Here's one for the space-goggles crowd to jump on. Croteam, the plucky studio behind the Serious Sam series and the lovely philoso-puzzler The Talos Principle, are running a 26th anniversary Steam sale for the next two days. While offering good deals across the board, the most surprising thing is a bundle of all their virtual reality games, currently going for 92% off its usual price. A cheap and cheerful way to pad your library if you're skint after spending hundreds of quid on exotic headgear. Below, the must-haves of this sale.

'If it ain't broke, don't fix it' is a decent enough motto to live by. Crackshell would most likely agree, having found a respectable degree of success with Gauntlet-esque co-op arcade dungeon crawler Hammerwatch, and more Smash TV-ish licensed spinoff Serious Sam's Bogus Detour.

While their little trip through techno-magical Egypt with Serious Sam was an amusing enough romp, they're back doing what they know and love, with a bit of a modern procedurally generated twist. Heroes of Hammerwatch bills itself as a rogue-like spin on the original, and it's out today.

Devolver Digital and Croteam are continuing their experiments in throwing the Serious Sam name at small teams on condition that the resultant game in some way includes: 1) sand; 2) big guns; 3) screaming shirtless men with bombs for hands. This has previously given us such games as the gun-stacking side-scroller Double D and turn-based RPG The Random Encounter. Now Crackshell, the makers of Hammerwatch, have expanded that odd lineup with Serious Sam's Bogus Detour [has launched]. It's a top-down shooter with four-player online co-op and, of course, sand, big guns, and screaming shirtless men with bombs for hands.

Croatian developers Croteam have proven themselves a developer of two extremes. For many years they were about dumbfest shooter fun Serious Sam and Serious Sam alone, and then out of absolutely nowhere produced the cerebral and utterly brilliant The Talos Principle. Since then we've had a splendid expansion for Talos and a frankly peculiar number of Serious Sam VR games. Now comes Serious Sam's Bogus Detour [official site], a rather brilliantly titled game resulting from a team-up with indie devs Crackshell, that fits in neither extreme, despite being entrenched in the IP of their most famous protagonist. A top-down twin-stick action game that eschews all the modern stylings of your Hotline Miamis in favour of something much more madcap, frenzied and enormous.

Today on Oh Hey I Forgot This Was Being Made, Cool, Thanks for the Reminder, we have Serious Sam's Bogus Detour [official site]. That's the mega-bang top-down shooter with online co-op from the makers of Hammerwatch, which is a good thing for a game to be. And yup, it looks like it could be a lark in a new trailer released by Devolver Digital to let us know that the game's coming some time early this summer. I look forward to shooting these shots with my shootpals.

Do you remember Hammerwatch? It was a fantasy-themed hack and slash that survived the greenlight and released to great reception back in 2013. Developers Crackshell (formerly Transflash) have taken the same formula, applied abundant doses of ᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃᵃaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAA, and shook firmly.

What came out is Serious Sam's Bogus Detour [TIGSource thread] a frantic 2D shooter, all action and no philosophy, unlike its bigger brother. There is no planned release date, but there are plenty of videos and gifs to watch.
