The more I think about it the more I realize The Technomancer [official site] is just Mad Max: Fury Road on Mars but without the all the exploding cars. There's a definite desert vibe and a massive shortage of water — so what else do you need? Well, in truth, probably a lot more. But still, The Technomancer looks intriguing and is out on Steam today.
]]>The Technomancer [official site], for those of you unaware, is the incoming Mars-flung sci-fi RPG from developers Spiders that's closing in on a June launch. What we've seen so far looks pretty promising, yet the French outfit's back catalogue of ambitious but wonky titles haven't exactly wowed players or critics in the past post release. The latest trailer covers how companions will function in the latest trip to the Red Planet which, again, sounds impressive. So why can't I shake the feeling that history might be repeating itself? Before we continue, here's that trailer:
]]>When NASA discovered traces of water on Mars last year, the science world got excited. Could this discovery mean there's actually life up there on the Red Planet? Well, having just watched the latest seven minute gameplay overview trailer for Spiders' sci-fi action RPG The Technomancer [official site], I'm not sure I want this to be the case at all. What the hell IS that huge sandworm thing? Or that massive eight-legged creature? Or that towering double-horned reptile-like beast?!
Besides some gruesome and restless natives, the new video also explores character customisation, the four different skill trees the game will use, the three fighting styles you'll get the chance to adopt, and the multiple ways you'll go about completing quests.
]]>There's a new trailer out for The Technomancer [official site]. So far I had avoided Technomancer news and was kind of holding out for it to be a portmanteau of "technology" AND "ROMANCER". Maybe there would be a robot who was using its robot powers to find love. I think I was imagining Futurama's Calculon starring in a videogame of All My Circuits. I have now watched the trailer and am mourning the loss of Calculon: The Game because The Technomancer (as everyone else at RPS already knew) is about a dude who can control electricity. OBSERVE:
]]>The holidays are now over, and it's time to get back to what matters - saving a million accident-prone fantasy realms from their own past mistakes, evil gods on the rampage, and all that pesky loot that they clearly don't have anything better to do with than stick it in barrels at the bottom of dungeons. This is why so many of them have no choice but to have bandit-driven economies. Shameful. Someone should Do Something There.
Here's some of the most exciting RPGs due in 2016. I suspect a couple may not actually make it to final release this year, but never mind - 'tis the season to be generous. In no particular order, then, some of the ones I'm looking forward to...
]]>So, cards on the table, I've heard of technomancy but I'm not entirely sure what a technomancer is, nor what falls under the remit of such a title. If you're in a similar position, this trailer for The Technomancer [official site] tells us that front man Zachariah is "a warrior that's able to harness his bio-electric power into powerful skills and abilities in combat". Huh, there you go. The rest of the vid shares a lot of new information about French outfit Spiders' upcoming game, with a focus on combat.
I wouldn't normally pass comment on how a promo trailer is voiced, but there's something weirdly hypnotic about how this one's narrated:
]]>Mars: War Logs was not especially one well-received, one of those small RPGs with ambitions it couldn't achieve, but it wasn't booed out of town either. I'm a little puzzled, then, that the announcement of The Technomancer [official site] today doesn't mention War Logs at all. It's another sci-fi RPG set on Mars by French studio Spiders, them lot behind Of Orcs and Men and Bound by Flame too.
If you read the rest of this post, I'll show you a big monster where I honestly can't tell which slick bodypart is its head and which is its genitals or what or I don't know.
