Chinese publishers NetEase have bought Grasshopper Manufacture, the Japanese studio behind stylish, swaggering games including No More Heroes, The Silver Case, and Killer7. While NetEase have roots in mobile games, they have been investing in fancier things. Grasshopper say that with NetEase's cash, they plan to release "three even higher-quality 'Grasshopper Manufacture Games'" over the next decade.
]]>Killer7 is out now on PC, and one of the weirder things you can play this week. It's a hallucinatory adventure-slash-first-person shooter hybrid about seven assassins (who may actually be one person) hunting 'terrorists' that are apparently howling, self-destructing demons. It's bizarre, profane, allegorical, drenched in blood and a little bit punk. Originally launched in 2005 by Grasshopper Manufacture (and directed by Suda51), it's still holding up great thanks to its sharp, semi-abstract aesthetic. There's a trailer below, but don't expect to make much sense of it.
]]>Surreal murderventure Killer7 is a hallucinatory experience, and one that will be all the more vivid when it arrives on PC. Grasshopper Manufacture and NIS America have released a new trailer, showing off their upcoming PC remaster in action. Unsurprisingly, its razor sharp art direction holds up well at high resolutions, and a boost to framerate and an expansion to widescreen gives it a slick new look. Check out the video below, and see what Garcian, Dan and Kevin Smith (no, not that one) can do against the howling Heaven Smiles.
]]>Multiple personalities are kinda SUDA51's bag. Actually, everything about Killer7 is extremely SUDA51's bag. If a bag came to life and started monologuing during a SUDA51 game, that would also be on the level. What I'm saying is, if you've never noticed, I do believe that this gentleman has a predilection for making odd choices. And that oddness is perhaps at its most accessible (?) in killer7, a game that has only been on Gamecube and PS2 before, but now there's a remastered PC port coming. Can a No More Heroes remaster be far behind? Stop, Brock. You're getting too worked up for a Sunday morning.
