Horror games are usually a bit too scary for me to play alone. I actually barely manage to play them at all, though not for lack of trying. Whenever I load them up, I just can’t help but pause every five seconds for a breather. Multiplayer games are far more manageable, though, and often also turn stifled screams into contagious laughter as your friends terrorise each other.
If you’re a scaredy cat like me and would rather scream at the horrors of your unhinged mates than at unpredictable AIs and scripted jump scares, then you’re in the right spot. Here are five games in which your mates can play as the monster. Some are creepy, some are cute, and none of them will force you to run around alone. If you're looking to get monstrous yourself this Halloween, Liam's done a list all about games that make you the monster. No overlap, promise.
]]>If Halloween is best spent doing scary things with pals, Phasmophobia is one of the best games to play this Halloween. The cooperative game sends us to investigate haunted places, trying to capture evidence of ghosts without getting murdered by them. And now it's even more Halloween-y (well, technically Friday The 13th-y) thanks to a big new early access update, which has added a new map set in a haunted campground, new types of ghost, and new spooky weather. Great, just what I wanted in a game I'm already too scared to play.
]]>Thank goodness we're now well past the point of me apologising for still talking about a game from last Halloween and into the part of the year where I'll be unapologetically looking forward to this Halloween. Phasmophobia, the co-op ghost sleuthing simulation that I've yet to stop playing since last year, is getting a sizable update this month as spooky season creeps closer. There are even more new ghosts coming, redesigns for tons of your equipment, and "sprinting adjustments" which I believe must mean I'll be hoofing it out of houses faster than the current crawl.
]]>I picked up Phasmophobia again for the first time in a while this weekend, and man, I'm bad at it! I'm not up-to-speed on how to properly identify the current ghosties, and now there are already two more for me to run away from. On Friday, developers Kinetic Games added the Yokai and Hantu spectres, who both sound rather awkward to pin down - but hey, sometimes challenges are fun even if you know you're doomed to fail them. The devs have also hired a couple extra people to help out with production too.
]]>Would you look at that, it's Phasmo Friday again. That's right, it's the time of the pre-weekend where I'm trying to decide if I need to pack up my ghost gear to do a bit of spook simming before Monday. Signs point to: probably. Phasmophobia has teased that it's about to get two new types of ghosts on the game's beta branch. Phasmo has gotten lots of changes during early access, but this will be the first time it's introduced new ghosts. The upcoming Yokai and Hantu both sound like they're going to be tough to flush out without getting killed. Perfect.
]]>Yes, I know it is now half a year past the prime month for spooky games but ghost sleuthing sim Phasmophobia has not let that stop its continual updates. So I will not let it stop me from talking about them either. As of a beta branch update last weekend, Phasmo's ghosts are, once again, much harder, better, faster, and stronger than before. Yes, all four. I will prove it to you to justify my tortured, dated reference.
]]>Phasmophobia is scary enough as it is. I've been playing for months and I still sometimes squeal like a small child when a ghost chases me. I won't ever muster the courage to play in VR and I will never, ever have a desire to play wearing a haptic suit. I'd really like to watch someone else do it though. For you absolute horror fiends, Phasmophobia has just added support for Bhaptics Tactsuits for some extra jumpscare fuel.
]]>If you think you've got your ghost hunting routine down to a science, think again. Ghost investigation simulation Phasmophobia has gotten a hefty update that makes ghosts smarter and increases the difficulty of professional level contracts. Next time you load up the game you might need to be a bit quicker on your feet to avoid being murdered by that angry demon named Carol.
]]>It's Friday evening here, which means it's almost time to shuffle off the clock and pack up my ghost hunting gear. That's right, the resident Phasmophobia-liker is here to tell you what's new and why you should be playing the early access ghost hunting sim's even earlier access version. I now have nearly 50 hours clocked on Phasmophobia and its beta branch can still scare me to tears.
]]>What's up gamers? It's 2021 and that means it's time to round up the team's favourite games of 2020. You'll already know our selections if you read our annual Advent Calendar, but this post gathers all those words and games together in one convenient package.
]]>Yes, I know official spooks month is long past now. Yes, I am still playing Phasmophobia. The co-op ghost hunting simulation is just too much fun to mess around in with pals. The more familiar we've gotten with the game though, the clearer it is that there is one ghost hunting objective that is the absolute worst. It doesn't sound like much, but snapping a photo of dirty water is an absolute pain in the rear and, glory to all that is good, Phasmophobia's developer has decided to remove it.
]]>The prison map that ghost hunting game Phasmophobia's been cooking up is out today in a new game update. That there's a picture I personally took while exploring it for the first time, a commitment I hope you can appreciate as I do not hunt ghosts solo. Here's a few other observations about the new prison map from yours truly before you go try it for yourself.
]]>Early access ghost spotting sim Phasmophobia will be opening the doors of a prison map [distant creak]... did you hear that? I thought… No, it must be a dire wolf or something. Anyway, as I was saying, the map will be [sound of creak, but closer] — is that you, Graham? Haha. Very funny. I’m not scared, you know? I’m trying to do a news post. Graham? GRAHAM? Ok, so ghost hunting sim Phasmophobia’s upcoming prison map has been teased, here’s some scre

]]>While the maker of Phasmophobia did once hint at plans to add a PvP mode to the smash-hit cooperative ghost-hunting game, they've now said naw that's off. Didn't fit what the game is. Makes sense. Phasmophobia's a game of terse and unpredictable encounters with entities who behave in inhuman ways, and even the most murderous spirit is often inscrutable. A human opponent playing to win objectives sounds boring in comparison. And with only one person making the game, sure, it's best to focus on the good stuff rather than get lost in modes people didn't buy it for.
]]>Hear ye hear ye, here's the top releases on Steam from the month of September. As ever, some big names like Marvel and Mafia are on the list, and so are some long-awaited favorites like Spelunky 2 and Serious Sam 4. More interesting though are the weird indie breakout games. Yup, Phasmophobia's on there and you can't stop me from talking about it.
]]>Co-op ghost hunting game Phasmophobia has enthralled a lot of players and I am one of them. It's a total riot to play with pals—which I've done almost every single night for a week and a half. In that time, I've already progressed from tiptoeing meekly through haunted houses to boldly taunting ghosts by name as soon as I cross the threshold. For those like me, good news then that Phasmophobia is planning some changes to make ghosts a bit scarier and trickier to pin down.
]]>Ghost hunting simulation Phasmophobia has certainly scared up a rising player base. Despite the somewhat janky quality of its early access version, folks seem to be pretty possessed by the supernatural spooks. It's been climbing in concurrent Steam players and Twitch viewers this month, leaving even known weenies like me curious enough to consider playing with friends.
]]>Playing games with other people is one of the beloved traditions of liking video games at all, and if you're the friendly type like us at RPS, then you'll enjoy games where you work with others, rather than against them. That's why we've put together our list of the best co-op games on PC for you to find common ground with your besties. Whether you want to shoot monsters together, shoot robots together, or get a divorcing couple to work together as they run around their own home as tiny doll versions of themselves, then you can find something to enjoy on this list of co-op games.
