pass. There’s also a new Big Head Mode for the game’s recently added Silly Queue, and an in-game store that brings all MultiVersus’ skins and characters into one place for the first time. Weirdly, but appropriately, the game now keeps score of baskets on the Space Jam map and tracks how far away you shoot from too, so have some fun netting three-pointers with that.
]]>Warner Bros. free to play licensed brawler MultiVersus is testing its ranked mode for a week starting today, devs Player First Games have announced. Hop into the game from 5pm GMT/6pm CET/9am PT today and you’ll find the ranked tab is accessible for the first time. Select that and you should be good to go with ranked play. Player First say they’ll be enabling ranked mode permanently once they’ve implemented any useful feedback from the alpha.
]]>As part of the game’s 1.05 patch, DC bad boy Black Adam finally joins the roster of fighters in Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus today. Adam is a bruiser and launches with an unlockable skin modelled after his classic comic book look, which nabs players extra candy during the Halloween event running through to the end of Multiversus’s first season on November 15th. Today’s 1.05 update sees an arcade mode added to the game too, along with a new casual Growth Spurt mode.
]]>Mischievous and malignant mini-monster Stripe is the next fighter coming to Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus, it’s been revealed today. Stripe will arrive in the game next week, although there’s no more details about the character just yet. MultiVersus has teased Stripe with a video you can watch below, which is all very Gremlins.
]]>What appears to be an announcer pack voiced by Mark Hamill and leaked from Warner Bros licensed brawler MultiVersus indicates that The Joker might be arriving in a future update. Twitter user Laisul shared a recording of what they claimed are lines from an unreleased Joker pack, and they do sound like Hamill’s classic rendition of the Batman villain. Why so serious? Well, announcer packs replace the default MultiVersus announcer with the voice of one of the game’s fighters, so Joker’s addition to the roster seems legit.
]]>Everyone’s most tolerated science grandpa Rick Sanchez steps into MultiVersus today as the Warner Bros. licensed brawler’s latest fighter, arriving alongside the game’s 1.03 patch. There’s a few notable tweaks to MultiVersus in the patch, including a major change to XP between levels 3 and 15. You’ll need twice as much now. Developers Player First Games have tried to rein in infinite combos, too. You can get a look at Rick by watching the trailer below.
]]>There’s a new fighter announcement incoming from Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus today, with three already revealed characters yet to release in season one. My money’s on Rick And Morty’s Rick Sanchez, but Stripe from Gremlins and the DC Universe’s Black Adam are still set to arrive too. You’ll have to wait until 6pm BST/7pm CEST/10am PST to find out who the next fighter is, according to a tweet from the MultiVersus team.
]]>Gremlins’ Gizmo has finally landed in MultiVersus, just a few days later than originally advertised. The Warner Bros. licensed brawler’s also been given an update that’s meant to improve hitboxes and hurtboxes, and rebalances characters. Watch the introductory trailer for Gizmo below. He’s a mogwai, you know, not a gremlin. I was misinformed!
]]>After teasing a reveal for Warner Bros’ licensed brawler MultiVersus earlier this week, devs Player First Games have revealed that Gizmo from kids horror film Gremlins will be the game’s next fighter. Gizmo is the original source of the gremlins, and the sweetest character from the movies, but you still wouldn’t want to mess with the little fellow. He’ll arrive on Tuesday, ahead of the already announced Stripe, Gremlins' big (small) bad.
]]>Warner Bros’ licensed brawler MultiVersus won’t be getting support for online couch co-op anytime soon, game director Tony Huynh has said. Huynh was replying to a question on Twitter about whether the MultiVersus team were working on implementing a spin on that most Nineties of features. Speaking of Nineties nostalgia, you can watch a retro trailer for MultiVersus below. Makes me feel ten again.
]]>Dimension hopper Morty Smith debuts in the Warner Bros. licensed brawler MultiVersus today minus his grandpa, super-scientist Rick, who is still expected to arrive sometime during the game’s season one. Morty will wield the plumbus, a weird chicken-leg thing that’s ubiquitous throughout the universe of Rick And Morty.
]]>Franchise mash-up brawler MultiVersus slams into season one today, despite only recently being postponed indefinitely. Although nothing has been announced yet, it appears that DC Comics supervillain Black Adam and Gremlins antagonist Stripe are new characters being teased for the game’s roster of fighters. Players are sharing screenshots and footage of ads for MultiVersus that show off the gruesome twosome.
]]>Crossover fanfiction Smash-like MultiVersus has announced that its previously delayed season one and battle pass will be launching on Monday, August 15th. Morty, also previously delayed, will be making his debut on August 23rd, and other new additions are planned throughout the season.
]]>MultiVersus won’t be heading into season one on August 9th after all, devs Player First Games have revealed. Game director Tony Huynh clarified the delay has nothing to do with the ongoing merger shenanigans between the game’s publisher Warner Bros. and Discovery, Inc. To console yourself, have a watch of vid bud Liam chatting with the RPS team about their choicest MultiVersus character picks below.
]]>Having given the MultiVersus closed beta a whirl around a month ago, I thought it was a free-to-play Smash Bros-like that came out swinging. And now I've returned to the open beta phase of the multiverse where Bugs Bunny and Taz The Tazmanian Devil are joined by... Lebron James?! Honestly, my thoughts remain largely unchanged – which is a good thing! It's a fun free-to-play fighter that iterates on the Smash formula but can't quite emulate its predecessor's polish.
]]>What are the best perks in MultiVersus? Perks are an experimental feature in the latest open beta for MultiVersus. Each of the 17 playable characters has a long set of unique moves, but perks allow you to customise each character to your liking a little more.
The game presents you with four categories of perks: Signature Perks ,which can only be applied to the character they're designed for; and Minor Perks, which can be applied to anyone in the roster and fall into three distinct purposes (Offense, Defense, and Utility). Once a character has levelled up enough to unlock all their perk slots, you can apply up to four perks to them: one of their Signature Perks, and any three Minor Perks you want.
There are two or three Signature Perks to choose from for each character, and nearly 50 Minor Perks. Any of these can be extremely useful if you have a specific character build in mind, but there are some that are more generally useful. Read on below for our picks of the best Minor Perks in MultiVersus, as well as our choice of Signature Perk for every character.

Check out the trailer below for a quick heads-up on how progression and rewards feature in the game.
]]>Rick And Morty’s Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith are joining the roster of Warner Bros. brawler MultiVersus, but not before Space Jam basketballer LeBron James. LeBron is up first, so you can expect to play as him when the open beta begins on July 26th. Rick and Morty will be added during the game’s first season. Watch the LeBron reveal trailer below.
]]>Who is the best character in our MultiVersus tier list? Patch 1.02 has brought the total number of available characters in MultiVersus to 19 with the arrival of Gizmo the Gremlin. So far, Support characters haven't ranked too high in the MultiVersus meta (with the exception of Velma), but will that change with Gizmo's release?
As we know, fighting games like MultiVersus live and die by their roster of characters and their movesets. Thankfully, Player First games have done a commendable job of making all 19 characters in the game viable in both 1v1 and 2v2 matchups.
But there's always a meta which arises after every major update. Below we'll walk you through our MultiVersus tier list for both 1v1 and 2v2 play, along with our opinion on each of the characters in the game, their strengths and drawbacks, and our reasoning behind their position in our tier list.
]]>Multiplayer free-to-play brawler MultiVersus is barrelling into open beta on July 26th, with an early access period beginning July 15th for those who played the closed alpha. Warner Bros. Interactive confirmed that progression and unlocks earned in the beta will carry forward when the game launches, so that’s nice. Marvel, not DC, at Norville ‘Shaggy’ Rogers implausibly battling the Man Of Steel in the trailer below.
]]>If you've always wanted to uppercut Batman as Bugs Bunny, the time is coming. MultiVersus is Warner Bros' spin on a Super Smash Bros-like that's free-to-play and features an all-star mishmash of franchises: Scooby Doo, Game Of Thrones, Adventure Time. Everyone is here! And having given its closed alpha a whirl, the game is great fun, even if its iterations on the Smash Bros formula aren't all that impactful.

A new cinematic trailer introduces many of those characters and their team-up potential below, but more importantly marks the launch of sign-ups for the game's imminent closed alpha test.
