Rainbow Six Siege's creative director Alexander Karpazis doesn't believe the elderly shooter needs a change of game engine or for that matter, a sequel. He feels that Siege can "last forever", adding that "I'm not going to name names, but you see games go through sequels and just completely drop the ball."
]]>It's time for another edition of Ask RPS, where we answer reader questions put forward by RPS supporters. Today's question is a nice, warm, fuzzy one, as it's all about the good times we've had playing games in co-op with friends and family.
It comes courtesy of Aerothorn, who asks: What is your favorite co-op gaming memory? (along with the additional clarification that these memories don't need to be confined to designed-for-co-op games, but could also stem from playing a single-player game with a friend. "I used to play Descent with me piloting and my friend gunning!" they said).
So which games make us think of happy times with pals and good company? Come and find out below.
]]>It's weird to remember that Rainbow Six Siege was initially a bit of a flop. But rather than shrug and instantly release a sequel, for once Ubisoft kept working on the multiplayer tactical FPS with updates and overhauls, and today it boasts PC player numbers four times higher than launch. Over the weekend, Ubisoft laid out their plans for Year 7 of content updates, including brand new maps for the first time in years.
]]>Ubisoft today announced a surprising upcoming addition to Game Pass: Rainbow Six Extraction will be available on Microsoft's subscription service right from the start when it launches later this month. The monster-mashing spin-off from R6 Siege isn't one of their full-price games, coming at a slightly cheaper £34, but still, damn, that's a good get. And exactly the sort of game I likely wouldn't buy new but would try on Game Pass.
]]>Ubisoft's tactical FPS Rainbow Six Siege ushered in Year 6 Season 4 today. Named High Calibre, it introduces new defensive operator Thorn, who's special gadget is a sticky grenade that explodes into razors when it detects an enemy. Ouch. The other big change with this season is a rework of the Outback map, which cleans up a lot of junk to improve sightlines, and help attackers strategise.
]]>I've returned from my trip to the Lake District, with aching calves and a desire to talk about online shooters with Imogen. On this week's episode of the Ultimate Audio Bang, we don't chat sore muscles, instead, we focus on various Halloween events in games like Apex Legends and Rainbow Six: Siege, our thoughts on the Battlefield 2042 beta, Destiny 2 vaulting yet more stuff, and Call Of Duty: Vanguard finally introducing anti-cheat.
]]>According to video games, Halloween officially starts today. Look, I don't make the rules! Tonight marks the start of Halloween events in Overwatch, Apex Legends, and Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft's tactical first-person shooter is bringing back Doktor's Curse, its 5v5 hide-and-seek mode where a team of monsters have to survive in a spookily decked-out Theme Park while exterminators hunt them down. This year, new operators are joining the fray too.
]]>At the end of the month, Rainbow Six Siege is set to kick off its next season, Operation Crystal Guard, and yesterday Ubisoft revealed the new operator who'll be arriving alongside it. Her name is Osa, and she has a cool see through shield she can use to block out windows. Also, she has a cute little robot toy in her teaser trailer which seems to be involved with her kit, though it's unclear exactly how. Maybe it's just her friend. That would be nice.
]]>The best place to advertise an upcoming game is inside one of your current games, it seems. That’s what Ubisoft are doing with the latest Rainbow Six: Siege event, called “Containment”. The event is inspired by the upcoming Rainbow Six: Extraction, and gleefully messes with Siege’s set-up. It’s a PVP challenge where a team of Rainbow Six operators are pitted against a group of infected alien doppelgangers protecting their nests.
]]>FPS games are a classic PC gaming staple, and whether you've been playing them since the 90s or started your journey more recently with the boom in battle royales, there are plenty to choose from when it comes to the all-time greats. To help you narrow down what to play next, we've created this list of the best FPS games to play right now, from single-player epics to team-based shooters you can play with mates. Heck, some don't even necessarily have guns in them at all, and you may find the odd boomerang or bow in here too.
]]>During E3, we saw a bunch of new gameplay for Ubisoft's upcoming stealthy alien shoot 'em up, Rainbow Six Extraction (formerly known as Quarantine). It's a spin-off from the tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege, and I think it looks good - PvE offshoots of PvP games are my jam. But while the new footage showed how a typical mission would go in Extraction, it left me with a lot more questions. So, I reached out to Ubisoft to ask game director Patrick Méthé for a little more detail on how things will work.
To be honest, my main goal was to find out if Caveria would be able to tackle aliens to the ground and interrogate them, but it sounds like they probably won't be doing that (which is a missed opportunity, if you ask me - one of her abilities in Siege is that she can question downed enemies to reveal player locations).
]]>After spending some time under wraps, Rainbow Six Extraction recently emerged with the expected announcement that it would be ditching its former name "Quarantine". What it isn't letting go of, Ubisoft say, are all of the oh so many operators in Rainbow Six Siege. With so many to choose from, Ubisoft aren't designing new operators for their Left 4 Dead-like co-op shooter. Instead, they're going to be bringing some player favorite operators to Extraction, along with some who "haven’t received the amount of love we think they deserve".
]]>Ubisoft today detailed their plans for cross-platform multiplayer and shared progression in Rainbow Six Siege, and the news for PC players is probably not surprising. While we will get to share progression with all other platforms, we won't be able to play together with people on console. Though, uh, we will get to play with those on Stadia and Luna? Sure, okay.
]]>Ubisoft today announced a release date of September 16th Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction, the cooperative monster-mashing FPS formerly known as Rainbow Six Quarantine. It will pit familiar R6 Siege operators against a parasitic alien goop that's taking over cities - and people. Check out the first gameplay trailer below.
]]>Ubisoft have taken a leaf out of Epic's book, as they're offering coupons worth $10 / £10 which can be used on all carts worth $15 / £14 and up. To get the discount, just get your cart to the minimum level (with either a single game or multiple games) and then use the code FORWARD at the checkout.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege's next season is queueing up for June and Ubisoft have now handed out all the details on Year 6 Season 2. The next season, North Star, is bringing new healing defender Thunderbird and is reworking the Favela map so defenders actually have a fighting chance. North Star kicks off on June 14th but you can prep for the changes right now with Ubisoft's list of patch notes.
]]>With Rainbow Six Siege's annual premiere tournament almost upon us - and indeed, the first offline Siege esports event since the start of the pandemic - Ubisoft have discounted games across the Rainbow Six franchise over at the Ubisoft Store by up to 75%.
]]>Amazon haven't had the best of luck breaking into the world of online multiplayer games so far, what with Crucible being a bit of a disaster. But now they've opened a new studio Montreal, and hired a bunch of ex-Rainbow Six Siege developers to lead it, including the former creative director. Which, dare I say, sounds promising. They'll be working on "original AAA games", with their first project being a new online multiplayer game.
]]>Crimson Heist, the first new season of Rainbow Six Siege's sixth year, has landed. It brings with it lots of goodies too, including the fashionable new operator Flores and a rework to the Border map. It actually seems like a pretty good time to drop back into the tactical FPS if, like me, you haven't played it in a while. Ubisoft have lowered the prices of a bunch of operators, and some new features like a match replay function have been added too.
]]>As barriers between systems finally begin to break down, we're starting to see games let us share saves and progress across different devices and sometimes even play with pals on other systems. With Rainbow 6 Siege, Ubisoft now say they're working on cross-platform progression buuut they're cautious about letting PC peeps actually play against consoleers in cross-platform multiplayer. It'd be a shame if they didn't, but I would kinda get it.
]]>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is heading into its sixth year, and over the weekend, Ubisoft dropped a load of details of what's arriving in the tactical FPS over the coming weeks. The new season, Crimson Heist, will kick off the Year Six festivities by adding a new explosive gadget, reworks to the Border map, and new operator Flores, who has some rather nice red glasses. He weirdly reminds me a bit of Dr Eggman, mostly because they're both robotics dudes with round coloured specs.
]]>The year 2021 is fast approaching, but rather than confront the horrors of the unknown just yet, Rainbow Six Siege is taking a step back into its past. Ubisoft have summoned up R6 Siege: Classic, if you will. The Legacy Arcade is a version of Siege from its early days that you can play from now until January 5th.
]]>Right about now I hear "neon" and I think "cyberpunk" but hold up, Neon Dawn is the next season of Rainbow Six Siege and it launches tomorrow. Ubisoft have detailed exactly when you can expect them to deploy the dawn and how big the update will be. You'll be up against the new defender Aruni before long.
]]>Yesterday, Rainbow Six Siege operator Tachanka threw his turret out the window, picked up an LMG and started running around blowing holes in walls and doors, all while yelling with a completely different voice. The Russian defender hasn't gone mad mind you, he's just had a major rework and come out the other side a new man - literally, because as well as new weapons and abilities, he's got a new voice actor, too.
]]>Rainbow Six: Siege is gearing up for its next season Neon Dawn and calling up a new operator for defense. Ubisoft have shown off Aruni and her tricky shock gates that will throw a wrench in attacker's plans while letting fellow defenders pass through. You can catch an overview of her abilities and a bit about the rework for the Skyscraper map in a new video.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege's Halloween event kicks off today, trapping you in a nightmare where everyone has turned into a respawning puppet. I do not like it one bit. The event is called Sugar Fright, and it plonks players straight into Frost's fever dream where everything is made of sweets and all your friends look like horrible Muppet Show rejects.
]]>Huh! Out of nowhere, a massive, unannounced update just skulked its way into Rainbow Six: Siege. Fittingly, it's the one wot's adding Splinter Cell sneaky-boy Sam Fisher to the Clanceyverse team shooter. Operation Shadow Legacy is now live seemingly ahead of its own announcement, adding a new operator, map and scope reworks, and a whole host of smaller fixes. Just give us a heads up next time, eh?
]]>It's exciting enough when Rainbow Six Siege gets a new operator, let alone one that's a well-loved sneaky boy from Splinter Cell. Ubisoft revealed last week that Sam Fisher would be making an appearance in the tactical team-based shoot 'em up, and last night they showed the gadgets and abilities he'll be bringing with him to the game's next update, Operation Shadow Legacy.
He's not the only exciting thing on the way, though, because there are a bunch of reworks and changes coming to improve how you play Siege across the board.
]]>Three green eyes lurk in the shadows of Rainbow Six Siege, which means it's time for Tom Clancy stealth buff Sam Fisher to join the wargames. It might be five years since he last headlined his own game, but the Splinter Cell star will join Team Rainbow in Operation: Shadow Legacy. Expect more intel on the ageing sneaker's career change alongside the update's full reveal this Sunday.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege is getting in on some 80s sci-fi action with its new limited time event, M.U.T.E. Protocol, kicking off today. Ubisoft's tactical FPS has cyberpunked-up one of its Secure Area game mode maps, dropping players in as all manner of funky neon robots to attack or defend a Comm Tower. It's not just cosmetic, though, as players will be able to use special futuristic powers to warp themselves through their tech, too.
]]>Two new Operators arrived in Rainbow Six Siege today, the wall-busting attacker Ace and enemy-slowing defender Melusi. The latest update, Operation Steel Wave is go go go and brings a rework of the House map too. One of the new Operators uses water gadget to punch holes in walls, and the other has machines that'll shout at your enemies. Come meet them.
]]>Ubisoft are fond of those Rainbow Six Siege free weekends, aren't they? Another one has rolled around this month, letting players give the team-based tactical shooter a go for free from tomorrow until June 15th, and enticing you in with tantalising discounts should you find yourself wanting to own it. As usual, it's the full game you'll be getting access to for free, so you can try out all the maps and all the modes, and your progress will carry over should you decide to go in for purchase.
]]>Area F2 may as well be called Area 51 now that Ubisoft have sued Apple, Google, and the developers of the mobile game that looked suspiciously similar to Mr. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. Area F2's developer Ejoy have now posted a statement confirming the game's closure and it's been delisted from both the Google Play Store and App Store.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege's year 5 plans are marching along. Season 2 for the year is officially titled Operation Steel Wave and as promised it's bringing two new operators and a rework for the House map. Ubisoft gave a look at Ace the medic and Melusi the tracker and their new gadgets during a reveal livestream today. Both are joining the roster with Steel Wave on the test servers tomorrow.
]]>Outside of the occasional free weekend, you can't play Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege for free - never mind trying to get it running on your phone. Unfortunately for Ubisoft, it seems that particular space has been filled by an unnervingly similar tactical FPS. This week, the French publishers filed a lawsuit against Google and Apple, demanding Area F2 - an alleged clone of Rainbow Six Siege - be removed from their respective mobile shelves.
]]>A new event started in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege yesterday, introducing The Stolen Goods, a limited time game mode where players have to attack or defend a 1920s British mobster hideout full of safes. There are a few twists to this new mode, but the important one to know right now is that the floors are completely breakable, allowing players to shoot out the floorboards beneath the safes to get them to drop to different levels. A good strategy, right? Well, yeah, as long as you don't stand directly beneath the dense cubes of metal hurtling towards you.
If you've ever watched an episode of Looney Tunes, you can probably imagine what you're about to see.
]]>For the next two weeks, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege is swapping out hostages and bombs for safeboxes full of… well it doesn't actually say what they're full of. I imagine it's money, or gold, or something that old-timey English gangsters like, because it's all part of the Grand Larceny event, inspired by 1920s British mobs.
Ubisoft have reimagined the old Hereford map to create a mobster hideout for a brand new game mode, The Stolen Goods. In it, players will need to defend their fortunes against attackers who know exactly where to look to nab that loot.
]]>There's something very unnerving about anthropomorphic food. Which is why I'm concerned that Pizza Mozzie will now haunt my dreams forever. Rainbow Six Siege has a brand new Operator set available through Twitch Prime you see - I had to look at it, so now you do too.
"The Cheesie One has arrived!" Ubisoft tweeted. As if the skin itself wasn't terrifying enough, they're acting like he's some sort of deity.
]]>If you've played more standard rounds of Rainbow Six Siege since self-isolating than your blood pressure can bear, there's a new playlist on the block to change things up. Ubisoft have introduced Siege's first Arcade mode and it's got the feel of goofing about with cheats for 007 on the Nintendo 64 an eon ago. Golden Gun's one shot kill mode will be available this weekend only in Siege's new Arcade playlist.
]]>Over the last week or so, game developers and publishers around the world have been announcing their action plans amidst the Covid-19 outbreak. Bungie have offered advice to other companies, Ubisoft said Rainbow Six Siege might miss a few patches, and many others have sent their employees home, dev kits in hand, to make sure production plods along, all the while doing their part to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.
These are just a few of the many things big developers are doing - one studio even sent their home-working employees care packages, complete with pastries and roll of toilet paper.
]]>Two new doorkickers arrive in Rainbow Six Siege today with the start of Year 5 and Operation Void Edge. Iana can deploy a remote-controlled holographic duplicate of herself, while Oryx eschews fancy technology to just run around real fast to bowling over opponents and bashing through walls with his burly body. The update also brings a reworked version of the map Oregon, balance changes, and bug fixes. See some of all this in the trailer below.
]]>This weekend you can breach walls without also blowing a hole in your wallet. Ubisoft's multiplayer shooter Rainbow Six Siege is having a free-to-play weekend where you'll be able to take a spin on all its maps and modes. Pre-loading has already started, so you can queue up a download right now if you're looking to hop in on the free weekend starting Thursday.
]]>The Rainbow Six Siege Invitational took place over the weekend, teasing loads of new content and changes coming up in the next two years. Year 5 will see six new operators make their way to the game, as well as reworks to four old maps, while Year 6 is bringing reworks across the board for maps and gameplay alike. We're not completely in the dark with what these changes are going to consist of though, because during the Invitational stream they gave us a first look at new and improved Tachanka.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege is all about mind games. Baiting out attackers, creating false lines of attack, making sure the bad guys step into your crosshairs before you wander into theirs. Operation Void Edge's two new Operators hit the public test server tomorrow, and approach deceptive play with two radically different visions. One of them will trick you into seeing ghosts, and the other will have you doubting the structural integrity of every last wall.
]]>It's a romantic tale as old as time. He's on the run, smashing through walls with his beefcake physique. She's in space and might be a ghost. Can I make it any more obvious? Rainbow Six Siege is preparing to take off with its first Season of the new year. Making its teaser debut today, Operation Void's Edge is taking Ubisoft's shooter high into orbit, before smashing it into tiny stone pieces.
]]>Ubisoft are taking the owners of a website offering DDoS (Dedicated Denial of Service) attacks against Rainbow Six: Siege to court.. The lawsuit, filed in California last week, accused the owners of SNG.ONE and affiliated sites of offering server-killing services at a premium. Ubisoft are seeking to have the sites concerned shut down for good, and for the owners to pay up for damages and court fees.
]]>Ahead of Rainbow Six Siege's tournament next month, the Six Invitational 2020, Ubisoft are sending players on a month long in-game event. The Road To SI 2020 playlist will last for five weekends with a matching Battle Pass and unlockable rewards on a brand new map.
]]>Today is the day for this Shifting Tides update to Mr. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that I keep hearing so much about. There's a returning map, two new operators, and the addition of limb penetration. Here are the highlights from the new update so you can start thinking about new strats before you encounter these new operators in the wild.
]]>Once stalwart agents of counterterrorism, two of Rainbow Six Siege's elite operators have decided to ditch their day jobs for a week on the other side. From today through Monday the 25th, Hibana and Vigil are joining up with the crew of Netflix's Money Heist for some crimson crime capers in Siege's first crossover outside of loaning characters to other Ubisoft games. There's no need to go nicking pennies to get in on the event, either. From Thursday through Monday the 25th, Rainbow Six Siege will be free to pick up and play, with a hefty discount for killers who want to keep it for good.
]]>If Rainbow Six Siege's next Season leaked last week, then Ubisoft tipped the whole bucket right over last night. Shifting Tides was officially announced during the Pro League Finals in Tokyo, bringing two Operators into the special forces deathmatch. Hit the Siege test server later today to try next season's new gunslingers, devastating new rifle, physics-breaking toys and a reworked Theme Park.
]]>Is it on the nose to call this a leak? Earlier today, Ubisoft posted a brief clip of Rainbow Six Siege's next season, Shifting Tides. Despite gentle, rolling waves that'd keep resident sea-dweller Alice O satisfied, I don't think Ubi are ditching high-stress firefights for a rollicking seaside adventure. We've seen a brief glimpse of Shifting Tide's new gadgets, and these toys ain't messing around.
]]>Ubisoft's lawyers have loaded their lawguns and stacked up to breach and clear the coffers of a team who make and sell cheats for Rainbow 6 Siege. They believe a Dutch teenager is a key figure in MizuSoft, whose cheat includes the usual wallhack and recoil-cancelling and such, and his mother is helping process its subscription payments. Ubisoft say they spend a whole lot of time and money trying to stamp out cheats, so they've filed suit to make them knock it off and pay a big stack of cash in damages. Curiously, the main cheatmaker seems to be someone who talked about his creation on the BBC.
]]>Halloween descends upon Rainbow Six Siege today with the launch of Doktor's Curse, a hide 'n' seek mode where monsterhunters armed with honking great hammers are out to squash ghoulies who just want to live. It's not their fault they're alive, you awful hunters. Take it up with the Doktor. You can meet the fiend in the event trailer below.
]]>Esports has experienced staggering growth over the past few years, cementing itself as a billion-dollar industry as of 2019. But this rapid increase in popularity and earnings has left some players behind. The Cyberathlete Championship Series (CCS) is attempting to address the imbalance with its recently announced Women’s League for Rainbow Six Siege.
Women have been a part of R6 esports for some time, with Laurie "Lyloun" Lagier coaching Team Vitality since 2017, but it wasn’t until the following year that Lauren “Goddess” Williams became the first woman to compete in the Pro League. Alongside Team Sinister’s "Loona", and former coach of PENTA Sports Jess Bolden, these women have become role models, but the difficulties they’ve faced on their journey continue to prevent others from stepping up.
]]>The booted-up lady doing a high-kick with a grappling gun in the picture above is one of the two latest Operators added to Rainbow Six Siege this week. Ubisoft have rolled out its next major expansion, Operation Ember Rise - a hefty update which combines a reworked Kanal map with some nice new chaos-engendering gadgets and playable adrenaline junkies.
]]>URGENT: Disparaging words have been said about the game you like by people who like the other game you don't like.
]]>Google held another one of their Stadia Connect conferences today, and this one was meant to be all about what games you'll be playing in the "scary" cloud come November. Sure enough, there were new Stadia games aplenty announced this evening, with the biggest addition being Cyberpunk 2077.
To help keep track of them all, here's a list of every Google Stadia game confirmed so far, as well as which games are coming at launch, which ones will be arriving a little bit later, and which games you'll only be able to play by subscribing to one of the special Stadia publisher subscriptions.
]]>After almost four years of being a game-shaped digital object, Rainbow Six Siege will soon qualify for 'actual certified video game' status when its next update adds a new character with a grappling hook. This gadget, a featured mandated by the video game certification board, will let Amaru whoosh up buildings and through windows. Proper video game stuff. She'll be joined in Operation Ember Rise by Goyo, whose magic trick is to strap honking great petrol bombs to his deployable shields so they go up in a burst of flames. Come watch some grappling in this here new video.
]]>I may not be the most regular player of Rainbow Six Siege, but Ubisoft's twitchy team shooter always brings me back with its special events. Today's Showdown event is an old western three-on-three scenario set in an all new map, Fort Truth. Pump shotguns and magnum revolvers only, befitting the reskinned and old-timey operators. While not quite as ambitious as their alien mutant invasion event (which has spun off into its own game), I'm expecting a fun, messy close-quarters shootfight. If your trigger finger is itchy, there's a trailer below waiting for high noon.
]]>Hello friendly people! Welcome to the always-lovely, always-cheerful soft-play-of-fun-and-hyphens that is Steam Charts!
Today we're going to laugh together, learn together, and maybe, just maybe, if we're lucky, laugh and learn a little. Please, pull up a trouser, take a seat (take as many seats as you need - we have too many seats), and prepare to enjoy, laugh, and maybe even learn.
]]>I'm declaring it: this is the Worst Week Ever for Steam Charts. And let's face it - this is entirely your fault. If you were a better person, you'd buy better games. But instead you buy the same eight bloody games every bloody week, and then buy a game that isn't even out for over a year. A YEAR! You are awful, and you do not deserve me. This is your punishment.
]]>Mutant alien beasties will return to trouble the Rainbow 6 gang in new three-player cooperative FPS Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Quarantine, Ubisoft announced today. The two tangled in R6 Siege's Outbreak event mode in 2018 and now "a totally new breed of mutated alien parasite" is back for a full-on rumble. Ubisoft are pretty vague about this for now, sitting firmly in the "teaser" stage of their marketing plan. That said, the obvious assumption about Quarantine is that it's an an expansion of ideas in Outbreak and Ubisoft don't do anything to head off such assumptions. But here, enjoy a vague trailer.
]]>Good hello. Please, grab hold and sit, for this is some Steam Charts.
]]>Hello person. This is the Steam Charts, the weekly round-up of the top-grossing PC games on the online store Steam. We write it cynically to collect your clicks, and then we take those clicks and we use them to poke innocent orphans in their stupid orphan eyes.
]]>After a couple months of test-server experimentation, Ubisoft are rolling out their new team-killer punishment to Rainbow Six Siege proper. While the studio confirm that today's iteration of "Reverse Friendly Fire" (RFF) is still to be refined and has a couple bugs still to be hammered out, it's ready enough for the big leagues. In short, if you shoot a teammate, they can choose whether or not to replace your bullets with karmic ones that bounce off friends and back into their owner's careless (or malicious) face for the rest of the match. A poetic punishment if there ever was one.
]]>Of course the Australian has his own spiders. New playable character Mozzie arrived into Rainbow Six Siege last month packing an Aussie accent and three “Pest” robots: little multi-limbed minibeasties capable of automatically leaping onto, and taking control of, the attacking team’s reconnaissance drones. Plop them down in doorways and vent exits, and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to blunt the opposing team’s vital intelligence gathering operations at the start of a round, as well as providing your side with a suite of new angles on the battle.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege's latest update brings the long-awaited Lion rework, as well as some other balance changes that drastically shake up the meta for the game. So before then it's probably best to learn what each of the other operators does when the update hits. They all have unique abilities, as well as their own gadgets and weapons.
For those that are jumping back into Rainbow Six Siege, all the changes can make it somewhat intimidating. To that end, hit our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub, which has been lovingly prepared with a bunch of general tips of how to get back into the swing of things.
]]>Lion has gotten a major rework in the latest Rainbow Six Siege update, in that his EE-ONE-D drone is now completely different. Its aim is still to track enemies for all attackers, but there are changes to how it all works that you should probably be aware of.
While his ability is pretty good in the right circumstances, Lion also has a rather decent selection of weapons to choose from. He can be a good operator for newer players who can check out our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub for more information as to how to effectively move around the battlefield and get the jump on enemies hiding from the huge noise emitting drone coming from outside.
]]>As one of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege's more stealthy operatives, Vigil aims to have as little footage of himself on cameras as is physically possible. He does this with a form of camouflage that makes him invisible to cameras and drones. A recent update has also given him immunity to a rather pesky operator.
Vigil's cloaking device may be great for not being seen by cameras and drones, but he also packs some good primary weapons. With good use of movement and aiming, detailed in our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub, he can be a force to be reckoned with.
]]>Nomad introduces a tactic that's not widely used into Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege - using proximity grenades to flush out enemies, either by running out of range or knocking them back. A recent update has tinkered with her loadout and AirJab launcher slightly, so we're updating our guide accordingly.
Nomad has an obvious combination of attacks that she can use just on her own, but she's best played alongside certain other operators that specialise in breaching through walls. You can get some more general tips and tricks at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub to help even further master your skill with this operator.
]]>Another update has happened that balances Kaid's weapons in Rainbow Six Siege. Representing the north African nation of Morocco, Kaid is the defensive operative introduced during the final DLC of Year 3, Season 4. With an interesting assortment of weapons, as well as a couple of electrified claws, he is a force to be reckoned with. Our guide will detail how best to use it, as well as explain some of his counters.
With effective use of our Rainbow Six Siege guide, you can get the most out of using Kaid - the second operator that can augment metal items with a rather shocking surprise.
]]>Maestro is one of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege's newer operatives and his ability makes him a huge pain to deal with. Not only are his cameras almost impossible to take out, they can pester you with little lasers. A recent update makes EMP effects a lot more useful against him, so we'll be going over those in a bit.
To use Maestro well, you need to ensure that you're using his ability well and are well hidden. Our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub can take you a fair bit with the shooting bit, but his camera is one of those abilities that cannot be used incorrectly, or you'll lose your advantage.
]]>Echo is the only defender, outside of some shenanigans from Mozzie, that has a defensive drone. His one is special in that it can disorientate enemies, as well as leap onto ceilings. A recent update has given him something to think about, which we will detail in this new version of the guide.
As an operator that controls a drone for the defensive team, Echo is one of the more advanced difficulty operators to get used to. He does have some good guns that even newer players can take advantage of, especially with the tactics in our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub, but the drone needs to be looked after in order to use Echo effectively.
]]>There's making an entrance in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, and then there's making a particularly flashy entrance. Ying's candela is one of the more interesting abilities, mostly because of the many ways it can get into a room full of enemies. This guide will detail all those ways it can be used, as well as the weapons and gadgets to support her assault.
Ying is yet another DLC operators introduced later in Rainbow Six Siege's lifespan, but her special flash bangs are relatively similar to Fuze's cluster bombs in how they work. They also have added benefits that are worth considering. As one of the easier DLC characters to use, newer players can look at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub for more general tips and tricks for when they're not dazzling the enemy with bright lights.
]]>Capitão's crossbow is getting a major change in Rainbow Six: Siege's latest update. As such, the developers feel that this is going back towards his original intention of an "area denial operator".
He is somewhat simple to use once you have the gist of his abilities, and you can get some more general tips and tricks at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub to help even further master your skill with this operator.
]]>A recent update to IQ has increased her usefulness against a rather troublesome defender in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. Attacker operatives like IQ that can detect enemy locations based on electronics usage can be vital to a team doing well.
This GSG 9 operator has more primary weapons than her counterpart Blitz, but perhaps is one of the easier of the basic operators to understand, IQ specialises in detecting electronics used by enemy forces. For those that wish to use her, also consider looking at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub if you want more general tips and tricks to get the most out of each round.
]]>A lot of attacker operators in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege like to use explosives to get the job done, but GSG 9 operator Blitz prefers to blind his opponents. He's another defensive operator, similar to Montagne, meaning that he has a very limited arsenal to play with. A recent nerf has altered his shield ability slightly, so we've updated our guide accordingly.
The first thing to know about Blitz is that his shield has more vulnerabilities than Montagne's extendable shield. He can be one of the more difficult to use thanks to a lack of guns at his disposal. If this doesn't intimidate you and you're wondering if there are more general tips to make the best use of Blitz, have a look at our Rainbow Six Siege guide hub.
]]>While normally a hellish day filled with corporations toying with hearts, April Fools has some perks, like this week's Rainbow Is Magic event in Rainbow Six Siege. Ubisoft have given the Plane map in the gritty tactical squad-shooter a Lisa Frank makeover. Hot pink unicorn and butterfly-themed operators and a handful of hard plastic toy soldiers fight for control of the VIP (Very Important Plushie), as you do. This event runs for a whole week, up until April 8th, and there's a collection of hot pink-with-sparkles gear to permanently earn. Below, a trailer for this gleeful nonsense.
]]>Ubisoft are changing how team-killing affects players in Rainbow Six Siege, with a new "reverse friendly fire" system rolling out on the test servers soon, described in this dev-blog post. If you manage to murder one of your friends in the twitchy tactical shooter (easy to do accidentally), the player you whacked will get a kill-cam showing them exactly what happened. At this point, it would be prudent to apologise, as your victim will get to decide whether to let you off the hook, or whether you'll spend the rest of the match with cursed bullets that bounce off buddies and back into your own face.
]]>Oh hello! John is away in San Francisco gobbling up gum left on the underside of chairs at the Game Developers Conference, so I'm filling in for our regular rundown of last week's top-selling games on Steam. As is customary for weeks where I need to take over, the charts are full of the surprises he grumbles they never have. What can I say, John - video games must make more of an effort for me. And for goodness' sake, leave that gum. I don't care if Sid Meier himself stuck it there.
]]>Mozzie's drone stealing pests have been hassling of any attacking team in Rainbow Six Siege for the past few weeks now and more has been unearthed about the new defender in Year 4 Season 1. Some may want to know just how to beat him, so this guide will go over everything there is to know about this handlebar moustached operator.
]]>Gridlock's been out for a few weeks now and players have been able to get lots of data on how good she is. This operator is the bane of any roaming defenders, thanks to her little presents - her Trax Stingers. Gridlock does have more to offer however for players new to the game, and those who have been veterans for the entire four years of updates to this strategic shooter.
]]>Hahaha, I can't believe you think the game you like is good! The game you like ISN'T good! Your liking the game you like makes you look just SO silly. Find out which games everyone else likes, and then start liking those games instead, with our handy Steam Charts guide.
]]>Quite why anyone would do anything in the outback but stay in the shade and drink beer is beyond me, but it's today's new battlefield in Ubisoft squad shooter Rainbow Six Siege. Burnt Horizon adds a new map set out in a dusty desert service station, plus two role-reversing Australian gadgeteers added to the roster of playable operators. Attacker Gridlock can throw self-deploying patches of spikes, sealing off routes even when playing aggressively, while new defender Mozzie can control the other team's scout drones with his Pest Launcher, and use them against their owners. See them in action in the launch trailer below.
]]>Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege's fourth year has been officially announced, with the first part dropping in the next month or so. We'll be getting our first glance at the new operators soon, but we figured we'd add everything we know about the new year to our guide. For those new to our coverage, there's also some important things to know when first starting out, as well as specifics for playing as the attacking team or defending team, and more in-depth stuff on each operator and the specific maps being added as the game continues its long run.
]]>Roaming defenders have largely gone unpunished in Rainbow Six Siege, but all that's about to change. With the introduction of Gridlock in Year 4 Season 1, the attacking team can now leave a little present for any would-be roamers in the form of Trak Stingers. Gridlock does have more to offer however, so we'll be going over all the weapons, stats, and gear she has on her.
]]>Have you ever had a phone call from a private number when it's not a convenient moment? Chances are that you have and if it's during a game of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, the most likely culprit is Dokkaebi. Her logic bombs can give your position away when you really don't want them to, but they've recently been heavily nerfed. This guide will go over everything that she can do to make the defensive team's life that much harder, as well as the weapons and gadgets she has to use in a pinch.
]]>Mute is perhaps one of the more annoying operators to deal with in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege. His jammers can render drones useless if they get too close, as well as jam the signal to other devices, which now include the likes of Dokkaebi's pesky phone calls. This guide will take you through exactly what his skill can tamper with, as well as the weapons and gadgets he has on his person.
]]>Clash represents the first of her kind in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, as she's the only defender that uses a shield. This presents players with some interesting interactions, as well as a bit more variety in how a team defends their various objectives. However there is an art to using Clash's shield effectively and a recent buff has made her slightly more useful, so our guide will detail just how best to use it, recent changes, as well as go over the other tools she has for impeding the attackers' progress.
]]>Most breaching attackers in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege make a lot of noise, but Maverick takes a slightly more stealthy approach. His blowtorch can bore holes into just about anything, but its limited fuel capacity makes it tough to use right. The time it takes to swap between his breaching torch and weapons has increased in Y4S1, so this guide will go over how to use the blowtorch effectively, as well as the stats, weapons, and gadgets that Maverick has to offer.
]]>Much like Smoke, Lesion has the ability to cripple the enemy with poison. As one of the more interesting defensive DLC operators in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, he can be used to make enemies stop for a short time, leaving them vulnerable. A recent change has been made to Lesion's Gu Mines, so this guide will inform you of how best to use the ability, as well as the arsenal that Lesion has to offer.
]]>Ash is one of several operators in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege that can blow holes into walls. However the FBI attacker operator has some incredibly good weapons to choose from as well as a decent selection of gadgets to wield. Below are some tips and tricks in order to effectively use Ash when storming the defender's compound..
]]>It's the end of another long day at Fags & Mags & Rab(bid)s, a wee family-owned shop and video game company on the corner of a sleepy street in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil.
Michel Guillemot is down on his hands and knees, fishing under the pick 'n' mix display for loose sweets he then dusts on the lapel of his brown cotton shopcoat before popping them back into their correct box.
A yelp rises from the back room. Yves Guillemot rushes out, a dusty bottle of prosecco in his hand and a wide smile across his face.
"Brother!" Yves cries. "They did it! We're safe! We did it!"
Michel slips a gummy egg between his lips and waits for Yves to calm down.
"Vivendi! Finally! They said they would! They have!" he gasps while tearing at the foil on the bottle. Yves notices his brother's bemused look (and pretends not to notice he's eating the stock again) and pauses to catch his breath. "Vivendi finally sold their remaining Ubisoft shares. That's the very end of their takeover attempt. Our family business is safe."
Michel swallows and reaches for a pack of plastic picnic champagne flutes.
]]>Of course the original editions of the Steam Charts focused on those maps used by the early pioneers of steam-based exploration, so this week we take a historical look back at the origins of your favourite game series. For just one week, put aside your modern electricity-based computing, and come on a journey through time.
]]>What do you call a bunch of sixteen-year-olds skiving off school to play a tactical team-based shooter? G Siege-ees.
Wait, come back. I need to tell you about how the Rainbow Six Siege devs are invading Australia with Operation Burnt Horizon, the first event of Year Four. Early next month, you'll be running around a new map called Outback with two new aussie operators.
Ubisoft Montreal have also revealed how they're handling their next year of #content. As well as the expected eight new operators, we'll see three map redesigns, a newcomer queue to help ease in fresh players, and an anti-teamkilling system that makes would-be arseholes actually off themselves.
]]>Alice is on holiday, so this week it's me, Alice, filling in for Alice. We're deep in the trenches now, the game trenches, the February onslaught of releases. Metro is only just in our rear view mirror, and Brendan is almost a broken man. Anthem is in its bizarre week of early release for people who'll pay for EA's special version of Origins. Apelegs is taking the Battles Royales by storm. There is too much to do, so I might not remind people to send me what they're playing, just so I don't have to put it in this document, because I am busy playing some of the games that we have to play. I know, what a ridiculous thing to moan about, hey?
What are you playing this weekend? Here's what we're clicking on!
]]>Well that didn't take long. Not one day after we posted our Burnt Horizon roundup for Rainbow Six Siege, we got a teaser trailer showing off the new map - Outback. The new season is an Australia themed one, and the map looks to be a more open firefight compared to Villa and Fortress. This guide to Y4S1 will go over what we currently know about the new operators, the new map, and the big addition to combat cheating in the game.
]]>As much as people (rightfully) mocked the convoluted Anthem launch graphs, Ubisoft remain the king of overly complicated multiple editions of games. Fortunately, they're simplifying things a bit for Rainbow Six Siege today - the tactical team shooter now no longer has a 'starter' edition, with anyone owning that getting a free upgrade to the regular edition. The Regular edition has dropped in price, and the Ultimate edition now contains every character unlocked up to the end of year 3. It's on sale until February 25th, with a free weekend running from February 14th to 17th.
]]>G’day! Ubisoft have unveiled the new Rainbow Six Siege map they were teasing last week, and it’s Australia alright: kangaroos, didgeridoo music, and yet more kangaroos. Oh, and a massive shark, suspended from the ceiling, as you do. No koalas, though, which is a disappointment. Still, you can see it all for yourself in the trailer below.
]]>Rainbow Six Siege is about to enter its fourth year of DLC and seasonal balance changes. This is quite the feat, with the game retaining a healthy player base eager to get into the next map - Outback, and try out a couple of new operators. Operation Burnt Horizon is an Australia themed one, and if the hints from Ubisoft are anything to go by, these could be quite the interesting pair to enter Siege. Our guide to Y4S1 will tell you what we know about the new operators, the new map, and the big addition to combat cheating in the game.
