Slavic Magic and Hooded Horse have released a new Manor Lords update, adding a couple of maps, the ability to construct bridges, and a bevy of smaller features to an already quite robust medieval city builder.
]]>Manor Lords developer Greg Styczeń, aka Slavic Magic, has emerged from his keep with news of a forthcoming patch for the medieval city builder. It'll add new maps, building upgrades and reworks for various economic systems.
The announcement post is mostly image-based, in keeping with the classic saying that "a picture is worth a thousand words, as long as the words in question are mostly synonyms for 'hut', 'mud', 'tree' and 'mountain'". Fortunately, Styczeń threw in a few captions to light the way.
]]>Indie publisher Hooded Horse have been on a roll of late, publishing wonderful strategy games like Manor Lords, Against The Storm and Cataclismo. Good news, then, that they're currently running a publisher sale over on Steam where those games and many others in their library are discounted.
]]>I’m calling it now. When, in a “few weeks” according to the developer, fishing ponds come to strategy builder Manor Lords, it will take approximately 45 minutes for some enterprising medieval fintech tinkerer to utterly bork the entire economy, and it will be glorious. What will begin as brave new world of lean protein and previously unseen Omega 3 levels will soon devolve into hordes of beleaguered oxen hauling overburdened carts full of rotting fish carcasses, as hyperinflation looms.
]]>If you're a strategy game aficionado who has yet to cast a monocled eye over Hooded Horse's catalogue, 1) which map hexagon have you been skulking under? And 2) you're in for a treat. Founded in 2019 with the signing of Terra Invicta, and led by Dallas, Texas-based chief executive officer Tim Bender and chief financial officer Snow Rui, Hooded Horse have spent the past five years grabbing up original strategy games and strategy RPGs like a smaller civ quietly steamrolling bandit fiefdoms, while larger empires like Creative Assembly and Paradox Interactive bleed each other white in the centre.
]]>The publishers of recent city builder sensation Manor Lords and elder survival sim juggernaut The Long Dark are having a mostly gentlepersonly skirmish about how many significant updates a game should have in early access, and the potential consequences in terms of both developer overwork and players losing interest.
]]>The Steam Summer Sale is kicking off this week, say Valve, purveyors of fine games and thousands of crap ones too (don't worry, we help you tell the difference). The sale begins on Thursday June 27th and runs until July 11th. That's a full two weeks of sun and soulslikes, beach balls and beat 'em ups, paddling pools and puzzle games. I don't know any other objects associated with this mythological "summer" people talk about, I'm from Ireland. But I can tell you at least some of the games that'll be in the sale, according to some bargain-teasing by Valve.
]]>The story of Manor Lords’ soundtrack begins, as all inspiring tales do, with hunched-over late-night doom scrolling. It was pre-covid, and Pressure Cooker Studios’ composer Daniel Caleb was flicking through reddit posts when a trailer cut through the glare. He’d never heard of Manor Lords before. It looked like a new IP, but already had a huge Reddit following. Caleb loved what he saw. At that point, Pressure Cooker mainly worked on film scores, but both Caleb and fellow composer Elben Schutte had always wanted to eventually move on to bringing their storytelling from cinema to games. Even more so than film, games were the passion. Manor Lords would be perfect for them.
]]>Harken to me, serfs! There's a big new patch for Manor Lords now available in beta testing for all players. Developer Greg Styczeń has blogged about it in depth. Yes, this is one of those update changelogs, the ones that keep on scrolling with hypnotic insistence till at last you tear your eyes away and look around and oh hell, it's night and why am I standing over this altar, holding a skewered doll?
]]>Looking for the best Manor Lords mods? While the modding scene for Manor Lords might still be in its infancy, there are already key mods out there that can boost a fledgling ruler's quality of life. Seeing as how Manor Lords is still an Early Access title, and one that doesn't always explain all of its intricacies, these mods go a long way towards making a player's time with the game a bit easier, doing little things like increasing the storage capacity of buildings to letting you recruit more soldiers.
In this guide to the best mods for Manor Lords, we've listed five rock solid mods that will make your city-building experience all the better.
]]>Want to get Horses in Manor Lords? When it comes to beasts of burden in Manor Lords, Horses have a relatively minor but important role to play in your growing settlement. ]]>Looking for some tips and tricks to win battles in Manor Lords? Aside from serving as a highly detailed medieval city-builder, Manor Lords brings Total War-style combat to the fray, letting you direct different units in fights against invaders, rival armies, and all other forces that might threaten your growing town. Prevailing over these battles can be a tricky affair, especially for folks more accustomed to city-building games that don't involve legions clashing against each other.
Luckily, there are a few general strategies that you can keep in mind to turn the tides in your favour. In this guide, we'll outline 8 combat tips for Manor Lords to help you reign victorious.
]]>Want to know the best units for your army in Manor Lords? One of the interesting inclusions that Manor Lords brings to the city-building genre is wargame-style combat. We've taken a look at the various combatants that the game presents you with and weeded out the strong fellas from the riff-raff. In this guide to the best units in Manor Lords, we'll explain which fighters are best for melee combat and ranged attacks.
]]>Over the past while a few games have had post-launch patches, the exemplars being Starfield and Stardew valley, which have post-launch patches of different kinds and for different reasons. We take some time on the Electronic Wireless Show podcast to talk about this patch of patches, and what it was like in the good ol' days, where a broken game came out and stayed broken, gosh darn it!
Nate isn't here today, which means I can make fun of him for owning fish, or whatever it is he does, but in his stead James steps up with an RGB lighting-themed game where I have to guess what accessories people stuck lights on to turn into gamer accessories. This is because Razer stuck RGB lights on a pandemic mask and are in trouble over it now. Naughty Razer. Plus, we talk about the games we're playing right now, and dish you up some juicy recommendations at the end of the show.
]]>Trying to figure out how Retinues work in Manor Lords? There are a few different types of fighting units in Manor Lords, and when you're in need of professional soldiers to defend your town, you need a Retinue. These fighting fellows boast better stats than the peasants who enlist in your Militia, and they're a constant presence as opposed to Mercenaries, who cost a fair bit of coin and leave your settlement when disbanded. You can even customise the appearance of your Retinue to a degree far greater than any other units in the game.
In this guide to how to recruit and increase Retinue in Manor Lords, we'll break down what you need to know to bring these soldiers into your settlement and boost their numbers.
]]>Want to move your buildings in Manor Lords? Yes, you can move your structures in Manor Lords, and the game calls this process relocation. In this guide to relocating buildings in Manor Lords, we've listed all the structures you can move to make the process of expanding your burgeoning settlement just a little bit easier.
]]>Medieval city builder Manor Lords was Steam's most-wishlisted game prior to release, and has now managed the feat of transmuting that anticipation into broad enthusiasm and very healthy sales. Not too shabby, considering that it's mostly the work of just one person, Grzegorz Styczeń of Slavic Magic, who has hopefully found time to sleep now and then between fielding bug reports and preparing the game's first patches.
Styczeń understandably doesn't have much time for interviews right now - those troublesome archers aren't going to balance themselves - but yesterday I spoke to Tim Bender, CEO of Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse, about how Styczeń is getting on. The answer, apparently, is: pretty good, because Styczeń has a healthy approach to early access development in keeping players close, without quite handing them the wheel.
]]>Want to increase your Settlement Level in Manor Lords? One of the ultimate goals in any game of Manor Lords is to slowly see your community evolve from a ramshackle tent housing a handful of peasants to a large town fit for a baron. ]]>Manor Lords developer Slavic Magic, aka Greg Styczeń, has laid out the broad strokes of the game's first proper patch in early access. This follows a boisterous opening weekend that has seen the new city builder top purchase charts on Steam, causing Valve's mighty servers to crumble under the strain like overloaded oxen.
]]>“Given the opportunity, players will become a merciless egg baron and sit chuckling on a throne of shells while medieval Europe cowers beneath their imperious yolk,” is what I assume Soren Jonson once said, and it looks like Manor Lords is proving this timeless adage right once more. Despite shifting over a million units and hitting the highest concurrent player count of any ‘city builder’ on Steam, creator Greg ‘Slavic Magic’ Styczeń is already looking to the future of how the building game handles trade.
]]>Historical strategy sim Manor Lords - which budding feudal despot Nic Reuben has deemed "a sturdy and immersive builder that feels incomplete yet alive with promise" - is now available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Microsoft Store and GOG. It was Steam's most wishlisted game before launch, and it's so popular right now that Steam's servers are struggling to keep up: there's an official developer post on the game's Steam forum warning that "the store is overwhelmed from all the people buying, it may take a couple tries for a bit while things calm down".
]]>Trying to make weapons and armor in Manor Lords? There comes a time in Manor Lords where you'll need to make sure that your populace is outfitted for combat. So! Here's how to get off to a roaring start in Manor Lords!
]]>While playing Manor Lords for review, I kept making mental notes to spend time watching the individual routes its villagers and beasts take each day. It’s one of those interestingly granular games that actually becomes more so by remaining a bit mysterious in ways I’m sure will annoy some, so I reasoned some people-watching would be illuminating. And by people, I mean oxen.
]]>Want to increase Approval in Manor Lords? Approval is the metric in Manor Lords that dictates the overall satisfaction of your peasants. Happy villagers are good villagers, and if you let your Approval rating fall too low, your territory will slowly devolve as families leave or even resort to crime. In this guide on how to increase Approval in Manor Lords, we'll tell you what you need to know to keep your Approval rating in the green, which is where you want it to stay in order to become a successful ruler over a satisfied settlement.

Confusing.
This guide is designed to concisely explain everything you need to know about Clothing supply stall requirements, and how to make Clothes, Cloaks, and Shoes in Manor Lords. So let's get started.
]]>What are the best Development Points to unlock in Manor Lords? You can walk amongst the good folk inhabiting your village, observe the market stalls for yourself, and even stand before your troops before they head out to battle!
That said, as Manor Lords is still an Early Access title, the third person mode is very barebones at the moment. It's more of a fun aside than anything else, though seeing your bustling settlement grow from the point of view of a person on the ground does offer up an immense feeling of satisfaction. If you'd like to check out this fun gameplay mode while its still in its infancy, take a look at the following guide on how to play Manor Lords in third person.

This guide will walk you through how to grow your own Herbs in Manor Lords, as well as how to import Herbs from elsewhere if you're in desperate need of them.

Manor Lords gives players access to a whopping 40+ buildings, most of which are unlocked from the start of the game. To fix this, you need to learn how to store resources in the two dedicated resource buildings: the Storehouse, and the Granary. We'll go over both of these buildings and more key information (such as how to move materials from one storage building to another) in this guide, so keep reading for all the answers you seek!
]]>Want to get more Oxen in Manor Lords? Oxen are the ever-reliable beasts of burden in Manor Lords who will be your best friends when building out a town. Unfortunately, at the start of Manor Lords you only start with one ox, which will quickly prove to not be enough as your settlement starts expanding. It's not too hard to acquire more of these friendly bovines, so read on if you're interested in getting more Oxen in Manor Lords.
]]>Want to place roads in Manor Lords? As your tiny encampment evolves into a small village and eventually a large town in Manor Lords, you're going to need to build roads to keep your population well-connected.

]]>Looking for some tips and tricks to help you get started in Manor Lords? It's quite astonishing, what Slavic Magic - predominantly a one-person dev team - has done in creating Manor Lords. The newest city-builder on the block does a whole lot of things rather differently to most games in the genre, with a gridless building and roads system and the inclusion of Total War-style combat being the two features players have talked about the most ahead of release.
But as with many city-builders, it can be difficult to understand exactly what needs doing and when. There's already a lot of content in Manor Lords, even in early access, and not much in the way of tutorials that teach you how everything actually works, or the best strategies to employ to build your settlement from nothing to greatness.
In this guide, we offer 16 (well, actually more like 40) of the best Manor Lords tips and tricks for both beginners and advanced players alike. We'll go over everything from family management and road placement to the different seasons, trade, warfare, and much more. So let's get started!
]]>Trying to deal with Bandits in Manor Lords? Bandits are a definite annoyance in Manor Lords, especially in the early hours of a new game when all you're trying to do is expand your struggling town successfully. ]]>Want to make Ale in Manor Lords? As with most city-builders, Manor Lords has a frightful number of different resources to craft, and as we all know, the key to a happy citizen is alcohol. Ale can be consumed at a Tavern to keep your citizens jolly, but the process to create your own Ale is not at all straightforward, and requires a few steps to first obtain Malt and Barley.

]]>Want to get more Families and increase Population in Manor Lords? The most important resource in Slavic Magic's ambitious new city-builder Manor Lords is neither Wood nor Stone, nor even Ale: it's Families. Families are essentially your basic unit in Manor Lords, and you get things done in your settlement by giving a family a job, such as chopping wood, or building a church, or gathering berries.
In order to boost your overall Population, you should always aim to increase the number of families in your settlement as quickly as possible. This guide will walk you through how to get more Families and increase your Population in Manor Lords by making your village as inviting as possible.
]]>When, in town building simulation Manor Lords, you erect your first manor, it feels natural to place it in the center of your humble 14th century European settlement. It presents as a locus of power, where your character avatar resides. Also, it’s right there in the title. I built mine down a side road, between oxen posts and granaries, for no real reason but free space. The more I play, the more it feels a fitting place. Not sidelined, exactly, just not especially loud. I need the taxes it brings to pay mercenaries to see off bandits, but lords - their whims and ambitions - don’t set the tone here. Parchment and seals aren’t as important as tilled earth; as winter snow, spring thaws and autumn harvests. So, despite the title, this sedate, curious, and intricate sim isn’t really about lords, nor manors. Not half as much, anyway, as it is about manure.
]]>Slavic Magic, the sole creator behind anticipated (sub genres forthcoming) strategy game Manor Lords, has written a transparent and refreshingly to-the-point blog post on Steam addressing both expectations and future updates. Specifically, Slavic Magic aka Greg Manor Lords has taken time to outline exactly what his game - currently the most wishlisted on Steam, ahead of Hades 2 - isn’t.
]]>Want to play Manor Lords multiplayer? It's certainly an appealing idea, either to collaborate with a friend to construct the winding roads and plots of a Manor Lords settlement, or to embrace your inner RTS fan and go to war with other players. Alas, this won't be possible when Manor Lords first releases, but the jury is still out as to whether it might arrive in the future.
In this quick guide, we'll answer all your questions about the prospect of co-op and competitive multiplayer in Manor Lords, and whether it might arrive sometime in the future.
]]>When does Manor Lords release in your region? The most wishlisted game on Steam is very nearly here, and I can scarcely remember more hype around a city-builder releasing into early access. But Manor Lords has some very neat ideas, including a gridless map with freeform road and building placement, and Total War-esque combat with neighbouring Lords. It's a great time, and it's no wonder everyone's looking to jump in on day one.
Below you can find the Manor Lords release date and time in your region, along with other key information such as the game's download size, whether it is coming to Xbox Game Pass, and more.
]]>I remain the least qualified person alive to appraise Manor Lords an actual strategy game – my village stewardship is proving inept, even by medieval posho standards – but I have delayed economic and social ruin long enough to know it runs well on the Steam Deck. Just as it’s smooth low-end performer on desktops, Manor Lords can easily keep its head above 30fps in handheld mode, and that’s usually more like 40-45fps with the right visual settings.
Still, there’s scope for it to become a much more Deck-friendly game, if not by its April 26th release date then hopefully at least during its early access phase. Faster performance would be nice, sure, but what this citybuilder-meets-RTS-battler really needs for optimal portability is a more refined set of controls.
]]>My most recent experiences with performance-testing strategy games have been defined by miserable sluggishness and dental drama, so it’s been a relief to find that citybuilding/RTS hybrid Manor Lords is set to launch in a relatively fine state. As an early access game, no less.
Having dug into the latest build’s GPU performance and graphics settings, I have found a few loose strands of technical flax that Manor Lords could do with snipping away. Yet it’s generally in good shape, both for early access and a solo developer project, successfully balancing strong visuals with relatively light hardware demands that should help it run on older PCs (or handhelds like the Steam Deck). Several hours in, the ugliest things I’ve seen are my road layouts.
]]>Happy New Year, folks! Have you recovered from the all the 100+ hour RPGs that came out last year? Well, I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is that everyone seems to be taking a bit of a breather in 2024, because (at time of writing at least) the official "big'uns" calendar is looking remarkably slim at the moment. There are still some heavy-hitters coming our way this year, such as Avowed, Star Wars Outlaws and Path Of Exile 2, but 2024 looks like another year where it will be the smaller, independent games that shine the brightest. They certainly make up the bulk of our most anticipated games list for 2024, which the RPS Treehouse has been feverishly putting together over the last few days. The bad news is that there are still loads of great games coming out. So come, join us, and see what's on our personal wishlists for 2024.
]]>We first saw Manor Lords a couple of years ago, when its mix of Crusader Kings-like simulation, Ages of Empires-y city-building and sweeping battles a la Total War made it one to watch. We weren’t alone in that anticipation either, as the ambitious medieval strategy game - created by a solo dev, no less - rocketed up the Steam charts to become one of its most wishlisted games.
]]>It feels like medieval city builders are experiencing a resurgence, between early access games like Foundation and up-and-comers like Farthest Frontier. Manor Lords is another example. It's a medieval strategy game in which you do the usual thing of bossing tiny people to chop trees and tend farms, but what separates it from the others mentioned is that it's also got large-scale battles, Total War style.
There's a new trailer below that breaks down how those battles work, and it looks great - particularly considering it's the work of just one person.
