Every weekend, indie devs show off current work on Twitter's #screenshotsaturday tag. And every Monday, I bring you a selection of these snaps and clips. This week, my eye has been caught by automotive horror, great goop technology, flirting with Hercule Poirot, and the most beautiful little cat.
]]>If you took your driving test in Silent Hill, then Beware would be an accurate representation of how you failed. The sur-drive-al horror game is a three-point turn of dread. A lone driver drifts through a foggy night while cars and trucks try to force you off the road. It's been in development since 2014, but if you’re a one-man development team building a map that’s 144km², it’s going to be a long and lonely drive. Happily, there's now a new trailer for it, so let’s see how it’s coming along, shall we?
]]>Driving is not relaxing for me. I failed my driving test nine times before passing, so statistically-speaking, only one in ten driving instructors think I should be out on the roads. I don’t like those odds, and I imagine pedestrians don’t either. When you’ve failed your driving test so prolifically the basic idea of sitting behind the wheel is scary enough without a car of ambiguous meat monsters trying to ram you off the road. But here I am, playing Beware, a survival horror game set inside a single vehicle.
]]>You know that feeling of being really excited that a survival game coming out but that also means that you have to play that survival game and now you can taste acid in the back of your throat along with a little bit of the Caesar salad you had for lunch? Well. That's where we are. And I'm certainly thrilled about the whole ordeal, because Beware -- the indie survival horror driving experience -- is something I've had my eye on for quite a while. Now, with our small glimpses of development in the rear-view, I can finally accelerate(? eh.) into a full demo. So park yourself-- you know what, I'm not going to do this. You don't want it, I don't want it. Let's reverse.
