Palworld developers Pocketpair have revealed a new major update, which introduces "the largest and harshest" island in the survival game's history, together with new tower bosses and new pals. As for everything else… that's a secret, but you can expect a "large amount of new content", and we've got a few images to speculate over.
]]>Palworld developers Pocketpair have finally revealed which patents Nintendo and the Pokémon Company are suing them about. It looks like they're focusing on the act of throwing capsular items to catch or release monsters, together with the usage of monsters as mounts.
If you've somehow yet to encounter Palworld, it's a bestselling survival game that takes hefty - some would say, scandalous - inspiration from Pokémon, with players poaching Pokésque critters using magic spheres, and deploying them as soldiers and minions.
]]>Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the Palwoods and hunt large, electric yellow animals of entirely original design whose names rhyme with "peekaboo", Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced that they're taking Palworld developers Pocketpair to court for "infringement of patent rights".
]]>Popular monster-enslaving sim Palworld has a big new update, which introduces the game's long-promised PvP multiplayer Arena together with a new island, new Pals, new Pal skills, a new Raid, new buildings and construction options, new open world activities and items - new everything, basically. The island is Sakurajima, a place of pink blossoms and red Tori gates which is ruled by the Moonflower faction from the security of their tower HQ. As for the Arena, where players can have their Pals duel for supremacy, you'll find it in the Dessicated Desert. Catch a glimpse of all the wanton Pokenot abuse in the below trailer.
]]>The studio behind Palworld never received any formal complaint or threat of legal action from Nintendo or The Pokémon Company despite widespread debate over the open-world ‘Pokémon with guns’ survival game earlier this year.
]]>The Steam Summer Sale is kicking off this week, say Valve, purveyors of fine games and thousands of crap ones too (don't worry, we help you tell the difference). The sale begins on Thursday June 27th and runs until July 11th. That's a full two weeks of sun and soulslikes, beach balls and beat 'em ups, paddling pools and puzzle games. I don't know any other objects associated with this mythological "summer" people talk about, I'm from Ireland. But I can tell you at least some of the games that'll be in the sale, according to some bargain-teasing by Valve.
]]>Palworld is getting a lot of new things! I’m going to write the names of these new things now. I really hope they mean something to you. I want you to have nice things. Here are the new things coming to Palworld: a new island. Some new Pals. A new level cap. A new arena. A new subspecies. A new raid. A new oil rig stronghold. A new faction and boss. Maybe some other, secret things? All this newness comes as part of the ‘Sakurajima’ update, which releases on June 27th, 2024.
]]>Palworld has teased four new beasts of burden for players to corral into their open world survival crafting sweatshops. The new pals are still unnamed but they appear to be the following: karate frog, confused peacock, dopey fungus, levitating sleeve creep. Within the confines of the arms manufacturing Pokélike, such creatures make sense. You can see them struggling to eke out an existence as a close personal friend of the player in the trailer below.
]]>Palworld, the viral survival game that stirred up controversy (and found plenty of success) on the back of being a Pokémon-a-like - with added guns and factory labour, mind - is now due to become the inspiration for its own generation of clones, according to the head of its developers.
]]>If you needed one more Pokémon comparison for Pokémon-with-guns survival game Palworld, you’re in luck! The viral monster-battling and -labouring game has teased a multiplayer arena mode arriving later this year, with more than a hint of Pokémon Stadium to it.
]]>Pocketpair have released a new Palworld update, Steam version v0.2.0.6, which introduces the monster-catching survival game's first Raid Boss, a gloating Gothy squid-lady by the name of Bellanoir. She'll be available to conjure by using slabs at new Summoning Altars. Be prepared for a tough fight, especially if you opt for the "extreme" version of the boss. Bellanoir can't be captured, but she does drop a Pal Egg on defeat.
This is a chunky update, with a bunch of new items and tweaks to the building system, Pal falling damage, shop prices, player drops on multiplayer servers, and the user interface - for example, you'll now see how many of a Pal you own when you aim a Palsphere at one. You can also now cancel a Pal's break simply by picking them up and throwing them at the worksite - truly, a scene from Dickens. All the new stuff is in addition to the usual bugfixes, fresh anti-cheating measures and quashing of exploits: no longer will you be able to massively increase your attack power while riding Pals under certain conditions.
]]>Pocketpair have popped up a trailer for Palworld's first new raid battle boss, Bellanoir, who is "coming soon" to the monster-catching survival game in a big old Palworld update that will also include some fixes and additional anti-cheating measures. First impressions: it's an evil Goth girl with a jellyfish where her legs should be.
]]>Palworld developers Pocketpair have announced a new Palworld Testing program that asks players of the wildly popular monster-catching survival game to help test future updates and provide feedback on the game, ahead of new content drops being released to the general public. Players can sign-up via a Google Form now if they wish, though Pocketpair stress that "the testing branch is not intended for free play or experiencing new content early, so we hope that only those of you genuinely interested in bug hunting and testing will apply." And presumably, those genuinely interested in also not being paid for their free QA support.
]]>There are 137 Pals in Pocketpair's monster-catching simulator Palworld, which might sound like plenty, but the serial Palworld player is an insatiable creature, always clamouring for new beasties to capture, pet and exploit, even as the developers encourage fans to play other games while they wait for the next Palworld update. If you've already bagged all the available Pals and are hungry for more, you might be interested in Palworld mod Breed Unreleased Pals, created by ShameIHaveNoFriends, which grants access to three animals who exist in the game's files but are not, strictly speaking, available to players.
]]>Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the Palwoods, Pocketpair have revealed a new Palworld update - Steam and Xbox patch v0.1.5.0. This is a larger overhaul, encompassing a juicy mixture of balance and technical tweaks that together make this spring's breakout survival game easier to play, less buggy and, dare I say, a little kinder, with various tweaks aimed at making life more liveable both for trainers and Pals. I have run my eye over the changelog at the bottom of this page and picked out a few highlights, like somebody fishing a stray banknote from the laundry.
]]>Palworld is stepping up its efforts against cheats and hackers in the coming weeks, with the developers of the hugely popular Pokémon-a-like survival game saying they are focusing on stamping out ne’er-do-wells on its official servers.
]]>If you told me at the start of the year that Palworld would break Steam records, I would've done a hearty "no no" chuckle. But here we are, with the survival game exceeding 19 million players and Pocketpair probably wondering how they managed such a feat. With its success has come the inevitable slew of impatient people saying the game's dead because it's not received updates fast enough, or folks saying it's lost a hefty percentage of its player base, and others saying its viewership numbers over on streaming services have plummeted. Palworld's community manager Bucky has gently reminded folks that not only is this discourse "lazy", but to play other games instead.

]]>The latest major Palworld update is live, fixing a range of crash and save data bugs while also addressing a glitch which saw your much-abused indentured munsters falling into an eternal slumber when assigned to a Pal breeding farm. I continue to wonder how much of Palworld is deliberate satire.
]]>As a monster-collecting, knowingly cynical, base-building survival game, Palworld is officially Not My Thing in at least three different ways. But I do like the Steam Deck, as well as feeling a sense of being vaguely useful. Thus, instead of moaning about holding down a button for 20 seconds to plant some berry seeds, I’ve tested how Palworld adapts to life on Valve’s handheld – and worked out which are the best settings to use with the Deck’s modest hardware.
]]>Want to know how to get Gunpowder in Palworld? Palworld became somewhat infamous upon its initial reveal for featuring guns, and while the thought of equipping your cuddly Pals with firearms might still seem excessive (or amusing, depending on your perspective), there's no doubt that Gunpowder is one of the most important crafting materials in the entire game. You'll need it if you want all those weapons glimpsed in the early Palworld trailers, from Assault Rifles to Rocket Launchers.

For your convenience, we've assembled a list of the best Pals in Palworld with the Transporting Skill, as well as where to capture them.

]]>Dig back far enough into the history of any word and you'll find something sinister. Take "cute". Nowadays it means pretty, lovable or charming, albeit perhaps with an undertone of mistrust or contempt, as in the phrase "that's a cute observation, Edwin". But the word originally evolved from "acute", which very broadly means sharp or intense. "Acute" was once a Middle English word for a short-lived fever - it's related to "ague", a word you've likely come across in a medieval fantasy RPG somewhere, which refers to fits of sweating and shivering. The word "cute", then, is secretly diseased, and so, perhaps, is the experience of cuteness. There's a psychological phenomenon called "cute aggression" which refers to the desire to physically envelop, dominate and even abuse the thing you find cute - "I just want to squeeze you till you pop".

]]>The greatest compliment I can give to Palworld is that it lights up my brain in the same way a modern Assassin's Creed game does. It taps into the same checklist clearing compulsion that saw me spend over 100 hours in both Odyssey's Ancient Greek archipelago and the Viking open world of Valhalla - only instead of chasing map icons that take you down weird sidequest rabbit holes that riff on Fenton the (sheep)dog, or gobbling up story events just so you can make googly eyes at every warm-blooded human in a ten mile radius, Palworld hooks you in with its enormous catalogue of base building tasks. Not catching the 100+ Pal monsters roaming around its mysterious islands, but crafting the perfect sweatshop to put them to work in. It's one of those, "I'll just add this furnace so I can craft some ingots that will let me make a cooking pot to level up my base, but wait, now I need some ore to make those ingots, and oh god, I've just spent seven hours doing not very much at all, have I?"

You'll need to catch some Ice element Pals if you want to have the chilliest base around. We've got the full rundown on all the Pals for the job, along with their Cooling levels and where to catch them.
]]>Looking for the best base Pals in Palworld? Building a strong base in Palworld is crucial if you want to have a healthy production of crafting materials. Luckily, Pals can be assigned to your base to work. The more you level up via Palbox missions, the more Pals you'll be allowed to allocate.

]]>We at the Electronic Wireless Show podcast have our finger on the beating pulse of current events, which is why we're going to talk about the accusations that are flying around Palworld, the new and extremely popular Pokémon-meets-Rust. Does it contain AI? Did it directly steal from Pokémon? Can The Pokémon Company sue? Probably not. But why does everyone care so damn much anyway? We give our vibes-based takes on the whole affair, which seems to be escalating every day (and will therefore presumably disappear soon).
]]>Want to know how to set up a dedicated server in Palworld? Palworld has already become a firm favourite for players who love creature capture games. The only thing better than playing Palworld, is playing it with friends. As such, knowing how to set up a dedicated server in Palworld is a useful tool to have.

]]>Looking for a Palworld type chart? In Palworld there are a total of 9 element types that are all strong or weak against one another. This means if you want to be successful in Palworld combat, you'll need to use a type chart to work out which Pals to bring with you in your team. With over 130 Pals in the game and only 5 slots available for your team at once, this is crucial information when planning encounters against bosses, alphas, lucky Pals and more.
Below, we've provided a type chart, explained all element strengths and weaknesses and included combat tips. We've also included a list of Pals that provide elemental buffs to other Pals in your team and the player's attacks. With this knowledge, you should be able to steamroll across the Palworld map, whatever your level.
]]>The august representatives of the Pokémon Company have descended from their hilltop PokéMansion, approached the hushed masses of PokéFans with their flaming Torchics and shocked Pichaku placards, and asked everybody to please, please, please, please, please stop yelling at them about Palworld potentially breaching Pokémon's copyright. Or at least, that's what it sounds like they're saying between the lines of a statement published a few hours ago, in which the Pokémon Company acknowledges messages sent by the concerned PokéFaithful about "another company's game released in January 2024".
]]>Looking for a complete Palworld Pals list? There are currently over 130 Pals in Palworld, each with different skills, proficiencies and element types. With more promised to release post-release, you'll need an up-to-date Pal list to reference if you're looking to complete the entire Paldeck.

To complete your Pal List and ensure you get one of every type, check out the complete list below. We update this list regularly.
]]>Searching for a complete Palworld mounts list? Palworld has a huge map that can take hours of progression to explore. With a mount, you can travel across the Palapagos Islands with ease from the back of a trustworthy Pal.
Several Pals act as mounts in Palworld, some of these specialise in ground traversal whilst others are either water or flying mounts that can jettison you across the map whilst also offering unique combat buffs.
Below, we've compiled a list of all mounts in Palworld, separated by type, location and the Technology Level required to unlock them. With this, you should be all set to explore, capture the best Pals in the game and reach the higher map levels in the process.
]]>As Palworld continues to set mad records on Steam, the players themselves (all 7m of them, man alive) also seem to be in a race to see just how fast they can break it. Case in point: over the weekend, it was discovered that humans, in addition to Pals, could also be stuffed into balls and set to work in your base camp, but now they've only gone and started capturing the in-game bosses, too, thanks to a surprisingly easy-to-achieve exploit involving my bestest of friends, the island police force.
]]>Want to know which are Palworld's fastest mounts? Travelling across the extensive map in Palworld is much easier once you get yourself one of the fastest mounts in the game.
Mounts fall into the following categories: flying, swimming, ground and gliding. Each is equipped to shepherd you across the continents and allow you to find new farming, exploration and base locations.
Below, we've ranked all mounts in Palworld based on their sprint speeds and even suggested which mounts are the best for early, mid and late-game players.
]]>Forthcoming Palworld updates will add PvP multiplayer arenas, raid bosses, Xbox feature improvements, Steam-Xbox crossplay, extra islands, server transfers, new Pals and new technologies, according to an early access roadmap just released by developers Pocketpair. The monster-catching survival sim continues to set concurrent play records on Steam, and Pocketpair are presently focussed on fixing bugs. Beyond that, though, the sky appears to be the limit, as you might expect of a game that shifted a million copies in eight hours. In particular, Pocketpair seem markedly more confident about the odds of adding PvP to the game, having downplayed the idea in interviews before release.
]]>Palworld, that survival game mashup, continues to grow in popularity. In the past 24 hours, its peak concurrent player count reached 1,864,421, the second highest of any game on Steam, ever. It took that spot from Counter-Strike 2 and the only game to reach higher is now PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, aka Plunkbat, aka PUBG.
]]>Wondering if you can move your base in Palworld? A few hours into Palworld and your base is bound to be a bustling hive of activity, with Pals running to and fro and a whole lot of resource harvesting going on. But if you've built your base near the starting area on the Plateau of Beginnings, things might get a little crowded before long.
As you progress further into the wilds of the Palpagos Islands, you may run into numerous plots of land suitable for a new home of operations. Here's everything you need to know about moving your base in Palworld, including some tips on making the move as smooth as possible.
]]>A new update for the PC Game Pass and Xbox versions of Palworld has fixed some of its many, many known issues today, but those hoping for some fixes to its online multiplayer options will sadly have to wait a little longer. Currently, those playing on Game Pass still don't have the ability to join or create dedicated servers for up to 32-player multiplayer like their mates on Steam can. Instead, they remain limited to just 2-4-player co-op via the use of friend codes, meaning that Game Pass players aren't having quite the same experience as their Steam counterparts.
]]>Want to know how to get Pal Fluids in Palworld? Pal Fluids are a useful (and perhaps mildly disturbing) resource that you'll need to gather in Palworld, especially if you want to keep your base Pals relaxed with a nice Hot Spring. Literally described as "body fluids taken from a Pal," Pal Fluids are harvested and utilised for their "high viscosity."
Putting aside the dark question of exactly what these fluids are, it's important to start farming water Pals if you want to stockpile Pal Fluids as soon as possible. We've listed where you'll find the Pals who regularly drop Pal Fluids below, as well as a few strategies for how to get Pal Fluids in Palworld's early game.
]]>Wondering how to get the Grappling Gun in Palworld? The Grappling Gun is a piece of equipment you can craft in Palworld to make traversal easier. The Grappling Gun essentially tethers itself to nearby terrain and launches the player into the air.
As such, it's a useful crafting recipe to unlock early on in the game, especially if you haven't caught any mount Pals yet to make traversal speedier. To learn how to unlock the Grappling Gun in Palword and how to get the ingredients needed to craft it, see below.
]]>I didn't think it was possible for Palworld's animal sweatshop-style base building to get even more bleak and depressing than it already was, but it turns out I was wrong. Last night, I reached a part of the game's Technology tree that sent an actual shiver down my spine, it was that awful and morbid. No, it wasn't the option to arm my leaf monkey with an assault rifle, or my green squirrels with machine guns - though they were on the same tech branch. Nope, this one was even more sinister, and I absolutely refuse to unlock it.
]]>If the accusations of Palworld peeking at Pokémon’s homework for its catchable monster designs weren’t already rife enough, a modder has decided to take the Garth Marenghi approach and remove any possible question by turning Palworld’s Pokémon-a-likes into just straight-up Pokémon.
]]>Pocketpair's monster-collecting survival game Palworld has rekindled the eternal debate over what exactly constitutes a breach of copyright. While the game's mechanics are more reminiscent of Ark: Survival Evolved and other tree-punching, template-arranging wilderness sims, its monsters owe obvious debts to Nintendo and Game Freaks' Pokémon games.
The developers have something of a track record on this front, with their older early access release Craftopia freely stirring in nods to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. But what separates copyright infringement from a flagrant, but perfectly legal rip-off? Given that a lot of people are making the case for Palworld being copyright theft online, I thought it might be useful to seek insight from (ominous roll of thunder) an actual lawyer.
]]>Want to know how to get Leather in Palworld? Leather is an important material in Palworld, needed to make armor, saddles for Pal mounts and more. As such, it's worthwhile knowing where the best Leather farming spots are and how to get it ahead of time.
Below, we've outlined the best ways to get Leather with a full list of all Pals that drop it when defeated or caught. We've also included a list of crafting recipes that require Leather to make and more.
]]>Wondering how to get High Quality Pal Oil in Palworld? High Quality Pal Oil is a crafting material in Palworld, most commonly used to make Polymer. In turn, this is a vital ingredient used to make some of the best weapons in the game such as the Assault Rifle and Rocket Launcher.
High Quality Pal Oil is also used for structural recipes, saddles for some Pal mounts and several Pal-specific weapons, including Grizzbolt's Minigun and the Mossanda Grenade Launcher.
So if you're looking to upgrade your firepower, you'll need to farm High Quality Pal Oil. Below, we've listed all Pals that drop High Quality Pal Oil, all oil crafting recipes and the best ways to farm High Quality Pal Oil in the game.
]]>I'm still working my way through the grim realities of Steam mega-hit Palworld, but as developers Pocketpair begin working through their 50,000-strong pile of bug reports, I'd hazard to add one more to the pile: please, something must be done about this game's ruthless police force, who are so dogged in their pursuit of evildoers that they literally will not stop chasing you until you've been shot dead.
]]>Wondering how to unlock Ancient Technology in Palworld? Ancient Technology Points are a way to get your hands on Ancient crafting recipes in Palworld. These recipes are for things like the Egg Incubator, Grappling Gun, Sphere Launcher and more quality-of-life items.
As such, knowing how to get Ancient Technology Points is a vital component of gameplay. Once you unlock these recipes, you'll also need Ancient Civilization Parts to make most of the items. Below, we've listed how you can get both Ancient Technology Points and Ancient Civilization Parts as well as some of the more important crafting recipes in the game.
]]>Looking to unlock the Palworld Egg Incubator? The Egg Incubator is one of many Ancient Technology recipes in Palworld that can be used to hatch the numerous collectable Eggs you'll find throughout the world.
Below, we've detailed how to get the Egg Incubator, including the materials you'll need to craft it and how to get the Ancient Technology Points to unlock the recipe for it in your Technology menu. We've also listed all possible types of Eggs, all Egg locations and how you can speed up the hatching process with the right conditions.
]]>When I innocently went on holiday on Thursday evening, Palworld was that flagrant cash-in survival game where you can make Pokemon - sorry, Pals - shoot guns and work on an assembly line. As of this morning, it's among the most-played games in the world, one of just six to exceed one million concurrent players on Steam. Right now, it's doing almost twice the numbers of Steam's usual chart-topper Counter-Strike 2. We have entered the Pal Age, it seems - but how long will the feeding frenzy last? How much is owing to it releasing during the quiet time of year with a meme-ish premise, while capitalising on pent-up demand for a proper PC version of Nintendo's monster-catching series? Much will depend, I think, on how quickly developers Pocketpair can update it and stay ahead of the usual early access game avalanche of community requests and complaints.
]]>Looking for Palworld tips for beginners? Palworld is a creature capture game full of colourful 'Pals'. Elemental creatures that can form a team and help you in combat or can be assigned to work at your base and help produce crafting materials.
As you expand your base and fight to complete the full Paldeck, you'll face new survival challenges. Join us as we go through the crucial top tips for beginners that will help you in your first few hours of Palworld and beyond.
]]>For a game that's been repeatedly described as "Pokémon with machineguns", the first thing that strikes me about Palworld is just how un-Pokémon-like it actually is. To its credit, it does do quite a good Pokémon Legends: Arceus impression when you first step out on its big, Breath Of The Wild-style hilltop and take in the open world vista of its monster-stuffed starting continent. But if the opening moments of washing up on the island in nothing but your very scantily clad undies hadn't already given it away (seriously, why do shipwrecks always destroy the clothes you had on, but not your smalls underneath?), then the ream of tutorial prompts about punching trees to get more wood, building bases, putting pals to work on said bases, and the endless parade of crafting technologies you'll need to unlock to actually do anything on this godforsaken rock will quickly pull the wool clear away from your hopeful little face.
For underneath the cute round eyes of its cover stars, Palworld is really a survival game wearing the dead skin suits of Game Freak's catch 'em all monster friends. In a lot of cases, those skin suits are quite literal, such are the blatant palette swaps and so-close-to-copyright-infringement-I-can't-believe-Nintendo's-lawyers-haven't-shut-this-down-years-ago rip-off creatures on display here. For that reason alone, Palworld can feel about as soulless and cynical as it comes. But that's not the worst of it. Even aside from all the survival gubbins, base building and sweatshop automation practices shoved down your throat, Palworld is just an awful example of monster-catching games in general. If it's a Pokémon game on PC you're after, go and play Cassette Beasts. Go and play Coromon, TemTem, or Monster Sanctuary. Anything but this.
]]>Palworld was obviously destined for success the moment a million games journalists and Twitter users wrote “Pokémon with machine guns”. (Acceptable alternate nicknames include “Eevees with uzis” and “Abras who’ll stab-ya”.) Having finally launched into Early Access on Steam and Game Pass this week, that prophecy has rung true as the monster-catching survival game has caught (ha, ha) so many players that its servers are struggling to handle the load.
]]>Looking for a Pal tier list to rank the best Pals in Palworld? As you journey through Palworld, you'll come across Pals of different elements with varying Partner Skills which determine how strong they are in combat.
With so many to choose from, a Pal list that is ever-expanding, and only a limited amount of space on your team, it can be hard prioritising which to recruit. Luckily, we've organised all Pals into a tier list below and then went through our top ten essential picks. Featured are the best Pals for combat, the best base Pals, mounts and more.
]]>Looking for the best starter Pals in Palworld? Palworld is a creature capture game where you collect 'Pals', colourful creatures with different elemental abilities in a similar fashion to Pokemon. Pals can either help you in combat to secure new, rarer Pals, or can work at your base farming, mining and gathering materials.
As such, collecting the most efficient Pals early on in your playthrough is an important step to establish your base. For optimal production and the best starting combat, utility and mount Pals, see our full list below. We'll also tell you how to catch them, how best to utilise their skills and where you can find them.
]]>The odd mashup of Pokémon-like monsters, crafting, and machineguns, has made each new trailer for Palworld a delight over the past couple of years. Now it's taking the bold step of moving beyond meme by becoming a playable video game, when it launches on January 19th.
]]>Palworld is comfortably summarised as 'Pokémon with guns', thanks to its too-familiar character designs and third-person machinegun combat. It's got more going on than that, though. It's also Pokémon with base building, Pokémon with sweat shops, Pokémon with corpse piles.
A new developer tutorial explains how you can 'use Pals efficiently' by putting them to work for you.
]]>We've been writing about Palworld for a couple of years, but soon we'll be able to play its unusual combination of Pokémon-like creature taming with machinegun combat. There's a new trailer below that reveals it'll launch in early access in January 2024.
]]>Palworld has a new trailer. If you've seen Palworld's previous two trailers, those words alone should send you rushing below to see what new absurdity is on show. For the uninitiated: Palworld is a game in which you can catch off-brand Pokémon, put them to work in a sweatshop producing guns, and then do battle with these Nopémon by your side and and an assault rifle in your hands.
Watch the trailer, you'll see.
