Maybe you're playing Borderlands 3 for the first time ready for the movie, or doing a Borderlands marathon just to remind yourself what's what and who's who in the world of Pandora. Either way, you're going to want some SHiFT codes to make the most of looter shooter chaos.
]]>Alongside announcing plans to buy Borderlands developers Gearbox from the collapsing wreckage of Embracer Group, Borderlands publishers Take-Two overnight casually mentioned that they are "in active development on next installment in Borderlands series". This isn't a formal announcement as much as a businessblast to hype shareholders, so it didn't have anything specific to say about what Gearbox are up to with their wildly popular and deeply unfunny looter shooter series. It had seemed curious that the much-delayed Borderlands movie was coming out five years after the latest main series game and with no new one in sight.
]]>It's looking increasingly likely that Gearbox Entertainment is going to be sold by Embracer. In a town hall with staff earlier this week, CEO and co-founder Randy Pitchford reportedly told staff that a decision had been made regarding the studio's future, with more details to be shared in March.
Embracer bought Gearbox for $1.3 billion (around £1.02 billion) in 2021, but it was reported that they were looking to sell last year as part of ongoing layoffs, closures and divestments.
]]>Lost Boys Interactive have reportedly been hit by "sizable" layoffs, as overall owner Embracer Group continue the "restructuring" program that claimed over 900 jobs at various studios last year.
]]>We’ve known for a few years that Gearbox’s sci-fi shooter Borderlands is being adapted for the silver screen, but shooting on the movie is now almost finished. Director Eli Roth, known for grisly stuff such as Cabin Fever, has jumped off the project ahead of schedule though. Deadline report that Roth has handed Borderlands over to his friend Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool. Miller will oversee a few weeks of reshoots for Borderlands while Roth begins work on a horror movie called Thanksgiving.
]]>You can obtain Gearbox Software’s zany FPS Borderlands 3 without exchanging any currency over on the Epic Games Store from, well, now. The freebie coincides with the start of this year’s discounterrific Epic MEGA Sale, which runs from today until June 16th. That means there’ll be three more “blockbuster” free games coming over the next few weeks, according to Epic Games.
]]>Borderlands 3 is celebrating summer with another free game update and a few other goodies. The big new get is cross-platform multiplayer for almost every platform that Borderlands 3 is on, meaning you can group up with most of your console pals. Gearbox have also brought back their seasonal Revenge Of The Cartels event and have gone and made all their other seasonal events available year round. Here are the details on all of those changes that have now launched in the latest game update.
]]>In case there was any doubt, the studio that makes Borderlands games is working on another Borderlands game. Gearbox Entertainment CEO Randy Pitchford shot down some rumors about the studio co-developing a new vault hunter game by saying "Gearbox is lead dev of any future games in the Borderlands franchise". He followed up to add that the Borderlands 3 developers are "working on the big one". The next one is pretty much always "the big one" when it comes to game developers, but perhaps Gearbox are considering teasing their plans this summer.
]]>After being pulled from store virtuashelves in 2019 following the demise of Telltale Games, Tales From The Borderlands finally returned to sale to today. It's an episodic story spin-off from Gearbox's looter shooters, and both better and funnier than the source material. If you already owned it, hey, you still owned it anyway. But if you missed it, now you can get in.
]]>The looting and the shooting never stops on Pandora, it seems. Gearbox have announced that their next Borderlands 3 DLC, the Director's Cut, will launch on March 18th as part of Season Pass 2. It's adding a nasty new raid boss, murder mystery missions, and new loot-filled challenges to complete.
]]>Telltale Games' episodic Borderlands spinoff story Tales From The Borderlands was removed from sale after the company closed along with many of their other games. Gearbox, developers of the Boderlands series proper, have now announced that this particular narrative adventure is making a comeback next week on February 17th.
]]>Borderlands 3 is a storage vessel, a cryochamber which holds fondly remembered school crazes in its frozen heart. Crack it open and you’ll smell a fart and hear the sounds of Skrillex’s seminal dubstep track Bangarang. It's new tech that clings on to the past. It's a middle-aged man who is down with the kids. If being down with the kids is wearing your jeans so low your bare arse is revealed.
]]>Is there anything scarier than buying products at below the recommended retail price? Almost certainly, which is why I'd hesitate to call the Epic Games Store Halloween Sale particularly spooky. It is, however, taking a massive knife to game prices across the platform, with some pretty hefty discounts of up to 80% going on a number of range of fantastic games until the sale wraps on November 3rd.
]]>Tis the season for online games to get all haunted for a few weeks. Borderlands 3's Bloody Harvest is back with more skins to earn and spooks to shoot. It's on from now until November 5th, so you've got some time to check it out alongside all the other in-game events on your schedule.
]]>Borderlands 3 has wrapped its season pass of DLC with Krieg And The Fantastic Fustercluck but oh look, it's not done with updates just yet. Gearbox announced during their PAX Online showcase that there are more paid add-ons yet to come. The next of the bunch won't be a campaign DLC like Krieg and others have been, but it'll add a new game mode and new skill trees for each of your vault hunters.
]]>What's on your mind, Borderlands 3? Perhaps I should be asking what's in your mind, actually, because the fourth (and presumably final) DLC for Gearbox's trigger-happy loot romp is delving into the imagination of screaming masked goon Krieg. Arriving next month, Psycho Krieg And The Fantastic Fustercluck presents an unusually introspective turn for Borderlands, one where we explore the innermost feelings of a deeply troubled man trying to find his place in a chaotic future.
Nah, I'm kidding. We're gonna blow the crap outta this guy's mind.
]]>The third Borderlands 3 story DLC launches this month, named Bounty Of Blood, and today 2K gave a look at 14-minutes of action from the western-themed adventure. This being Borderlands, the bandits are riding mutant dinosaurs and our heroes saddle up on some kind of half-animal motorbike. It also has a curious unseen narrator who reminded me of a less-charming take on Bastion's narrator. Come see/hear.
]]>You know what Borderlands 3 was missing? A minigame that lets you sort through DNA samples from human poop. If that doesn't sound particularly appealing, you should know that it's all for a good real-life cause. Borderlands Science is a new arcade game you can find in-game, and it's created by scientists who need your help with their research into all the microbes hanging out in your gut - and playing it rewards you with some brand new skins and heads.
]]>The six months of Epic Game Store exclusivity for Borderlands 3 are officially up and he rootin' tootin' loot 'n shootin' game launches on Steam today. If you'd been waiting to play, you've missed a couple seasonal events and a DLC but there seems to be plenty more where all that came from. You can grab any of Borderlands 3's versions at a steep 50% discount on Steam for the next week.
]]>The above quartet of Borderlands 3 characters are pretty much everything Borderlands players could have asked for. They're colourful, they're varied, and they're larger-than-life gun-toting terminators with oodles of customisation options thanks to their intricate Skill Trees and Action Skills. With Amara the Siren, FL4K the Beastmaster, Moze the Gunner, and Zane the Operative, you'll have your hands full from the very start of the game just deciding who to pick and how to play them.
Our Borderlands 3 characters & skill trees guide will walk you through each Vault Hunter's skills, stats, strengths, weaknesses, backstories, and much more. There are no wrong choices with these characters, but we'll make sure you have the best possible experience during your time with whoever you pick.
]]>All the Borderlands 3 Endgame content on offer really blows the game's predecessors out of the water. From Mayhem Mode to Guardian Ranks, from the Proving Grounds to the Circle of Slaughter, Gearbox have given us a great deal of extra challenges to complete and high-value loot to gather after your first 30-or-so hours in the Borderlands 3 campaign.
Our Borderlands 3 Endgame guide will offer an overview on each of these (and other) aspects of the bombastic looter-shooter's post-campaign content, so you know exactly what you're getting into after finishing the Borderlands 3 story.
]]>Borderlands 3 lag and stuttering issues are an unfortunately common aspect of Gearbox's latest looter-shooter. And believe me when I say I understand your pain if you've also been assailed with such issues. I've put together the below list of potential fixes which have solved the issue for a great many people, so that with some luck, you'll be able to rid yourself of these micro-stutters and return to a consistent, smooth 60+ FPS during your Borderlands 3 adventures.
]]>Borderlands 3 weapons are utterly insane. Blasting far beyond the standard set by the previous games in the series, Borderlands 3 throws gun after gun after gun at you throughout its lengthy campaign, each with a multitude of attributes and effects that can completely change how the gun works. So we've put together this here Borderlands 3 weapons guide, complete with a fully detailed weapons cheat sheet available in up to 2k resolution for your second monitor!
]]>The 138 Borderlands 3 Legendary weapons on offer are, quite literally, spectacular. They're a spectacle. Spectacle-ular. While every other weapon in Borderlands 3 is procedurally generated and extremely variable, the uber-rare gold Legendary weapons have been carefully crafted to offer a completely new (and often very bizarre) experience with each one.
But how do you get your hands on them, and which of them could be called the best weapons in the Borderlands? Our Borderlands 3 Legendary weapons guide will answer these and any other questions you may have on Legendaries in this chaotic looter-shooter - including the best locations to go Legendary farming!
]]>Amara the Siren is the only playable Siren in Borderlands 3, and with her trio of explosive and spectacular powers, she certainly lives up to the Sirens' fearsome reputation.
In this Borderlands 3 Amara build guide, we've laid out the top-tier builds that you can use in the base game to get the most out of this no-nonsense powerhouse: one for Phasecast, one for Phaseslam, and one for Phasegrasp.
]]>Zane the Operative is the most flexible and versatile of the four Borderlands 3 characters, thanks to his unique ability to equip two Action Skills at once. But all that choice can also make things difficult as you try to decide how best to build him.
In this Borderlands 3 Zane build guide, we've laid out the top-tier builds that you can use in the base game to get the most out of this wise-cracking Operative: one for Barrier & Digi-Clone, one for Barrier & SNTNL, and one for Digi-Clone & SNTNL.
]]>FL4K the Beastmaster has always been one of the most versatile Borderlands 3 characters, with his ability to match his three powerful Action Skills with a unique and loyal companion creature.
In this Borderlands 3 FL4K build guide, we've laid out the top-tier builds that you can use in the base game to get the most out of this powerful Beastmaster: one for Jabber & Fade Away, one for Skag & Gamma Burst, and one for Spiderant & Rakk Attack.
]]>Moze the Gunner is the bombastic lead-spitter of the Borderlands 3 characters roster, and with her 15-tonne Iron Bear mech never far away, there is a great deal of scope for customising her however you want.
In this Borderlands 3 Moze build guide, we've laid out the top-tier builds that you can use to get the most out of this mech-wielding super-soldier; one for each skill tree found in the base game (Demolition Woman, Bottomless Mags, and Shield of Retribution) and then a bonus one for double Flamethrowers.
]]>GeForce Now's streaming catalogue is once again downsizing. Following Activision Blizzard and Bethesda Softworks' lead, 2K Games has requested that their games be removed from Nvidia's fancy new cloud gaming platform. Bye-bye, Bioshock and Borderlands. Seeya later, Sid Meier's Civilisation. It's the third time in less than a month a major publisher has pulled out of the service, leaving Nvidia's streaming offerings thinner by the week.
]]>The Epic Games Store exclusivity of Borderlands 3 will end on March 13th with a Steam launch, developers Gearbox Software announced today. They had previously said the looter-shooter's exile would end in April 2020 so apparently the Steam launch has been bumped up a bit, now coming exactly six months after the Epic debut. Steamers will be able to join Epiceers in multiplayer to burst monsters together, though some multiplayer features won't be enabled for crossplay at launch.
Gearbox also today announced the second story expansion, a stag do gone monstrously wrong named Guns, Love, And Tentacles: The Marriage Of Wainwright & Hammerlock.
]]>The long-forgotten Borderlands film might actually be making some headway, as Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford tweeted that Eli Roth has joined the team to direct it. Roth is known for making a fair few horror flicks (as well as that one weird family film where Jack Black plays a warlock that saves the world), so, yeah, no idea what his link is with Borderlands really.
Pitchford deleted the tweet announcing all the new film stuff this almost immediately - but the internet never forgets, Randy.
]]>Rejoice, for one of the capitalist high holidays is upon us. Valentine's Day is this Friday in our world, which means that every one of your online games will need a pink-themed event to keep you grinding for special pink items. This is Borderlands 3, so it involves hearts and shooting because if "guns" were a personality trait, they would be Borderlands'. The Broken Hearts Day event begins tomorrow, during which you'll use your superior gun charisma to woo loot out of enemies.
]]>As with last year, Valve have posted a look back at all of the changes to Steam in 2019 with a brief look ahead to 2020 squeezed in at the end. There are plenty of features you may or may not remember being added to Steam last year, among them changes to User Reviews. Valve claims they have utilized the new system for excluding anomalous barrages of negative reviews quite a chunk of times since implementing the new policy last year.
]]>Playing games with other people is one of the beloved traditions of liking video games at all, and if you're the friendly type like us at RPS, then you'll enjoy games where you work with others, rather than against them. That's why we've put together our list of the best co-op games on PC for you to find common ground with your besties. Whether you want to shoot monsters together, shoot robots together, or get a divorcing couple to work together as they run around their own home as tiny doll versions of themselves, then you can find something to enjoy on this list of co-op games.
]]>Glaad (formerly known as the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) have brought their media awards back for the 31st year, and for the second year in a row they're recognising video games "for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community and the issues that affect their lives".
Last year, Jay Castello wrote about how these video game awards highlight difficulties in celebrating queer representation, and this year it's slighty better, but it still feels a bit like it's missing the point.
]]>While every other game is adding snowflakes and presents, Borderlands 3 is skulking off to a dingy old casino ship for its first story expansion. Moxxie's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot is out as of yesterday. If you were missing dear dead Jack, he's back in hologram form to berate you as you shoot and loot your way through his derelict money trap.
Get ready for more gear and more guns. The shoot 'em up and loot 'em up Borderlands 3 has its first actual campaign DLC coming on December 19th, called Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot. You'll apparently be giving up vault hunting for Ocean's-style casino heists by wrecking Handsome Dead Jack's gaudy gambling den. Gearbox have released gameplay footage of the first 13 minutes of the affair.
Though they never once use the word "raid", I am deploying it to talk about Borderlands 3's upcoming Takedown at Maliwan's Blacksite. It's a new chunk of looter-shootering coming in November, and a free and permanent mission for those who have completed the main game. It's a high-level area with tough enemies and bosses, and bespoke loot to grab. It sounds awfully like a raid to me.
]]>HDR on PC hasn't improved much in 2019. Despite there being more HDR gaming monitors than ever before, the very best gaming monitors for HDR continue to be quite expensive compared to non-HDR monitors, and the situation around Windows 10 support for it is still a bit of a mess. However, provided you're willing to fight through all that, then the next step on your path to high dynamic range glory is to get an HDR compatible graphics card.
Below, you'll find a complete list of all the Nvidia and AMD graphics cards that have built-in support for HDR, as well as everything you need to know about getting one that also supports Nvidia and AMD's own HDR standards, G-Sync Ultimate and FreeSync 2. I've also put together a list of all the PC games that support HDR as well, so you know exactly which PC games you can start playing in high dynamic range.
]]>There's a bit in The Borderlands Show where creative director Paul Sage says he "wants to talk about terror", and for a second it sounds like he's going to launch into a philosophical exploration of fear. The Aristotelian notion of catharsis, perhaps, in which the experience of 'negative' emotion within fiction can cleanse or purify inner emotional trauma. Turns out he actually wants to talk about capital T Terror, a new status effect in the Borderlands 3 Bloody Harvest event that makes your aiming sway loads.
There's also a repeatable new mission with a skello-boss, one new legendary weapon, and loads of cosmetic gubbins.
]]>Of the one billion potential guns in Borderlands 3, few rise above the level of vendor trash. Some of the Legendary gear rises just a bit too high, Gearbox say, so they've stomped it down a bit and buffed others to reach "an acceptable medium". Which seems a bit of a shame. If Borderlands is a wacky game of reckless silly gunmurder, as Gearbox pretend, why not buff everything to the highest level of daftness? Cowards. It's a cooperative game, not a competitive one, COWARDS.
]]>Borderlands is certainly a more generous ten-year-old than I ever was. While I was off doing laser tag with some nerds, Borderlands 3 is celebrating a decade of existence by giving away heaps of loot, legendaries and cold hard cash on a weekly basis. Show Me The Eridium, the third weekly birthday event, is dropping cash fast and hard. With prices slashed across sharp outfits and sharper weaponry, it's time for an interstellar shopping spree.
]]>10 years of Borderlands, is it? A whole decade since four cel-shaded bounty hunters hopped off a bus and murdered their way across a planet to the whiny twangs of Cage The Elephant? Blimey, where does the time go? Well before Destiny, Borderlands married Diablo's gear grind with run n' gun blasting in an open-world romp, kicking off a generation of shooting bloody numbers out of heads. To celebrate a decade of cartoon carnage, the next five weeks of Borderlands 3 will crank things up to 11, starting with a week of better boss loot drops.
]]>Remember Tales From The Borderlands? Quite nice, that. Way back when, Telltale took Gearbox's blockbuster and ditched the rubbish bits (most of the memes, all of the shooting) and made quite a brilliant little story. Now, we all know what happened to Telltale - so it was refreshing news when it appeared at least one Tales character would be returning in Borderlands 3, Troy Baker's leading lad Rhys.
But while Rhys returned, Baker did not. Now the prolific voice actor claims Gearbox's anti-union policies were behind his failure to return to the Borderlands.
]]>If you’re one of the many people out there playing Borderlands 3, and there are a lot of you it seems, then you might also be suffering the terrible affliction of frame drops. My co-op BFF was, and it really messed up his game when aiming down his sights. There were hotfixes and settings tweaks, but a proper fix just launched, so it looks like Gearbox’s first patch took down at least one mini-boss.
]]>With so many collectibles in the worlds of Borderlands 3, it can get a little daunting to try and find all of them. Some of the most elusive are the Typhon Logs and Drop Pods, Eridian Writings, and the Echo Logs that are littered throughout the game in most of the regions. We have found all of them and poped them on maps.
]]>Have you ever stared at a rather desirable rare, epic, or even a legendary item in Borderlands 3, then sighed in despair when you realise that you'll have to throw something away just to pick it up? Well fret no more dear adventurer, for that is what the Borderlands 3 Lost Loot machine is here for. Your days of leaving valuable treasure behind are almost at an end!
]]>While playing Borderlands 3, there may have come a point where you asked yourself, "When am I going to unlock Artifacts?". Our Borderlands 3 Legendary Artifacts guide has all the answers and more, including how to get more artifacts to augment your character, and what each of the Legendary Artifacts does.
]]>Borderlands 3 may have been 2K's fastest selling game in the history of forever, but it sure hasn't been very quick about fixing its various performance problems over on PC. While last week's hotfix patch squashed a couple of performance-related issues, a proper solution for getting rid of things like stuttering and its DX12 load time problems has yet to materialise. Still, while we're waiting for Gearbox to finish putting together the game's next big patch, here's how to get the best Borderlands 3 performance for the time being.
Below you'll find the best settings for getting the most from Borderlands 3 on PC, and I've also been testing Borderlands 3's performance in both DX11 and its DX12 beta mode to see if there's actually any benefit to switching which version of DirectX it runs on. Last but not least, I've had a look at what AMD's image sharpening FidelityFX tech brings to the table as well.
]]>If you've been playing Borderlands 3 over the past couple of weeks, you'll no doubt have come across hundreds, if not thousands, of its supposed billion different gun types. Indeed, so far I've seen shotguns that can fire tiny little turrets on legs, rifles that turn into bouncy grenades once I've emptied the magazine, and sniper rifles whose bullets magically boomerang back into my ammo reserves if they hit a shield.
They also come in all sorts of outlandish shapes and sizes and have ludicrous names, from the red and silver jaws of my Super Ten Gallon to the rainbow-coloured eyesore that is my Kemik Dayummed Skeksil. Their designs are so out there, in fact, that if you squint a bit, they aren't actually that dissimilar from some of today's best graphics cards - and until some poor soul eventually catalogues all billion of those Borderlands 3 weapons, who's to say that some of them aren't modelled on actual graphics cards? Because to be honest, if I saw the seven GPUs I've listed below turn up as legit Borderlands 3 weapons, I wouldn't bat an eyelid.
]]>Thanks to various life events, illnesses, and an awesome TV show called The Magicians, I’ve barely played Borderlands 3. I’m still in the opening area while my co-op buddy is off looting things I can only dream of. The real horror here isn’t Bloody Harvest, the upcoming Haloween update that I've been tasked to write about. It's the FOMO I’m feeling as life goes on without me.
]]>If you've been bumming about Borderlands 3 with a handful of stuttering frames to your name, I have some underwhelming news. Developers Gearbox have released a hotfix that "does not include issues that the community is immediately concerned with", along with a statement to say they're working on those. They've also posted a list of (possibly) helpful tips to help with framerates and deal with saves if they're still not working after Monday's save-specific hotfix. (Psst. Just turn cloud saves off.)
]]>Twenty hours into Borderlands 3, in the jungle-drowned innards of a crashed starship, Moze finally opened up. Until that point, we only knew she was a war lass with a big mech. During a bit of scripted mission patter about awkward names, however, she revealed she was born Moserah Hayussinian Yan-Lun al-Amir Andreyevna, and we thought we were going to learn another precious fact about her.
Alas, she continued as far as “but” before she was interrupted. By a vulgar AI in the body of a teddy bear, that honked out “aw crap, more robots,” in a voice like an NYC rapper by way of Peter Griffin. And indeed, there were more robots. We had crossed the invisible line triggering their arrival, and the bear’s exclamation of dismay had to override Moze’s life story. Oh well.
]]>Gearbox Software are back for more goofy looty-shooty action in Borderlands 3, released at the stroke of midnight like a spirit conjured from Hell. Once again we'll be shooting through baddies in a wacky sci-fi world where weird and wonderful guns burst out their guts. We don't have a review for you yet because 2K's UK PR people apparently only gave advance access to a handful of #influencers, but I feel quietly confident that will shake out as "It's Borderlands."
]]>With Borderlands 3 arriving on Friday, 2K have tried to lay claim to this whole week by debuting the launch trailer today. It's an audacious move but one I'll allow because it digs up an early Queen banger and I'm grateful for the reminder.
I am also posting this to point out that one thing which won't be early is our review. It seems only American media have received early access to the game, so at launch we'll be swamped with reviews sorely deficient in the letter "U" and too abundant in "fanny packs". Going on about "filling your fanny pack with colorful loot." Don't you dare write that, Americans.
]]>Like these two fellows in the image above, or rather a man and his apparition, you're probably sitting back with a cold brew wondering when you'll be able to play Borderlands 3. Not only that, but you'll be wanting to know if you can even run the game or if you need to make a few modifications to your gaming rig. Fear not, weary traveller, we managed to capture Claptrap and somehow managed to get the information out of him.
]]>Epic have long sold Fortnite as an advertising platform through crossover events, but the latest stands out from prior crossovers by advertising another video game. The FortniteXMayhem event is now live, turning a corner of the map into a Borderlands 3 cartoon dustland. Advertising for another game is quite odd, with previous branded events being more for the likes of John Wick 3, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, Nike Jordan shoes, and dad-friendly musicians Weezer. But Borderlands 3 is an Epic Games Store exclusive so there is #synergy here - especially with bonus Fortnite clobber on offer if you buy Borderlands 3 from Epic.
]]>It's amazing how quickly you get back into a routine, even when you've been out of it a while. I got to play a bit of the Proving Grounds, one of Borderlands 3's endgame challenges where you run a timed gauntlet and try to survive waves of high-level enemies and/or kill them efficiently. It was like putting on a big explodey coat. Which is not necessarily what you want in a coat, but it tracks because some of the bigger, louder weapons do a lot of splash damage.
Avowed fans of Gearbox's first-person looter shooter may feel like they've been waiting a while for Borderlands 3, especially in a word full of annual releases. But Paul Sage, the creative director, explained to me that early work began on Borderlands 3 four years ago, before he even arrived at the studio. It has been in what he called "hardcore development" for about three years now.
]]>Google held another one of their Stadia Connect conferences today, and this one was meant to be all about what games you'll be playing in the "scary" cloud come November. Sure enough, there were new Stadia games aplenty announced this evening, with the biggest addition being Cyberpunk 2077.
To help keep track of them all, here's a list of every Google Stadia game confirmed so far, as well as which games are coming at launch, which ones will be arriving a little bit later, and which games you'll only be able to play by subscribing to one of the special Stadia publisher subscriptions.
]]>Borderlands 3 publishers 2K Games have admitted they sent private investigators to a YouTuber's home for a friendly chat. 2K say it's part of a ten-month investigation into YouTuber "SupMatto" for leaking "confidential information" and "infringing [their] copyright" by sharing unannounced details about Gearbox's FPS-RPG.
To be clear: SupMatto is not accused of leaking the actual game for people to play, only screenshots and snippets of information not yet revealed by the game's multimillion-dollar marketing campaign. That surely merits the not-remotely-intimidating tactic of sending hired goons to his door.
]]>I've already played a bit of Borderlands 3, back at E3 in June. It's a lot like Borderlands 2, only with bumslides and multiple planets. If the borders Borderlands has borne so far are yet to bore, then you will probably like this. You will probably also like Zane, a lovable Irish rogue with holographic decoys and deployable shields. Look, he's so lovable he's got his very own trailer.
]]>Borderlands 3 is on the way, and developers Gearbox really want everyone to know, so they've launched one final piece of epilogue story DLC for enduringly popular looter-shooter Borderlands 2. Commander Lilith And The Fight For Sanctuary is free until July 8th brings the cast back together (including folks from Tales From The Borderlands) for one last fight. They've also slashed the price on Borderlands: The Handsome Collection (Containing Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel and all their DLC) to under a fiver. Below, a trailer for the new stuff, featuring a gun that shoots exploding unicorns.
]]>This is a weird preview to write, because I'm about to describe a game you can already vividly imagine. Borderlands 3 is a shoot 'n' loot about tearing through wacky enemies using outlandish weapons and abilities. From the half hour I've played at E3, it's a very good one, and a subtle improvement over boundary grounds 1 and 2. Is that enough? Maybe.
]]>In case you're running low on good feels, this news packs a healthy dose: In the last week, two players got their dying wishes answered thanks to the help of Reddit. In one of those too-rare instances of the internet being a pretty ok place, users rallied and now a 26-year-old cancer patient will get his hands on Borderlands 3 ahead of its September release. Another campaign secured an early copy of Total War: Three Kingdoms, due to come out later this week, for a player diagnosed with leukemia before he passed away Sunday.
]]>Claptrap voice actor David Eddings is not returning to voice the irritating robot in Borderlands 3, and the reasons behind this have become a point of public contention/disagreement/agitation between Eddings and Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford on Twitter. That's how private business dealings go these days. Eddings spoke unfunny jokes for the robot at Gearbox, where his main job was in business development, but he left Gearbox in 2017 so getting him back would involve payment. And here the disagreement begins, with Eddings and Pitchford indirectly sniping at each other, which spiralled into Eddings claiming Pitchford had assaulted him.
]]>The Epic Games Store is no longer the only place to buy its exclusives, as the promised partnership with the Humble Store has begun. You can now buy Epic keys for Metro Exodus and Dangerous Driving from Humble, as well as pre-order Borderlands 3 (you know better than to pre-order, of course). These still run through the Epic Games Launcher on an Epic account, so it's not a huge change, but this does mean they benefit from the wee discount of Humble subscriptions and might be in sales more often.
]]>Gearbox fully unveiled Borderlands 3 during a livestreamed event earlier today with an hour of largely-uncut co-op footage, showing off a brighter and more colourful sequel than I was expecting. Combat is more mobile, weapons have alt-fire modes, bosses look more interesting and players can now leave the dusty wastes of Pandora to go shooting and looting on other planets. You can see the full presentation below, and they're setting streamers loose on the game now for three hours of freeform play, so Twitch will be flooded with footage later today.
]]>Steam’s updated approach to review bombing, which prevents “off topic” reviews from counting towards a game’s overall score, has kicked in for the Borderlands series. It seems to be the first time that the (optional) filter has been applied by Steam, after users flooded the series’ reviews following the announcement that Borderlands 3 will be a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store.
Viewing the games with the option turned on puts a little asterisk next to the mark of how positive the game is, which leads to a note that reads: “Period(s) of off-topic review activity detected. Excluded from the Review Score, based on your preferences.” It doesn’t seem to actually hide those reviews, however.
]]>Following last week's announcement of Borderlands 3, publishers 2K today blasted a new trailer which does seem to actually contain several seconds of the game being played in there somewhere. They also confirmed the leaked release date of September 13, as well as a details about the game. In short, it's more of the usual looter-shooter action but on new planets with new characters and with guns that grow legs and chase enemies. And yes, it will initially be exclusive to the Epic Games Store.
]]>April Fools silliness, or just a foolish slip-up? Hard to tell, but a message went out from Gearbox's official Borderlands 3 twitter account earlier that was swiftly deleted. "Mayhem is Coming September 13. Pre-order now for the Gold Weapon Skins Pack!" says the tweet, now archived on The Wayback Machine, so you can verify for yourself. Also tweeted was a new video containing the Epic Store logo in the bottom-left corner. It was captured by "Wario64" and embedded below. While not confirmation of exclusivity, it seems likely that the over-the-top loot n' shooter is headed to the new storefront.
]]>Gearbox Software are, as expected, headed back to a beat-up alien planet for more looting and shooting in Borderlands 3. They announced their third game in the FPS action-RPG series, which has also seen a prequel and spin-off from other developers, at PAX East today with a flashy trailer. A trailer which looked like heck during the big announcement presentation due to technical difficulties. Though the technical difficulties were more exciting than the slow card magic trick. Oh dear. But the handy-dandy YouTube version of the announcement trailer works just fine so hey look come and see.
]]>It seems Gearbox Software are winding up to announce Borderlands 3, or a cooperative looter-shooter which is effectively Borderlands 3, later this month. They've posted an unsubtle tweet with an unsettling ? emoji and a cartoony, Borderlands-lookin' image saying "March 28." What about March 28? Oh, nothing. Perhaps they're simply celebrating the feast day of Saint Guntram, which is the sort of name Gearbox would go wild for. All we know is that this involves someone named Boston Ma. She sounds formidable.
]]>Gearbox will be turning its attention to Borderlands 3* once the team has finished off work on their upcoming team co-op shooter Battleborn [official site] and its DLC.
I thiiiiiink Borderlands 3 had already been confirmed in a bunch of "yeah, in the future" and "we want to" ways but this time there was mention of actual project staff by Gearbox's CEO Randy Pitchford and that there will likely be little references to the game in Battleborn DLC so it's more concrete as information goes…
