Ubisoft have apparently aborted plans for a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, according to a report on VGC. They cite "multiple development sources" who, speaking anonymously, say that the project was scrapped earlier this month.
]]>Microsoft have laid out their PC Game Pass plans for the second half of August, adding another eight games to the subscription service across the remaining weeks then removing eight at the end of the month. Additions include Zachtronics hacking game Exapunks and Ubisoft's child-friendly open world 'em up Immortals Fenyx Rising. Alas, games going include the wonderfully sad What Remains Of Edith Finch and wonderfully wonderful Hades.
]]>I groaned inwardly when I heard the first insipid joke escape the mouth of Zeus, King of the Gods, during the intro sequence of Immortals Fenyx Rising. It was very much a sign of things to come. I can't objectively fault the writing - it's just really not my kind of humour. Far too childish and on-the-nose for me. And I don't know about you, but it takes a special game for me to forgive a godawful sense of humour.
Good thing, then, that Immortals Fenyx Rising is indeed a special game. In fact, it's a strong contender for the best game of 2020 in my book.
]]>Immortals Fenyx Rising has already released one of its three planned DLCs which challenged your hero Fenyx to a new series of puzzle-y trials. ]]>A while ago I commented on the hugeness, and powerful auras, of the women in Assassin's Creed Odyssey's godly DLC. And their hugeness was only a step up from Kassandra, already a big hench mercenary girl about a foot taller than any other human that dared to look at her.
Then they brought out Assassin's Creed Valhalla, a Viking epic starring Eivor, who is a blonde giantess with massive boots who kicks over tables and won't put up with literally anything from literally anybody. And now, there is Immortals Fenyx Rising, which sprung its massive god women on me without any warning. I am starting to suspect that the Anvil engine became sentient in the last few years and if you don't put a certain number of giant ladies in your game it just stops working and sulks - in which case the Tom Clancy series is about to get really awesome.
]]>Immortals Fenyx Rising is the sort of name that you assume has a colon in it, even though it doesn't. Apparently Ubi's family-friendly mythical action-adventure had to change its name from Gods & Monsters after a challenge from Monster Energy, which is fair enough. After all, how many times have you tried to pour a refreshing energy drink into your mouth, only to discover you have inadvertently smashed part of the Ancient Greek pantheon of gods into your face instead?
Immortals still has much more in common with a slightly more budget Breath Of The Wild, or an Assassin's Creed Odyssey made from Duplo, than it does the nation's most Lynx Africa adjacent can. And since I like both of those games, and Immortals incorporates some of their best bits, I very much like Immortals. It could be the surprise sleeper hit of the year, in fact, and I'm hoping it is.
]]>Ubisoft's upcoming Greek mythology romp Immortals Fenyx Rising has announced its DLC plans and, interestingly, your title hero Fenyx actually only stars in one out of the three. The new stories coming in the season pass after Immortals' campaign will give Fenyx some new challenges before heading off to explore Chinese myths and a new Greek hero.
]]>Ubisoft's Greek mythology romp Immortals Fenyx Rising is being launched into a pretty long shadow and no, it isn't Zeus's. Between the climbing and gliding and puzzles and oh so many other things, it has a more than passing resemblance to Breath Of The Wild. One thing it won't share, though, is your ability to say peanuts to the grand quest and immediately go knock on the final boss's door. Ubisoft say that they really want you to see the game's story. Typhon will wait.
]]>Everyone just wants to be involved with cloud gaming at the moment, don't they? Ubisoft have announced they're rebranding their UPlay+ subscription service to Ubisoft+, and they're whacking it on Amazon Luna on November 10th, then Google Stadia later in the year.
For PC folks the service isn't changing much from what you might've been used to with UPlay+. It costs £13/$15, you'll have access to a library of loads of Ubi games, and be able to play upcoming new stuff like Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising.
]]>'Tis the season for Ubisoft's latest round of open-world murder simulators, but this year they have a family-friendly one too. Immortals Fenyx Rising seems like it might be a fun one, smashing Zelda: Breath Of The Wild into Ancient Greek mythology, and you can try it for yourself in a demo. Ubi have palled up with Google to release a Fenyx demo playable for free in your browser using Stadia, the cloud gaming jazz. Yeah, it has the usual cloud gaming problems, but it gives a fair sense of the game. You've only got a few days left to try it, mind.
]]>As I have now stepped through the dread portal to my 30s, I have noticed with horror that I sometimes start sentences with, "When I was young", which is basically the same as, "In my day". Might as well fall into my own grave now. But I do think - no, honestly, listen - that children's entertainment isn't as fun and grim as it used to be. Every parent I know complains mightily about a small pig at the moment, but if you go back in time then you have to pass through the terrifying talking phone on Wizadora and the unrelenting misery of The Animals Of Farthing Wood before you even get to old women being eaten by wolves.
Point is, I am firmly of the opinion that kiddies are made of sterner stuff than we often give them credit for - and if we're going to teach them that monsters are real we should then take the next logical step of teaching them that you can kick seven shades out of the monsters, cut them open and get your granny back. All of which is to say that I have played the first four or so hours of Immortals Fenyx Rising, and I think Ubi's Ancient Greek-themed action adventure (no not that one) might have managed the titanic feat of being something that children and adults can genuinely both enjoy.
]]>Ubisoft's PC game launcher Uplay is getting a makeover and a name change to extremely straightforward Ubisoft Connect for PC. It may not have a terribly cute nickname, but Ubisoft Connect is bringing cross-progression between PC and consoles, meaning your game's save data, for new Ubisoft games when it launches on October 29th.
]]>I can honestly tell you that Gods & Monsters never once made me think about Monster Energy drink, but the drinks company apparently thought otherwise. It's come to light that Monster actually filed a legal opposition to Ubisoft's Gods & Monsters trademark.
A couple of weeks ago, Ubi revealed they'd renamed the game to Immortals Fenyx Rising, citing creative reasons for the switch. That doesn't seem to be the whole story, however, because the name change came shortly after this legal challenge was filed.
]]>I'm going to get this out of the way, because every outlet with a hands on preview of Ubisoft's action-adventure Immortals Fenyx Rising (which used to be called Gods & Monsters) is going to say it somewhere. Immortals Fenyx Rising is a proper Breath-Of-The-Wildalike. It's one themed around Ancient Greek myths, yes, but you've got yer horses you can tame, yer open world to explore in any order you like, yer physics puzzle dungeons and levitating rocks ability. You've even got yer stamina timer and ability to clab onto and climb up any vertical surface, like a particularly disquieting flesh spider.
]]>Update: Read our preview for Alice B's thoughts on the game.
What was once Gods And Monsters is now officially Immortals Fenyx Rising. While we've known for a bit already, Ubisoft christened the name with a renewed announcement trailer during tonight's Ubisoft Forward stream - reintroducing their open-world hack n' slash with a December release date
]]>At this rate, Ubisoft won't get to reveal anything about their open-world Greek mythology game themselves. The new name Immortals Fenyx Rising (formerly known as Gods & Monsters) was revealed by the Taiwan ratings committee earlier this week. Now Microsoft have gone and dished what might be the release date in a prematurely-posted store page. If this new leak is to be believed, Fenyx Rising will launch on December 3rd, 2020.
]]>Ubisoft have announced another one of their Ubisoft Forward streams for September 10th, blasting more announcements and trailers. Along with the promise of a few surprises, it'll bring news on games including Watch Dogs: Legion and the cheery Zelda-lookin' action-adventure game Gods & Monsters. And yup, as rumoured, Ubisoft have indeed renamed Gods & Monsters with the infinitely-inferior moniker Immortals Fenyx Rising. Oh dear.
]]>We've heard just about heck all about Gods & Monsters since Ubisoft announced it with a cinematic trailer in 2019 and then delayed it earlier this year. More information about the open world Greek god-saving action game may be forthcoming, well, soonish. Ubisoft might be changing the game's name to Immortals Fenyx Rising when they reintroduce it.
]]>Ubisoft have announced delays for hack 'em up Watch Dogs Legion, zombie spin-off Rainbow Six Quarantine, and the Zelda-lookin' Gods & Monsters, pushing their vague release windows deeper into 2020. They're now all due in Q2 or Q3 of Ubisoft's 2021 fiscal year, which in humanspeak means from July to December 2020.The blast of business news also included word that launch sales of Ghost Recon Breakpoint were "very disappointing" for Ubisoft. Alright everybody, tidy up those ties (full Windsor, please, we're not Wall Street animals) and open your Funfax to fiscal 2021.
]]>Google held another one of their Stadia Connect conferences today, and this one was meant to be all about what games you'll be playing in the "scary" cloud come November. Sure enough, there were new Stadia games aplenty announced this evening, with the biggest addition being Cyberpunk 2077.
To help keep track of them all, here's a list of every Google Stadia game confirmed so far, as well as which games are coming at launch, which ones will be arriving a little bit later, and which games you'll only be able to play by subscribing to one of the special Stadia publisher subscriptions.
]]>Ubisoft Quebec are about finished with Assassin's Creed Oydssey but they're far from done with Ancient Greece, today announcing an open-world action-adventure game set in Greek mythology. Gods & Monsters is its name, and looking like a cheerier and less murderier take on Asscreed is its game. I do worry that Ubisoft may have misread enthusiasm around Asscreedo's mythological DLC, thinking our Alice Bee was thrilled by monsters more than massive women, but surely they've been working on Gods & Monsters for a fair while now? The cinematic announcement trailer would suggest so.
