Splash Damage, the studio behind Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory and Gears Tactics, are switching to a four-day work week for those in their London office. The change follows a Splash Damage subsidiary that successfully made the change to a four-day week in 2022.
]]>What's up gamers? It's 2021 and that means it's time to round up the team's favourite games of 2020. You'll already know our selections if you read our annual Advent Calendar, but this post gathers all those words and games together in one convenient package.
]]>Strategy games is an enormous genre in PC gaming, with real-time, turn-based, 4X and tactics games all flying the same flag to stake their claim as the one true best strategy game. Our list of the best strategy games on PC covers the lot of them. You'll find 30-year-old classics nestled right up against recent favourites here, so whether you're to the genre or want to dig deep for some hidden gems, we've got you covered. Here are our 50 best strategy games for 2023.
]]>Halloo, gentle reader. Since we're half way through the entire year of 2020 (yet somehow it is also still March?), we decided to run down, lasso and tie up some of our favourite games from the last six months, and force them into a nice list for you.
2020 still has plenty of new PC games to come, of course, but these are the ones closest to our little hearts so far. We've got strategy, we've got card games, we've got systematic reclamation of scraped spaceships. And, since Nate Crowley is one of the contributors to this list, we've got fish. Statistically speaking, there's bound to be at least one game on here that you'll ruddy bloody love too!
]]>We've been away from podcasting for a while, ever since Bungus Humongous (who used to record and edit it) fell off his skateboard and exploded into a pile of coins. But now we're back! And because we all need a chat with mates at this difficult time, we're just having a nice chat about the games we're playing every week. This time: Gears Tactics vs. XCOM Chimera Squad, and family bonding in Sea Of Thieves. Plus: the best way to store a body in a freezer chest, the secret to delicious veggie mince, and the best Scampi merch.
]]>The new Gears Of War spin-off, Gears Tactics came out yesterday, and already players are turning their soldiers into characters from other games. Tactics has you recruit various soldiers as you go on, you see, and while you can't change the general look of their bodies or faces, there are still a bunch of features you can alter to adjust them to your liking.
So, here's a few examples you could follow if you fancy having characters like Duke Nukem or Doom Guy in your squad.
]]>An XCOM-style squad tactics game spun off from Gears Of War isn't a game I'd expect to be particularly good, but Gears Tactics launched today and what I hear is: it is particularly good. Now it's out and we can all see for ourselves.
]]>Show me someone who says I'm not a fan of our excellent VidBud team, and I'll show you a liar. Recently, VidBud Matthew got an in-depth demo of Gears Tactics, a turn-based tactical entry into the Gears Of War series, and my admiration only grew.
Set 10 years before the events of the very first Gears Of War game, you'd be forgiven for thinking this'd have more in common with the alien-sniping fun of XCOM than the big, boot-stompin' FPS action of the Gears games. But in his excellent video, Matthew explains why Tactics will win hearts among both long term XCOM fans and die-hard Fenix stans alike.
]]>Rod Fergusson has worked on every Gears Of War game over the last 15 years, from starting the original Gears Of War with Epic, to helping establish The Coalition studio to work on the rest of the series. But now he's heading to pastures new, joining Blizzard to oversee all things Diablo.
"Leaving is bittersweet as I love our Gears family, the fans, and everyone at The Coalition and Xbox," he tweeted. "Thank you, it has been an honor and a privilege to work with you all."
]]>Like a heavily-sponsored Santa Claus, the Game Awards swept in last night and left us a pile of presents to unwrap. If you did the smart thing and slept through the event, you'll have missed a bunch of new announcements. Alice O and Graham did some amazing work in writing up as much as they could as it happened, but a few sly games snuck past 'em. Plus, sometimes it's just nice to have everything all in once place. Here's everything that was announced.
]]>It's often grossly reductive to say a turn-based tactical squad game looks like XCOM, but Gears Tactics really does. We got our first look at the Gears Of War spin-off in motion during The Game Awards tonight and even the UI looks similar to Firaxis's triumphant streamlined tactics 'em up. Though you certainly won't mistake Gears Tactics for XCOM, what with the men built like fridges, the gun-mounted chainsaws, the dinosaurs covered in rocket launchers, the gruesome finisher moves, the cussing, and all that noise.
]]>Microsoft had a lot of games to announce at E3 2018, but it's a little murkier this year to find out what was relevant for PC users. Some games were coming to both, others only to their Xbox One consoles. You could of course watch the entire conference right here, but for some there just isn't enough time to wade through the entire show.
Not to worry though, here are all the trailers and news for you in one place. There's a surprising amount of variety in the announced titles: from an old favourite making a return, much celebrated developers showing off their new series, to even a completely free game launching very soon. The games below aren't in any particular order but you're in for a long ride.
]]>Gears of War is coming back in a big way. Today's Microsoft E3 presser ended with a huge blast of Gears reveals. The first: a Funko based Gears of War game called Gears POP! which is... just bewildering? I don't know. Are any of you Gearheads also big Funko collectors? Seems like a weird place to start bridging games into the Funkoverse, but it is also a mobile game so what am I even complaining about? The second announcement is Gears Tactics, which is an XCOM style game set 100 years before Gears 1. That... that makes a lot more sense than Funkos. And finally, there's the big daddy announcement you all were waiting for: Gears of War 5 is indeed coming. We have two trailers and some storybits to enjoy today.
