]]>Great was the adulation last week when FromSoftware announced a new Elden Ring game, Elden Ring: Nightreign - and great the lamentation from certain quarters when it was revealed to be a co-op-focussed experience. If you missed the reveal, perhaps because you value sleep over the spectacle of Geoff Keighley's fashion friends, let me catch you up: in Nightreign, you pick one of eight preset characters and explore a parallel-universe version of Elden Ring's Limgrave map, fighting lesser foes and levelling up quickly so that you can battle a boss at the end of each 15-minute in-game day.

If you had absolutely no trouble with this boss, I’m happy for you, as long as you go sit in the corner and keep it to yourself. I reached the exhaustion point once, and now the DLC's come out, I'm scared I'll reach it again despite the fact I think it's very good. It's interesting then, that FromSoftware's president Hidetaka Miyazaki sees Elden Ring as "the limit" for FromSoftware in terms of project scale (cheers The Guardian for the interview, and PCGamer for the spot). I think it's a great thing, personally.
]]>YouTube is a stocked repository of hours upon hours of Elden Ring lore. Ranni’s ending? No worries. Miquella and St. Trina? We got you. Mohg and the Formless Mother? Say no more. Turtle Pope? Sit back. The frenzied flame? Make yourself comfortable. The Elden Ring itself? One page is not enough to contain it all.
And yet, what use are any of you when I cannot find a single solitary lore snippet about these idiot worms?
]]>I mentioned it briefly in my Shadow Of The Erdtree review, but there's one area of the DLC where your steed Torrent is so scared they refuse to be summoned. That's because said area is a woodland that's been steeped in shadow and chaos for so long, large goats don't dare clop their hooves. What I hadn't expected was that relying on my own two trotters would be so... revelatory. It's made me reconsider exploration in Elden Ring's open world, and conclude that using Torrent as a taxi service contributes to a feeling of disconnection.
]]>Want to know how to get to the Temple Town Ruins in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? The Temple Town Ruins are tucked away in the northwest corner of the Shadow Of The Erdtree map and are accessible right after you enter Scadu Altus, though you need to trek slightly off the beaten path to reach them. They're a useful location worth exploring if you're trying to collect everything that Elden Ring's huge new DLC has to offer.
In this guide, we'll explain exactly what you need to do to reach the Temple Town Ruins in Shadow Of The Erdtree, as well as how to get inside the ruins themselves.
]]>Looking for a full walkthrough of the Freyja quest in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? The Redmane Freyja quest is one of many new NPC questlines you can complete to get unique items and lore tidbits in Shadow Of The Erdtree. As a follower of Miquella and former comrade in arms to Radahn, Redmane Freyja is a curious character who becomes intent on discovering the promise made between the two Empyreans.
Redmane Freyja's quest will span across the Gravesite Plains, Shadow Keep and right to the endgame. Depending on your choices, you can get the impressive Golden Lion Shield and more. See below for a list of all rewards and all Freyja quest steps so you don't miss out on anything important.
]]>When I finished my review for Soulslike Lies Of P, the devs released a patch not long after that nerfed bosses and made things for ol' Pinnochio easier overall. Sod's Law struck that day… and it's returned with a smirk. Shadow Of The Erdtree has just been patched, making its Shadow Realm Blessings stronger from the off, and in turn, things a little easier for everybody. Such is the life of a reviewer, eh.
]]>Looking for a full rundown of Ansbach's questline in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Ansbach has an involved NPC questline that involves a few different characters in Shadow Of The Erdtree. As a retired follower of Mohg, his relationship with Miquella and staunch followers like Leda is somewhat complex and well worth a delve into.
Below we've gathered a thorough list of all Ansbach questline steps along with a closer look at important choices, consequences, and rewards like the Golden Lion Shield, Retaliatory Crossed-Tree Talisman, Ansbach's Longbow and more so you can get the best result possible out of the quest. We've also listed key locations of things like the Crosses and Secret Rite Scroll so you're geared up to take on the full quest.
]]>The human body is a wonderfully complex organism, and it’s well worth trusting your instincts when it comes to feeling repulsed by certain things. We know that if the milk looks bad and smells bad, it is bad. Do not taste the forbidden yogurt, as much as it calls to you. How, then, to interpret my visceral repulsion to the most disgusting Shadow Of The Erdtree build yet seen? So gross, in fact, that YouTuber SYROBE has managed to beat the Elden Ring DLC’s infamously ridiculous final boss in a mere 13 seconds. Here’s the video. Massive spoilers, obviously.
]]>Elden Ring's Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC yet hovers at Mixed in the blood-encrusted annals of the Steam user review consensus. As Nic wrote earlier in the week, a portion of the negative feedback is aimed at the expansion's difficulty, which is certainly a Thing To Hear after years of being told by kindly gamers that I only hand out low review scores because I can't press the buttons in the right order.
As publishers Bandai Namco have sweetly observed, struggling players are perhaps forgetting that you can raise your overall power level by gathering Scadutree Fragments, a system of collectibles designed to ensure a tough challenge even for endgame players, while giving you the option of effectively rebalancing the expansion through exploration. The downside there, as a few people have pointed out, is that some players don't want to hunt for collectibles before they can topple the bosses.
]]>Looking for a Church District walkthrough in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? The Shadow Keep is one of the most complicated and confusing legacy dungeons that From Software has ever created, not just in Elden Ring - and the Church District accounts for a fair bit of that confusion. Conquer the Church District, and an unprecedented number of new pathways will open themselves up to you, some of which lead to entire regions within the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC that you can't reach any other way. It's an important place, is what I'm saying.
In this Elden Ring Church District walkthrough, we'll explore how to reach the Church District of the Shadow Keep, how to lower the water level to explore it fully, and how to reach every other area that the Church District adjoins, including the Tree-Worship Passage, so you can move on in whichever direction you prefer within Shadow Of The Erdtree.
]]>Looking for the best early weapons in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Even for seasoned Elden Ring players, Shadow Of The Erdtree will pose quite the challenge with its range of new enemies and threats.
Luckily, the DLC comes with a large range of new weapons and weapon types to get stuck into. We've cultivated a list of the best early weapons in Shadow Of The Erdtree that you can pick up within the first 1-10 hours of playing in the Gravesite Plain region. If you're looking for an upgrade to the base game weapons or want to try something new in the DLC, see our full list below.
]]>Aside from its naturally satisfying rhythm and the cool audio dings of success that usually accompany it, I find something innately hilarious about parrying. Yes, yes, it’s a deeply skilled expression of martial prowess that turns your enemy’s aggression back at them. But it’s also a pleasingly low-effort method to make your opponent look very silly - the combat equivalent of waving your outstretched hand and shaking your head in unison. I assume so from videogames, anyway. In reality, I could not parry a nerf dart with a metal bin lid.
]]>Looking for the Sword Of Light or the Sword of Darkness in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? With the addition of the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion, From Software's gargantuan Elden Ring now has over mind-boggling 400 weapons to choose from. But the Sword Of Light and its sister sword, the Sword Of Darkness, are unique even among unique weapons, because they are twins that morph into one another at will. And both are first transformed from a third weapon, the Stone-Sheathed Sword.
Obtaining these blades is a confusing little puzzle which requires you to seek out the three Altars Of Light And Dark strewn about the Land Of Shadow. In this guide, we'll break it all down so you can easily find the Stone-Sheathed Sword, and understand where to go in order to transform it into the powerful Sword Of Light and Sword Of Darkness.
]]>From Software game difficulty chat is in full swing following the release of Elden Ring's Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, but cannier Soulslikers such as myself and GR’s Hirun Cryer are already leaping and bounding ahead to the next Stage of Review Discourse: which From Software game is bestest? Here to settle the matter once and for all until the next time we post about it is company president Hidetaka Miyazaki.

]]>Stuck inside the Elden Ring Fringefolk Hero's Grave dungeon? Despite being one of the first dungeons you'll come across in The Lands Between, the Fringefolk Hero's Grave does not go easy on you: you must survive a poisonous lake, deadly chariots, a fire trap, spirit warriors, and many imp attacks - if you manage to break the Fringefolk Hero's Grave seal, that is.
This guide will show you how to find the Fringefolk Hero's Grave dungeon in Elden Ring and how to explore everything it has to offer before making it out alive.
]]>Trying to beat the Elden Ring Revenant enemies? With their many limbs, poison attacks, and quick teleporting abilities, Revenants are among the most dangerous enemies in the game. Luckily, there's an easy way to defeat Revenant enemies, including the Royal Revenant boss.

]]>Want to start the Radahn Festival in Elden Ring? The Radahn Festival changes the status of Redmane Castle, allowing you to find its boss, Starscourge Radahn. Without triggering the Radahn Festival, you can't defeat Radahn, which is part of Ranni's quest and a requirement to access Nokron, the Eternal City.
Until you begin the Radahn Festival and defeat Radahn himself, you also cannot begin the new Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC. So if you want to experience everything that Elden Ring has to offer, the Radahn Festival is an aboslute must to trigger. As it's rather difficult to figure this out on your own, this guide will show you how to start the Radahn Festival in Elden Ring.
]]>Among Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree's more fearsome bosses is the Dancing Lion, a festive prancing terror inspired by Chinese Lion dances. Looking at it, you might expect this costumed nuisance to be another grafted abomination, its layers of papier-mache, binbags and repurposed carpets hiding a rippling quilt of flesh and bone, perhaps a real lion that has been shaved and stitched to its theatrical double. The truth is more appalling still: it's just two guys in a lion suit. They aren't even sewn together mouth to backside, like in the Human Centipede. Way to bait-and-switch, From!
]]>Despite an overwhelmingly strong reception with critics, Shadow Of The Erdtree is currently sitting at a ‘mixed’ review rating on Steam, with nay-sayers citing performance issues and overbearing enemy design. The Elden Ring DLC is currently metacritic’s highest rated expansion of all time at 95, beating out the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s Blood And Wine’s 92. However, roughly a third of the 41,000 user reviews on Steam are negative.
]]>Want to know how to duplicate Remembrances in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Just like the base Elden Ring game, it is possible to duplicate Remembrances in Shadow Of The Erdtree. However, the method is different from the usual Walking Mausoleums and involves locating several stone coffins throughout the Land of Shadow.
To streamline the process, we've listed all Elden Ring stone coffin locations, along with a list of all 10 new Remembrances bosses, where to find them and all possible Remembrance rewards. We'll walk you through the details of duplicating Remembrances in Shadow Of The Erdtree in the guide below.

]]>After years of anticipation, Elden Ring’s first - and only - expansion Shadow of the Erdtree is finally out as of today. While there are plenty of intriguing secrets hiding in the new corner (it’s a big corner) of the Lands Between, Steam Deck players might stumble upon a not-so-welcome new discovery too, courtesy of a bug that can make your game unresponsive.
]]>Want to know how to beat the Blackgaol Knight in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Although a tricky first mini-boss in Elden Ring, you'll be glad to know that there are Blackgaol Knight weaknesses to manipulate.

]]>Wondering how to use a Shadow Realm Blessing in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree? The new Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC not only introduces an entire new map of over 80 bosses and new regions to explore, but it also brings with it a new levelling-up system. Shadow Realm Blessings are split into two mechanics: Scadutree Fragments and Revered Spirit Ashes.
The point of this new system is to ensure a fair progression from the start of the Elden Ring DLC through til the end. So, even if you bring a level 200 character into the DLC from the base game, you're still going to have a tough time with enemies if you don't utilise these blessings to upgrade your Tarnished.
Below we'll explain both types of Shadow Realm Blessings in Elden Ring, where to get them and how it will affect your game.
]]>What does it mean when you see "Somewhere, a great rune has broken" in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? If you've played Elden Ring (or any of From Software's games), you'll know that mystery and opaqueness are very common. But few moments are more baffling and unexpected as when you progress a certain point through the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC, and see the words "Somewhere, a great rune has broken" appear on-screen.
If you've just had this happen to you and you're wondering what the message means, you'll find the answer below. In this guide, we'll walk you through how to prompt the "a great rune has broken" message, what it means, and what to do once you see it.
]]>Want to know how to enable ultrawide support in Elden Ring? The mahoosive RPG certainly sends mixed messages about its affinity for ultrawide monitor resolutions: they’re listed and selectable in the game options, but upon loading into the Lands Between, you’re quickly met with black bars that keep the usual screen space to standard widescreen proportions. The good news is that there’s a fix for this, unlocking Elden Ring’s true ultrawide capabilities – but the bad news is that it comes at the cost of the game's online features.
]]>What is the best order to tackle all the main bosses in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? It's a huge part of the lifeblood of the Elden Ring experience to hunt down and defeat the many bosses tucked away in the darkest and dingiest corners of the world. So it should come as no surprise that the new Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC adds 83 new boss encounters for you to bounce between, but as was the case with the base game, with so many bosses it's hard to know which ones to defeat first.
Read on for our recommended Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree main boss order, which will explain exactly which order you need to defeat the required bosses to finish the game. But since only a handful of bosses in the DLC are actually mandatory, we've also laid out recommended boss order lists for all the Remembrance bosses, and even one for all 83 bosses in Shadow Of The Erdtree.
]]>Want to know how to unlock the framerate in Elden Ring? It’s doable, but be careful what you wish for, traveller. This method will indeed remove the 60fps cap, allowing higher-end PCs to run FromSoftware’s RPG - as well as the Shadow Of The Erdtree expansion - with the brakes off. However, it will also disable Easy Anti-Cheat, effectively blocking you out of the game's online multiplayer features.
If you’re purely a solo Tarnished, or just want to uncap Elden Ring’s framerate that badly, read on – but make the changes at your own risk.
]]>Update: Whelp, spoke too soon. Apparently some Steam Deck players are seeing an "Innapropriate activity detected" message upon launching Elden Ring, blocking them from playing online. I haven't had this myself, and some have reported the issue fixing itself after they installed the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but hopefully there's a proper patch in the works.
Elden Ring on the Steam Deck has long enjoyed a smoothness that desktop play has lacked. Not so much in simple framerate terms – the handheld spends far more time around the 30fps mark than it does bumping into Elden Ring’s 60fps cap – but thanks to a Proton compatibility update back in 2022, it’s drastically less prone to the flow-breaking stutter that still plagues the RPG in 2024. That now goes for Shadow Of The Erdtree as well, judging from my portable time in the new expansion.
]]>Should you suggest Thiollier or Hornsent in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? As you progress through Shadow Of The Erdtree and break Miquella's charm, you'll find that the various NPCs in the Land of Shadow will offer a range of quests.
During the Needle Knight Leda questline, she will ask you to suggest Thiollier or Hornsent for a 'culling'. Leda will doubt their devotion to Kindly Miquella and ask you which of the two should be executed.
If you're worried about making the wrong choice and want to see the outcomes for all options, we have a handy walkthrough below.
]]>Looking for the Dragon Hunter's Great Katana in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Great Katanas are a new weapon type in Elden Ring's new expansion Shadow Of The Erdtree, and they're perfect for any Tarnished who wants a Katana with a bit more oomph. The Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana is one of these new blades that's accessible at the start of Shadow of the Erdtree, and as its name might suggest, its anti-dragon effect makes it the perfect weapon to hunt a winged reptile or three. In order to obtain this razor-sharp sword, you'll need to take a deep dive into the Dragon's Pit, a brief dungeon full of some annoying enemies.
If you're struggling to find the Dragon's Pit or defeat the enemies within, read on. In this guide we'll outline everything you need to do to unlock the Dragon-Hunter's Great Katana in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree.
]]>Looking for every new weapon in the Elden Ring DLC? And let me tell you: there are some real humdingers awaiting you in the Land Of Shadow.
Shadow Of The Erdtree, as you probably know, added eight entirely new weapon categories to Elden Ring, each containing multiple standard and unique weapons. If you're itching to find the perfect new weapon for your first DLC playthrough, we're here to help you out. In this guide we've listed all 103 weapons in Shadow Of The Erdtree and how to get them as early as possible in your Elden Ring DLC journey.
]]>Looking to complete Moore's questline in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree? Moore is one of many new NPCs to appear in Shadow Of The Erdtree and has a somewhat sad story depending on the outcome of the 'put it behind you' or 'remain sad forever' choice you make.

He is a curious fellow who scavenges supplies for Leda and her followers. Crucially, his questline is heavily tied with the Forager Brood Cookbooks.
