Ubisoft are planning to make Tom Clancy's The Division 3. The project was announced alongside news that Julian Gerighty, the current creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, would move across to be "executive producer for The Division brand" once that project is finished.
]]>Ubisoft have started to dish out two-week suspensions to players in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 over an XP exploit. Players were apparently joining the game’s roguelike Descent mode partway through matches via a loophole in Ubisoft Connect’s interface. The team says the bug yielded an “unfair amount of XP and SHD levels,” hence the penalties.
]]>Ubisoft held a livestream last night to lay out the future of their MMO shooter franchise. The stream covered a roadmap for The Division 2’s fifth year of support and a deep dive into the upcoming The Division Heartland, a free-to-play spin-off that’s more focused on the series’ survival aspects.
]]>The Division 2 has enjoyed a long life since its 2019 release, but it seems like the looter shooter has finally tripped. Just last week, Ubisoft delayed the game’s imminent Season 11 launch due to localisation issues that had been “impacting the experience for many players.” But in the process of fixing that issue, Ubisoft had accidentally “brought down the build generation system,” meaning that no updates were possible until the system was rebuilt. At least they’re being honest.
]]>Last night was a restless one for the Steam Deck. In addition to a huge client update for the handheld PC, Valve pushed out a Proton Experimental update to fix a crashing problem with games that use the Ubisoft Connect launcher on Steam.
Ubi’s launcher had received an update of its own, sadly one that interfered with the ability of Proton – the layer of software that helps made-for-Windows games run on the Linux-based SteamOS – to keep it compatible with the Deck. Indeed, just like the 2K Launcher last year, with the added irony that the affected games (which include The Division 2, Watch Dogs Legion and Ghost Recon Breakpoint) only arrived on Steam in the past few weeks.
]]>Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot once said that Tom Clancy's The Division 2 being absent from Steam was "a long-term positive". Perhaps he meant that only in the sense that, long-term, the game would come to Steam anyway. That's what has happened now. As announced late last year, the open world cover shooter is now available on Steam after a period of Epic and Ubisoft store exclusivity.
]]>Ubisoft stopped releasing their games via Steam back in 2019, starting with The Division 2. The Tom Clancy shoot-to-looter was instead released via Ubisoft's own digital storefront and via the Epic Games Store. It'll finally arrive on Steam next month on January 12th, as part of Ubisoft's broader shift back to Valve's storefront.
]]>A store page for The Division's upcoming free-to-play looter-shooter spin-off The Division: Heartland went up on the Ubisoft Store yesterday, revealing new details about the game's setting and multiplayer modes. The store page has since been taken down, but not before it was spotted by a few eagle-eyed Twitterers. Seeing as the next Ubisoft Forward showcase is scheduled for this coming Saturday, it’s entirely possible that we’ll be seeing some concrete deets about Heartland then.
]]>Ubisoft have announced Tom Clancy’s The Division: Heartland, a new standalone free-to-play game due for release in 2021-2022. Details are scant, but it'll be developed by Red Storm Entertainment rather than Massive Entertainment, who made The Division 1 and 2.
]]>What's new in The Division 2? Well not much, for a while anyway. Ubisoft have announced that they're working on a big update with a new game mode but it won't be out until later this year at the earliest. Until then, The Division 2 will be re-running past seasons so you can play through things you might have missed.
]]>The studio behind The Division are making a new "story-driven, open-world Star Wars game," Lucasfilm announced today. They revealed plans to start working with more developers on Star Wars games, not just Electronic Arts. However, they do say they are still working with EA on new projects. This news arrives the day after Bethesda announced an Indiana Jones game, being made by Wolfenstein studio MachineGames.
]]>Ultrawide gaming monitors can seem excessive compared to regular 16:9 gaming screens, especially when their demanding resolutions often require powerful and expensive graphics cards to make the most of them. Once you try one, though, there's no going back. I've been a big fan of ultrawide gaming monitors for years now, as their extra screen space not only makes them great for juggling multiple desktop windows, but supported PC games also look uttery fantastic on them - and to prove it, I've put together this list of the best ultrawide games on PC.
]]>You thought it was over. You believed the year of anguish would be a memory by now. I’m sorry, you were wrong. The carousel of disharmony will never cease, and neither will the bumper car motorcade of video games. This week, the United States of America chooses a President in a logistical process entirely in-keeping with the carnival metaphor I am here constructing. Even in video games - no strangers to ineffectual binary choice - there is a more varied selection of candidates. Here are 7 Presidents other than those offered on this week’s ballot.
]]>Have you watched... The Raid? The folks behind The Division 2 clearly have, because the urban murder RPG's next update is adding a whopping great skyscraper to the streets of post-collapse New York. With the front doors opening later this month, The Summit presents you and your pals with a daunting 100-storey deathtrap of office desks and heavy firearms to test yourself against.
]]>In the fiction of The Division 2, there must've been some folks who gave pause to the whole concept, right? Who, when their orange watch started beeping, reckoned they needed some time to decide whether they really wanted to become state-authorised secret soldiers? I can't say, but Ubisoft will, at least, now let you take a brief shot at The Division 2 for free - swaying over potential agents with the promise of goodies in Tom Clancy's other shooter.
]]>After leaving New York to visit Washington, D.C. in The Division 2, Ubisoft have now returned to the location of the first game in a new expansion. Warlords Of New York is its name, and hunting down the first game's baddie through is its game. The expansion launched on PC yesterday (consoles today) annnd now it might be worth a go, after a hasty hotfix targeting problems like not being able to talk to key NPCs. Bit of a problem, that. But the hotfix launched a few hours ago so go on, escape to New York.
]]>The Division 2 is heading back to the flaming bin-lined streets of the Big Apple this week with the launch of its brand-new expansion, Warlords of New York. Swapping the sunny sights of Washington DC for the now equally sweltering-looking streets of lower Manhattan, The Division 2: Warlords of New York is a great excuse to jump back into Ubisoft's giant open world looter shooter - and what better way to make sure you're fighting fit for tomorrow's big release than by having a gander at my freshly updated The Division 2 PC performance guide?
]]>New York needs saving again, and it's your job to do it when The Division 2's Warlords Of New York expansion drops on March 3rd. The DLC will bring back the big bad from the first Division, and lo' and behold he's got another strain of the nasty virus that caused the world to go to shambles in the first place. This expansion kicks off Year 2 of the game's content, and Ubisoft say it's "an encapsulated narrative experience from the start".
]]>Who wants to be in D.C., anyway? Forget the politics, Forget the media buzz. The Division 2 has had enough, ditching the capitol for a two-mission trip to New York City's Coney Island. See the sights, ride the rights, and extrajudicially murder a riverboat's worth of masked mercenaries. Episode 3 is sending agents off to the fair later this month, to finally see about curing that nasty virus wot killed most of America and left thousands of rare assault rifles in everyone's bins.
]]>Gather round, descendants of unwelcome occupiers. It is time to celebrate turkeys again. Now, I don’t have any comically large birds to slaughter, but I do recognise the emotional benefit of reflection, which is what this questionable holiday is all about. Being thankful. There are many small things we videosgamers take for granted, the stuff you don’t even think about. But tiny “quality of life” things still deserve a grateful thumbs-up. Here are 17 things to be thankful for in games.
]]>HDR on PC hasn't improved much in 2019. Despite there being more HDR gaming monitors than ever before, the very best gaming monitors for HDR continue to be quite expensive compared to non-HDR monitors, and the situation around Windows 10 support for it is still a bit of a mess. However, provided you're willing to fight through all that, then the next step on your path to high dynamic range glory is to get an HDR compatible graphics card.
Below, you'll find a complete list of all the Nvidia and AMD graphics cards that have built-in support for HDR, as well as everything you need to know about getting one that also supports Nvidia and AMD's own HDR standards, G-Sync Ultimate and FreeSync 2. I've also put together a list of all the PC games that support HDR as well, so you know exactly which PC games you can start playing in high dynamic range.
]]>The Division 2's street-fashion soldiers have packed their bags, loaded their rifles, and titled their baseball caps backwards for their most dangerous mission yet. While that elusive second raid might still be a while off, Title Update 6 arrives today, dropping seasoned street cleaners into the heart of The Pentagon for some high tech murder in The Division 2: Episode 2.
But today's update does more than give endgame experts more baddies to blap, bringing in an explosive new specialist and sweeping interface changes to clean things up, one way or another.
]]>New York? I'm over it. DC? Done. The White House? Have you seen the state of it? After taking on some of America's most famous landmarks, Tom Clancy's casualwear combatants are preparing to burn down the country's most infamous shape. Title Update 6 for The Division 2 arrives alongside Episode 2 of the game's ongoing story, placing an army of baseball-cap warriors against highly-trained mercenaries in the heart of the USA's military might next week.
]]>Google held another one of their Stadia Connect conferences today, and this one was meant to be all about what games you'll be playing in the "scary" cloud come November. Sure enough, there were new Stadia games aplenty announced this evening, with the biggest addition being Cyberpunk 2077.
To help keep track of them all, here's a list of every Google Stadia game confirmed so far, as well as which games are coming at launch, which ones will be arriving a little bit later, and which games you'll only be able to play by subscribing to one of the special Stadia publisher subscriptions.
]]>Rural life is disgusting. All those shrubs and trees, how awful. You should pack your checkered pouch and head into the big smoke. The shining cities of videogameland are calling to you, and the team of the RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show, will be there to help you get settled in to your disgusting, overpriced flat no matter which giant urban maze you choose. Trust us, life is so much better in the city.
Ignore the rats. You'll get used to them.
]]>95% of Assassin's Creed Odyssey players kept subtitles on, Ubisoft have revealed, and 50% of The Division 2 players are currently playing with them on too. These surprising statistics and more come from a wee tweetblast this week confirming that yes, subtitles are hugely desirable even in murdergames. Even as someone who often plays with subs on, I'm surprised by the numbers shared by David Tisserand, an accessibility project manager and user research fella at Ubisoft Montreal. Subs: they are good. Subs in video games: they could be better. Conclusion: more and better subs, video games, please and thank you.
]]>Because subtlety is overrated and ammo is cheap in the post-apocalypse (so say Ubisoft), players can lug around their own rotary-barrelled bullet hose in The Division 2 now. Available immediately for Year One Pass owners or after completing a series of in-game challenges for everyone else, the Gunner is the latest Specialisation; a prestige class you pick once you hit the level cap. While defined by their weapon, the ammo will eventually run dry, but Gunners can also fall back to a bag of high-tech tricks. Below, a trailer for the new class and today's patch notes abridged.
]]>Ubisoft, who make RPGs about a 3000-year-long battle between freedom and order, FPSs about liberating occupied lands, and military shooters so jingoistic they cause governmental complaints, have been arguing for a long time that their games aren’t political. Yesterday, they posted an interview with Tommy Francois, vice president of editorial, in an attempt to clarify their position. It did not help.
]]>(Now updated with extra pricing clarification) There were a lot of things left unsaid during Google's Stadia announcement three months ago, but finally the search giant has given us some answers in today's Stadia Connect conference, confirming how much Stadia's going to cost, when we can get our hands on it and exactly what games we're going to be playing on it. So, err... Baldur's Gate 3, anyone?
]]>With Raids being introduced in The Division 2, you'll want the best gear on you to survive them, as well as ones for the Occupied Dark Zones, or any of the other PVP/PVE stuff in the game. Plenty of decent builds have cropped up around the internet since release and our aim is to give you the best ones to put into one place.
]]>New weapons were bound to come into The Division 2 eventually and one of the best, if most elusive has to be the Nemesis Sniper Rifle. But how do you get it? These legendary guns are hard to come by and might not seem like much at first, but with proper care and use they are easily some of the very best death-dealing machines in the game.
]]>Some have called The Division 2 one of the loot-n-shooter genre's very best titles, and - whether or not you agree - much of this success is down to the tight gunplay and diverse arsenal of guns and weapons to choose from. As you stalk the streets of Washington D.C., you know at all times that you're only as good as the two primary weapons and one sidearm you carry. Our The Division 2 weapons guide will walk you through how to get your choice of weaponry right first time, by walking you through the stats and behaviours of every single weapon you can find through every class tier level, from the common and worn all the way up to legendary Exotics like the Ruthless Rifle and the Lullaby Shotgun.
]]>After a few delays to tweak and tune the base game, Ubisoft are just about ready to roll out Operation Dark Hours, the first eight-player raid for The Division 2. Players will need to have climbed to the tippy top of the game's progression ladder (Level 30, World Tier 5, Gear Score 490) to start the mission, which begins at the helipad at the White House. Players will be ferried eight at a time outside of the main city map to Washington National Airport, which is absolutely jam-packed with Black Tusk mercenaries. Unsurprisingly, they need to be shooted and looted. Below, a trailer.
]]>Those hoping to dive into Operation Dark Hours, the first eight-player raid mission in The Division 2 will have to settle for grinding more invaded missions next week. Massive announced earlier today that they're delaying Title Update 3.0 from April 25th to an indeterminate point in May, giving them a little longer to tweak and tune balance on the just-launched Public Test Server. They also outlined some of the ideas they're floating on the PTS, including sweeping changes to Dark Zone and general PvP balance. You can see today's full developer stream (and a summary) below.
]]>The Division 2 may have no central narrative to speak of, but that hasn't stopped Massive Entertainment sneaking some exciting, ARG-styled mystery tales into it. As of last week's endgame-expanding update, players have been spotting wooden owls hidden around post-invasion Roosevelt Island, each guarding a candle which can be lit. Seven owls in total, and if all seven candles are lit in the right order, an underground passage is opened. Things only get stranger below, hinting at a cult working behind the scenes in DC, with ritual-locked hideouts to be found. Spooky.
]]>Tidal Basin, the first major content update of The Division 2, was released to agents everywhere on 5th March. Offering up a great many changes, features, and adjustments, from the new Black Tusk Stronghold and World Tier 5 to an overhaul of the weapon mod system and smaller quality of life and UI alterations. Our The Division 2 Tidal Basin update guide will walk you through all the major changes that have taken place with this bountiful new update, starting with the full patch notes and then going into detail with some of the most important new features we've found.
]]>The Division 2 is a very accomplished and addictive loot-n-shooter, and we here in the office have been whiling away our time in an attempt to become very accomplished loot-n-shooters ourselves within the dilapidated ruins of a wartorn Washington D.C. Our The Division 2 guide will walk you through everything you need to know to thrive and deal justice and death in this faction-dominated city, with detailed information on everything from the best builds and weapons on offer to information about control points, brand sets, Endgame territory and the Dark Zones.
]]>So, you've weaved your way through The Division 2's Main Campaign and into the Endgame, and perhaps you've heard all this talk about the different Specializations you can unlock and you're wondering at what point exactly you can expect to see them. Well, worry not, because all you need is to complete a couple more steps in order to unlock World Tier 1 and the Specializations you so desire. Our The Division 2 Specializations guide will walk you through the different Specializations and Signature Weapons on offer, along with all of the skills you can unlock to improve your mastery of each Endgame weapon.
]]>The Division 2 keeps what set the original from other similar looter shooters: The Dark Zone. While the original game only had one, the sequel has three distinct Dark Zones, where some of the tensest moments of The Division 2 come from, and where the very best loot can be found. Our The Division 2 Dark Zone guide will walk you through these perilous areas of the map, detailing how to unlock them as well as chest locations and useful tips on surviving and thriving in the Dark Zones.
]]>No trophy says "I have conquered this game" quite like ripping off the Hunter Masks of the toughest enemies in The Division 2. Hunters are a secretive bunch, all level 35, and if they're ever summoned into the ether, they will try to humiliate you. But that's not going to happen, because now you're here reading our The Division 2 Hunter Masks guide, where we've documented exactly where to find each of the 12 hunters so you can grab their lovely masks for your own collection.
]]>The Division 2 might already be a pretty top-notch loot-n-shooter, but even before its full release Ubisoft had unveiled a detailed roadmap of Year 1 content updates and DLC. There's an ambitious range of new features, specializations, and game modes lined up for players, all interspersed amongst three large DLC "Episodes" and a handful of smaller content updates. Our The Division 2 Year 1 Pass guide will walk you through everything to expect with the Year 1 updates, along with detailed information on what you'll get as part of the Year 1 Pass.
]]>With The Division 2, Ubisoft and Massive have paid special attention to improving upon the glaring issues of its predecessor; and nowhere is this more evident than The Division 2 Endgame. Once players hit Level 30 and complete the Main Campaign, they'll be greeted with a variety of special Endgame missions and objectives to tackle, as well as a brand new ultra-powerful faction to deal with. Our The Division 2 Endgame and World Tiers guide will walk you through how the game changes once you complete the main campaign, and how to deal with the new Black Tusk faction and unlock the four (soon to be five!) different World Tiers.
]]>Ubisoft have temporarily disabled The Division 2's 'Project' quests due to an issue which let players repeatedly claim rewards and--heaven forbid!--get more loot than intended. They tried to fix this on Sunday with an emergency server restart but that didn't work, so the Projects are disabled until a full fix is in place. I hope you're happy, you rotters. By squeezing more loot out the online looter-shooter than you were supposed to, you've taken loot away from everyone. Booooo.
]]>The Division 2 rolls out its first major update tomorrow, starting a mini-season of content Ubisoft and Massive are calling Invasion: Battle For DC. Broken up into three updates, tomorrow's adds the Stronghold mission to take down the high-tech Black Tusk faction, a new World Tier with new invaded missions and a new PvP map. On April 25th, the game is due its first eight-player raid plus the first season-pass-exclusive Classified Assignments. Due later (but not dated) is the fourth Specialisation sub-class, seemingly letting players carry a minigun, because subtlety is overrated.
]]>Status effects are easy to ignore in The Division 2 - until you come across them, that is, and realise just how powerful and debilitating they can be. Different forms of skills and ammunition can cause you to bleed, burn, become poisoned, and just generally die in a magnificent variety of ways, so it's important to know what's what when it comes to all these different debuffs. Our The Division 2 status effects guide will walk you through every status effect we know about, and how they can be used against both NPC enemies and other players.
]]>Tom Clancy's open-world rendition of Washington D.C. in The Division 2 supplies players with a wide variety of activities and objectives besides the plethora of Main Missions and Side Missions to conquer on your way to Level 30. At any given moment you're likely to be only a street or block away from some sort of altercation with an enemy faction; a Public Execution, perhaps, or a contested Control Point. Our The Division 2 activities and world events guide will walk you through each of these objectives one at a time, so you know what to expect and how best to deal with each one.
]]>The Division 2 is a big game, taking most folks around thirty hours of looting and shooting before you even meet its fourth set of 'endgame' villains. Next Friday's big update on April 5th will give players even more to chew on for free, especially those who have worked their way up through the World Tiers battling Black Tusk forces. Those who have looted and levelled all the way up to the end of World Tier 4 will soon have the chance to storm the home of the invading techno-mercenaries - the new Tidal Basin stronghold - and progress to Tier 5 with even more invaded missions.
]]>Plenty of systems in The Division 2 have been rethought and refined from its first iteration in The Division 1, and prime among them is the redesigned Recalibration Station. This station is unlocked through Staff member Emma Richards, and can be used to transfer attributes and talents from one item or piece of gear to another. It's also a pretty confusing station to get to grips with at first, which is why our The Division 2 Recalibration guide will walk you through how to use this area of your Base of Operations to upgrade both your items and your Gear Score while you're at it.
]]>Error codes and crashes are the bane of many an agent's existence in The Division 2, with these glum grey and orange errors sporadically appearing and barring players from entering Washington D.C. and mowing down enemy factions. But fear not, for our The Division 2 error code guide will walk you through each error code you may encounter during your time with Tom Clancy's open-world loot-n-shooter, with detailed information on what you can do to resolve each issue.
]]>The Italian men are shouting at me. I don’t understand what they’re yelling, but it’s clear from the rifles pointed at my torso that this is not a friendly chat. They’re upset. I’ve upset them. The Division 2 is a solid shoot ‘n’ loot, as I said in our review. Yes it has a few niggles (the crap story, the bugs) but the Dark Zone is one of its returning treats. This is the part of Washington DC where other players skulk in the alleyways. Sometimes they hide in the apartments, like scavenging rodents. Sometimes they sprint away the moment they see you, like a startled deer. And sometimes they point their assault rifles at your heart and shout at you in a romance language.
]]>The Division 2 is a "rock solid looty-shooty" according to our Brendan, and having now spent a fair amount of time playing it myself, I'd say I wholeheartedly agree. I've had a lot of fun swanning around Washington DC's sunny wildlife haven, and I much prefer it to the snowy, flaming bin-lined streets of the first game.
But it hasn't all been shooting up museums and iconic DC landmarks. I've also been testing The Division 2 with a wide range of today's best graphics cards to find out how to get the best settings on PC, and where you can cut corners if your graphics card isn't quite up to snuff. Thankfully, the good news is that The Division 2 runs like a well-oiled machine gun on PC, so even those with lower-end graphics cards should be able to get a stable 60fps without much trouble.
]]>Each one of the features in The Division 2 are locked behind one of the many staff members. To unlock them, you'll need to complete missions for each one of the two settlements, providing you with more opportunities to score extra loot, while killing more of the bad guys along the way. So if you want to have better stuff in the future agent, it's time to get recruiting.
]]>When looting all the gear in The Division 2, you may have noticed that some of them have special bonuses that are applied when equipped. These are brand sets and their bonuses get better and better as you equip more items from the same brand of clothing. But you may want to have a full list of the brands so you can start creating some decent builds to share with others. Help's at hand as we have the full list.
]]>Nero played the fiddle as Rome burned, we’re told. If only he could see The Division 2’s Washington DC, a city that has been on fire for seven months. He’d be so happy. This is a shooter about taking pleasure in the ruination of a superpower. The United States is falling to bits and it’s your job to fix it “block by block” (side mission by side mission). It’s an excellent timewaster, and like many Clancyromps, you won’t come out of it moved or bettered. You’ll just come out at 1am, wondering what happened to Saturday. It’s a brash run ‘n’ gun about killing angry men who bleed numbers. A trashy target range that has you admiring purple kneepads even as the city smolders around you. If Nero were a character in The Division 2, he would need to perform a whole set of stadium country music on the steps of the Capitol just to evoke an equivalent contrast.
]]>With both the White House and Theater acting as settlements in The Division 2, there are only a few other places that you can warp to, in order to save on the walking. The first are Safehouses that can just be accessed once, but the more interesting checkpoints are the Control Points. You'll need to take over them, but once you do, they unlock goodies for you and you'll be asked to help with supplies.
]]>Our boy Brendy is still roaming the wasteland of Washington, Detective Comics before presenting to us all Wot He Thinks of The Division 2, but one thing I can tell you is: one nasty skills bug is fixed. Massive Entertainment have stamped on a number of bugs which were causing deployed skills to just plain misfire and go on cooldown. Sure, everything is busted in the post-apocalyptic wastelands of the United States AND IN THE GAME [Alice... -ed.] but that's no reason for even our skills to break on us too. That's now mmmostly fixed as of last night's update, though Ubisoft do advise avoiding certain skills until a few more fixes follow.
]]>While finding new items in The Division 2 is generally the way to go, there are times where you just need to make it yourself. Mods in particular are unlocked mostly by blueprints that need to be crafted. It can be a little confusing for new players, so we will let you know via this guide how it all works.
]]>There are two sets of skills in The Division 2: The ones that are unlocked in the endgame, and ones unlocked during the main campaign. The ones from the campaign give players a taste of just how advanced their technology is. But which ones are the best ones to unlock first? This guide will go over all of the skills in The Division 2, as well as give you tips on how to use them.
]]>Preordering The Division 2 or buying one of the many special editions should nab you some exclusive gear and chances are you'll want to get your items as soon as possible.
Annoyingly, they're not just granted to you at a certain point, as you'll need to navigate a menu at stashes, and even then it's not obvious where to go. Don't despair agent, we're here to help you get those items, and the upgrade module that you'll need for getting your preorder weapons to scale up with you.
]]>In The Division 2, skills are your more flashy means of attack. However, your build is only as good as the perks you've unlocked, since they're key to surviving the war-torn Washington D.C. But you may be asking yourself, "Which ones should I invest in take first?" Our handy little guide to the perks found in the game will tell you which ones to spend your SHC tech caches on, and also provide you with a complete list of the ones available.
]]>The Division 2 is as finely detailed as Clancyromps get. Hot steam pipes up from street grates. Footprints appear in the dust as you explore derelict office blocks. The Washington DC of this apocalypse shooter is littered with waist-high cover, sure. But it is also littered with actual litter. Uncountable piles of bin bags and trash piled up in the street, next to the body bags. You can almost smell the rot of this fallen city. But then, something emerges from the miasma in the street. Another bandit with a machete? No, it’s a deer. Because The Divison 2 is also teeming with wildlife. Crows, deer, raccoons, foxes. It’s basically a gritty reboot of The Animals of Farthing Wood. My review is still in progress, so for now, here are some of my new favourite friends.
]]>The real meat of The Division 2 comes in the form of the endgame, so you may not want to waste any time getting there. I get it, I really do. Not many of us can afford to wade through 40 hours of stuff to get to the best bits. But help is at hand. I'll be going over the top tips for progressing to Level 30 and unlocking the specialisations quickly, so you can get stuck into the action.
]]>Some weapons in The Division 2 can dish out the damage, but without mods they may be a tad unstable. Since the mods system has been overhauled for the sequel, it's important that you go over exactly how they work and how best to use them with your weapon sets. Our guide has all the information you need to get started.
]]>Different factions have taken over Washington D.C. in The Division 2. Each one dangerous, each one with their own goals and ideals. They all have one thing in common - they hate the Division agents that get in the way of their chaos. Enemies in The Division 2 do have many different icons and colours, so we will be going over all of them.
]]>It's the end of another long day at Fags & Mags & Rab(bid)s, a wee family-owned shop and video game company on the corner of a sleepy street in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil.
Michel Guillemot is down on his hands and knees, fishing under the pick 'n' mix display for loose sweets he then dusts on the lapel of his brown cotton shopcoat before popping them back into their correct box.
A yelp rises from the back room. Yves Guillemot rushes out, a dusty bottle of prosecco in his hand and a wide smile across his face.
"Brother!" Yves cries. "They did it! We're safe! We did it!"
Michel slips a gummy egg between his lips and waits for Yves to calm down.
"Vivendi! Finally! They said they would! They have!" he gasps while tearing at the foil on the bottle. Yves notices his brother's bemused look (and pretends not to notice he's eating the stock again) and pauses to catch his breath. "Vivendi finally sold their remaining Ubisoft shares. That's the very end of their takeover attempt. Our family business is safe."
Michel swallows and reaches for a pack of plastic picnic champagne flutes.
]]>Ahead of The Division 2's free open beta test running this weekend, you can now preload the beta client so you'll be ready to go when it's go time. Well, you'll be ready if you can download 44.5GB by tomorrow morning. Yes, that preloading period does seem a little short for folks without mega-whizzy connections. But hey, if you want to scamper about apocalyptic Washington D.C. with your warpals in Ubisoft's online looter-shooter, hop to it.
]]>In this mission of The Division 2, you are tasked with two main objectives: Reactivate the ISAC Node in Jefferson Trade Centre, and rescue the missing agent - Espinoza, who went in ahead of you. The fact that he hasn't been returning the Division's calls is not a good sign. You're also introduced to a Hyena named Coyote in this mission and she has a mean streak.
]]>When you first meet Odessa Sawyer, she's a bit despondent, saying that Agent Kelso has already left to try and rescue her daughter. She sets you the task of catching up to Kelso and aiding in the rescue of her kin. This is your first proper mission, and you'll have to face against the first tough opponent - The Saint.
]]>The Division 2 dumps you right into the action from the get-go. Your task is to make it to the White House unscathed and link up with the Division base set up there. This walkthrough will go over the mission in detail, pointing out the enemies along the way and anything else you should know about.
]]>As part of Ubisoft's latest round of mostly positive financial reports (which, unlike Activision, were not accompanied by massive layoffs) CEO Yves Guillemot shed a little light on the publisher's decision to thumb its nose at Steam and make The Division 2 exclusive to the Uplay and Epic stores. In his words, it's not just about the smaller cut Epic takes, or whatever up-front money may or may not have changed hands as part of Epic's fulsome attempts to ring-fence big names within its new store.
It's not even, if I'm correctly reading between the lines, about Epic. Instead they suggest that people not buying from Steam means that Division 2 pre-orders on their own store, Uplay, are "six times higher".
]]>Ubisoft have announced The Division 2's open beta dates, which comes off the heels of the private beta that concluded recently. Though the Private Beta had its issues, they were minimal compared to other recent betas and gave us a good chance to take a look at the game before the final launch. Ubisoft have also set out to explain what features to expect on PC and the system requirements. This guide has all the details on the open beta we know, as well as the game's release date, details about the PC version, and information on each of the five editions.
]]>I missed out on the recent beta weekend for The Division 2. After hearing a lot of praise for the loot n' shooter from folks I trust, I'm glad I get another shot at it before launch - Ubisoft and Massive are opening their doors to everyone on Friday, March 1st. The free beta weekend will run until March 4th, hopefully giving the developers a few days to put out any last fires before it launches on March 15th. While there's no word on what events they'll be running during this free beta, I do hope it'll give players another peek at its endgame surprise. Some talk - and a video on that - below.
]]>Most of Tom Clancy's The Division 2 might be friendly and cooperative, but the lawless Dark Zones are returning in the sequel, giving players a chance to fight each other over some of the game's best loot. It's not quite as cutthroat as it used to be, thankfully, thanks to Ubisoft Massive protecting starting areas with automated turrets and player stats being normalised for a fairer competition - most of the time. There are also three Dark Zones, each one emphasising a different style of play; long, mid or short range combat, respectively. Take a look at how it all works in the handy info-vid below.
]]>New year, old friends. The boys and girls of the RPS podcast have not been reborn, they have no resolutions, no ambitious goal to learn German or eat more spinach. They just want to play more videogames. Unbelievable. So let’s listen to them chat about the shooters and RPGs that have them most excited. That’s what they do on these podcasts, you know, they just talk nonsense. And they get PAID for it. It’s outrageous, if you ask me, a nameless publication byline.
]]>Tom Clancy's The Division 2 launches in March, but those confident enough to put money down on Ubisoft Massive's MMO-lite shoot n' looter get to play around in its post-apocalyptic Washington DC early. A beta weekend will be running from Thursday, February 7th to Monday, February 1th, it'll be open to all pre-ordering players, but those merely curious in the game can sign up for a chance to get in free here. Below, a predictably patriotic and bombastic story trailer, and a breakdown of some of the PC version's finer features.
]]>Tom Clancy's The Division 2 won't be launching on Steam, but Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft's upcoming co-op shooter will launch on Epic's increasingly popular games store, as announced here. Ever since Epic unveiled their store in early December, they've been racking up independent exclusives, but signing a multi-game agreement with Ubisoft feels like a big deal. The game will still be available direct from Ubisoft via Uplay, but the Steam store page has now vanished (a Google-cached copy here), with an Epic Store page taking its place. The game launches March 15th.
]]>Tom Clancy's The Division 2 is not a political game. We've heard this from Ubisoft, who insists that their title about an uprising set in Washington D.C. will avoid being political. No politics... in Washington D.C. and that's final. Sorry, I guess all of my coverage of the game needs to start with me shaking this scaldingly mild take off, like a wet dog covered in bad takes. Like Tom Clancy's The Division Origins Part The First, there is a big giant city out there to conquer and the emphasis is on group play and cooperation. For those of you who have two or more friends. For the rest of us, there's good news in the form of a recent announcement that the game is absolutely beatable as a single player experience, including Division endgame missions with notorious difficulty spikes.
]]>It seems like more of the same. To say this of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 might make you fire your rifle into the air and shout “yeehaw” but it’s more likely to make you shrug. ‘Ubisoft sequel marginally different from previous game’ is not exactly a surprising headline, I’ll admit, but it’s all I’ve got based on the 15 minutes of footwork and firefights I played through as a demo. The wintry warfare of The Division’s New York kept me idly satisfied even with its plateaus of grind and spongey enemies. We’re now sojourning though a summery Washington DC, a new city that promises to depart from endless apartment blocks. But in reality, I can barely notice the difference.
]]>The festival of dumb explosions known as E3 is over, but that won’t stop us. The RPS podcast, the Electronic Wireless Show, goes deep into the show, picking out our favourite games, the oddest moments, and best rats (spoiler: it was the one crushed by a shelf in the Resident Evil 2 trailer). We’re also introducing two new voices this week. Who are these strange people?
]]>During this year’s E3, I saw the largest screen I’d ever witnessed, folded around the corner of a building like a giant piece of glowing paper. It told me to buy Nike. LA is already the neon futuretown of California, never mind Night City. But I didn’t just see ads for shoes at the LA convention centre, I saw a lot of games too. From the bustling streets of Cyberpunk 2077 to the twisting tornadoes of Just Cause 4. From the crumbling Capitol of The Division 2 to the clumsy motorcycling of Trials Rising. Here are my highlights from the game industry’s annual festival of bullets and colour, the sci-fi dystopia that was with us all along.
]]>Ubisoft's conference included everything we expected, from a closer look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, to confirmation of the leaked Assassin's Creed Odyssey, to the now traditional (and delightful) Just Dance dancy party. If you don't have time to watch the conference in its entirety however, here is a showcase of the trailers that were shown and links to the associated news from Ubisoft.
]]>Tom Clancy's shooty MMO-lite The Division 2 has a lot of endgame planned for those who burn through its main story, Ubisoft announced at their E3 press conference. After completing the story, you'll get to choose a prestige class with its own dedicated special weapon, as well as unlocking a new set of "specialisations". You'll probably need a few of these extra ranks under your belt to tackle the new 8-player raids, which (if the high-level stuff in the first game was any indication) will put most squads through the wringer. It also looks like it'll have a more reasonable approach to expansions and updates for dedicated players, saying many episodic updates will be free.
]]>Microsoft had a lot of games to announce at E3 2018, but it's a little murkier this year to find out what was relevant for PC users. Some games were coming to both, others only to their Xbox One consoles. You could of course watch the entire conference right here, but for some there just isn't enough time to wade through the entire show.
Not to worry though, here are all the trailers and news for you in one place. There's a surprising amount of variety in the announced titles: from an old favourite making a return, much celebrated developers showing off their new series, to even a completely free game launching very soon. The games below aren't in any particular order but you're in for a long ride.
]]>Ubisoft today revealed The Division 2, continuing their near-future post-apocalyptic online open-world shooter-RPG series. This time, players will be fighting for survival--and to establish order--in Washington DC. Unlike the first game's snowy New York City, this seems quite a pleasant place, aside from the virus and all the gangs and factions murdering each other. Here, watch the first lump of gameplay footage in a demonstration vid from Ubi below. And yes, you bet your botty it includes ha-ha-hilarious scripted banter between players.
]]>Update: Ubisoft have officially announced development of The Division 2, along with an English version of the press release.
The Division 2 is in development, according to a press released leaked by a German stock-traders site. Thanks to the wonders of Google Translate, we have the first few morsels of info on an upcoming sequel to the shoot-o-RPG.
