I need to take all the opportunities to write about Fall Guys that I can get, given how much time I spend playing it with my son. This is a pretty good opportunity, too: a set of Star Wars skins are coming to the bean battle royale, as announced yesterday on May 4th, and they coincide with some major changes to Fall Guys' platforming physics.
]]>In an unexpected twist, a large amount of my time is now spent playing Fall Guys, the rubberised, free-to-play competitive bean racing game. I am therefore well equipped to tell you about its Survival Update, released this week, which adds new levels, new powerups and makes it possible to create survival rounds via the in-game level editor.
]]>Final Fantasy 14’s crossover with Fall Guys looks as gloriously chaotic as the original mean bean gauntlet - and it’s out very soon. The incoming minigame playable inside the MMO will see 24 Warriors of Light race across Fall Guys courses given a Final Fantasy-themed twist.
]]>Wacky battle royale Fall Guys is going free to play from today, so you no longer have any excuses not to try it other than an inability to decide on an outfit for your bean to wear. I’m partial to the giant foam hand costume myself. However, Fall Guys has also been removed from sale on Steam so it can become an Epic Games Store exclusive. Don’t worry if you already own the game on Steam though, because you’ll still have access through Valve’s launcher. Here’s some bouncy Free For All update gameplay in the trailer below.
]]>Mediatonic’s bean-themed party royale Fall Guys will go free-to-play on June 21st, the studio announced last night. However, this will also coincide with the game being delisted from Steam. From that point on, Fall Guys will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store, although it will still remain playable for existing owners on Steam without them having to move to Epic's launcher. The news came as part of Mediatonic’s announcement that Fall Guys is coming to Nintendo Switch and Xbox next month with full cross-play and cross-progression support, alongside its current homes on PC and PlayStation.
]]>Radiohead's surprising collaboration with Epic Games is out now. The Kid A Mnesia Exhibition is a virtual environment designed to accompany and celebrate Radiohead's classic Kid A and Amnesiac albums. It's an odd project, but it's one that makes sense for a band that are often experimental and technologically progressive.
Then they've also made items and costumes available for Rocket League, Fall Guys and Fortnite, turning Radiohead into just another brand to be engaged with in Epic's dull metaversal future.
]]>Long gone are the days when the best battle royale games were all about picking up colourful guns in an ever-shrinking safe zone. There are still plenty that fit that description, of course, but now we have battle royales about swinging swords, wobbly beans, and wrestling, too, giving us a huge variety to choose from. The best battle royales all have one thing in common, though: they're all about being the last person (or people, for team games) standing. Oh, and you usually battle it out in weird and wonderful costumes.
]]>I imagine it would have been tougher for sir Indy Jones to have made it through the Temple Of Doom if he'd been a stumbly, bouncy little guy. That's the fate that Fall Guys season 5 is dooming you to as of tomorrow. The new season theme is a jungle adventure with slippery and bouncy new jungle obstacles. As ever, it will bring a new reward track of costumes and cosmetics to unlock, one of which is that Spelunky fella. Oh, and Mediatonic are adding duos and trios squad modes.
]]>A recent Fall Guys update on Steam included a bunch of files in a folder called "BackUpThisFolder_ButDontShipItWithYourGame". The folder, which is auto-generated by Unity, includes a bunch of source files. The files were removed the following day, but their leak is potentially bad news for devleopers Mediatonic and their efforts to stop cheating in Fall Guys.
]]>Battle royale stumble sim Fall Guys is refreshing things with a new update. The mid-season 4.5 patch brings a couple of arenas to the game, custom lobbies, console and PC matchmaking, and more. Let's have a look.
]]>Can a Fall Guy fall down even in space? The answer seems to be yes, according to Fall Guys Season 4, which is heading out of the atmosphere and blasting into the retro future. The new season has just fired off seven new spacey levels, a squad mode playlist, and lots of new costumes. Oh, and they've tried to even up the odds on Fall Mountain, thank goodness.
]]>"That is genius," I said to myself as I caught my first glimpse of the colourful chaos of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout on YouTube, and my Takeshi's Castle-filled childhood came zooming back to me like at the end of Ratatouille. How is it that, before this point, no one had thought to take the all-too-familiar battle royale formula, and make it about ragdoll characters propelling themselves through obstacle courses and messing each other up along the way, rather than the typical smorgasbord of guns, looting, and ignoble deaths?
On second thought, there are ignoble deaths aplenty in Fall Guys. The game thrives on them.
]]>Epic Games have bought Tonic Games Group, the parent company of Mediatonic, who are the developers of Fall Guys. Mediatonic say that it won't change much for Fall Guys, for now, and the wacky multiplayer game will remain purchasable on Steam.
]]>The weather outside is frightful, and it's not looking much better in the bumbling stumbling world of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout. Mediatonic's wobble royale has entered its chilly third season, Winter Knockout, bringing in a blurry on seasonal new stages, suitably cosy new cosmetics, and - as an extra treat for us PC folks - the arrival of private lobbies that'll let you tumble through the game's challenges with 59 of your closest mates.
]]>The Fall Guys stooges at Mediatonic this week announced they've found a spot for new studio in Leamington Spa, which I suppose means they can go ahead and open one. They initially announced plans for a studio in the English spa town back in February, but they hadn't created a gaming sensation at that point so, y'know, fewer people were interested in the news. What are Mediatonic working on? While they say they have a few projects on the go, they only name one: Fall Guys, obvs.
]]>How do you enjoy Fall Guys? Like it? Love it? Reckon you're the game's biggest fan? Well tough luck, mate, because that honour goes to the bean stumbler's upcoming new stage, a whirly-twirly fan-packed gauntlet arriving in next week's midseason update. Oh, and it also looks like there's another mystery obstacle on the way, in the form of...
Oh, they called it Little Yeety? Sure. Why not. Fine.
]]>Fall Guys season two is trucking along with new surprises each week. Today, the gauntlet playlist has been thrown out and been replaced with the Slime Survivor show instead. Mediatonic have also bumped up the rate at which you'll see the new medieval rounds in rotation. They've mentioned some other requested features coming next week as well.
]]>As it was foretold by the dataminers, now it shall come to pass. Bouncy bean competition game Fall Guys is getting a Sonic The Hedgehog costume later this week. It's the latest of several game series crossovers that have made it into the game as unlockable skins. Now that Sega is at the table, I have a humble suggestion for a couple other characters that are great at silly fisticuffs.
]]>Gather ye longswords and witchy hats, stumble chums. Ye olde bean-basher Fall Guys just got a whole lot more medieval with the arrival of the game's second season. Charging into wibbly wobbly battle today, Mediatonic have freshened up their fumble royale with a king's bounty of new stages, costumes, features and more, each flaunting a frightfully feudal flair.
]]>I cannot forgive Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout for making me write that headline. With Season 2 of Mediatonic's bean-stumbling battle royale just around the corner, the devs have announced another randomly-appearing obstacle designed to pop out of nowhere and ruin your day, following up on last season's giant hammer with a massive new spike-covered roller. There's just, well, something about the name.
]]>It wouldn't be a medieval season without a proper gauntlet, would it? Mediatonic have been offering bits of information about Fall Guys season two over the last few weeks and have now dropped this preview for one of the new levels. Knight Fever is a new obstacle course level with all sorts of fresh new contraptions to torture your little beans in shining armor when season two starts later this week.
]]>As they do, Mediatonic have been dripping out details about Fall Guys season two before it lands this month. Torturous new obstacles and maps are coming when the fumble royale game goes medieval. Now at last we know the second season begins on October 8th. As a treat, there will be a few days of double experience points beforehand in case you need to wrap up those season one rewards.
]]>Fall Guys, evidently, did not have enough hammers in it. With a few weeks still to go before the game goes castle crashing into its next season, Mediatonic are bringing out the toolkit for a mid-season update. Today's patch shakes up the bouncy battle royale with remixed levels and the irregular appearance of a colossal spectral mallet called "Big Yeetus".
]]>As is the way with competitive multiplayer games, cheaters gonna cheat their way to cheap wins. Fall Guys is no different, despite appearing adorable and lighthearted. Folks really want those crowns without breaking a sweat. Mediatonic have revealed a now-closed secret set of servers where cheaters were once banished. They've shut it down now, but cheaters will still be getting the boot with some new anti-cheat support.
]]>Two weeks ago, Mediatonic challenged popular gaming brands and personalities to a charity bidding war. The prize would be a Fall Guys skin dedicated to the one that pledged the highest donation to gaming accessibility organisation Special Effect. The contest has run its course and Mediatonic have declared a $1 million (£748k) group pledge the winner.
]]>A whole lot of medieval foolishness with knights, dragons, castles, and drawbridges is coming to Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout with season 2 in October. Developers Mediatonic today gave a small peek at what's to come and yeah, it looks like more Fall Guys - which the main thing Fall Guys needs, really, just more of itself.
]]>Why someone would cheat in a light-hearted game about jelly beans throwing themselves down obstacle courses is beyond me. Yet, Fall Guys seems to be rife with these losers. If you've not seen it yourself, some players have felt the need to use cheats in the colourful battle royale that allow them to fly over levels to nab themselves a cheap win.
Mediatonic have already been banning cheaters for a while, but now they've figured out that disabling Steam Family Sharing stops some of those bad beans from coming back.
]]>What's your favourite Fall Guys minigame? See Saw? Door Dash? That weird thing with the eggs? I, for one, prefer the one where your merry band of tic-tacs slay the elder dragon Alduin. Now I understand that's not a very "official" route to claiming a crown or two - but thanks to modder m150, you can now traipse around The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition with a rabble of ravenous Fall Guys at your side.
]]>I've barely made my way to level 12 of 40 in the first season of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout so of course Mediatonic are already talking about teasing the second. Would you all give me a minute? I need to earn at least one crown the proper way before you sweep me into some fresh hell. A sneak peek at what's coming next will debut during Gamescom Opening Night Live next Thursday, August 27th.
]]>Would Fall Guys have been half as popular if it'd been called Fool's Gauntlet? How about Stumble Chums? I'm quite fond of the latter myself, so it's probably for the best I'm not Jeff Tanton. The Mediatonic creative director today posted a whimsical dive into Fall Guys' early life, winding a wobbly trail through concept art, ditched names and winning over publishers with Japanese gameshow gifs.
]]>I don't even watch "TimTheTatman"s Twitch streams and I'm well aware that he's been struggling for over a week to win a single game of Fall Guys - Ultimate Knockout. As a big name streamer, or so I gather, Tim wasn't allowed to suffer in silence. Oh no, his repeated and shameful failures were commented on by his viewers, his streaming friends, Twitch, and even Fall Guys itself. As of today, he's finally managed to bag a coveted crown and I'd like to think this is a moment of inspiration for Fall Guys failures everywhere.
]]>So far as I can tell, everyone's fallen hard for Fall Guys - Ultimate Knockout, the ideal blend of slapstick physics and competitive rage. The skins you can deck out your little fellas with are something else—from birds to pirates to dinosaurs. Mediatonic are betting that brands would quite like to slap their colors on a skin for gaming's current darling. They've challenged interested parties to make the highest donation to charity organisation Special Effect.
]]>The skins in Fall Guys are excellent. Mediatonic's Total Wipeout-like battle royale will let you wobble round its obstacle courses dressed as all manner of silly things - from cacti and hotdogs, to Half-Life's Gordon Freeman and Team Fortress 2's Scout. Now a leak claims that more cutesy crossover outfits are on the way, ones that will let you dress up as Pedro (the banana) from My Friend Pedro, and Chell (the human) from Portal.
]]>"The first one pager we put together for Fall Guys was basically gifs of Takeshi's Castle, and basically it was like 'Gang Beasts + Mario Party + Battle Royale'. I'm not joking, it wasn't really much more than that that got the game signed".
I'm watching an interview with Fall Guys senior designer Joe Walsh, and it's almost as lovely as the game wot he helped make. Hearing him talk about the (deserved!) meteoric success of Mediatonic's bean 'em up is a treat, but it's also neat to hear him talk about what lies ahead.
]]>It's been but a single week since Fall Guys came out, and the internet is filled with all kinds of delightful fan art of those wobbly racing jelly beans. One of the fun things about Mediatonic's colourful battle royale, is that you're able to dress up your little player characters in all kinds of silly outfits, so a lot of this fan art has brought us some wonderful concepts for potential skins, including crossovers with other games.
]]>I was today years old when I learned that Mediatonic's bean-based battle royale, Fall Guys, has more than one final level. I've played the game a bunch, and yet I've only ever played the one where you have to jump for that dang crown! Perhaps my luck will change with today's update though, because the game is getting a new level for the final beans to compete in. It's called Jump Showdown, and if you played in the beta you'll likely recognise it.
]]>Fall Guys is a brilliant game which frequently makes you feel angry with yourself, and murderous towards the rest of humanity. But with our expert Fall Guys tips covering each of the 24 different games in this minigame-fuelled battle royale, you'll learn how to wield the human condition like a weapon, and outlive countless other Fall Guys to become the champion of Ultimate Knockout.
]]>Fall Guys came out last week and took the world by freak jelly storm. Over two million people have played it on Steam alone, which strikes me as an appropriately silly number for a game where 60 beans must complete ridiculous obstacle courses. As I just said in my Fall Guys review, the first few hours are a treat.
Sadly, I'm nearly ready to stop Falling. The handful of maps and mini-games quickly get repetitive, and I make a big deal about how much a level editor could stave off bean-nui. Good news! The devs have been chatting about adding one. Bad news! It's a "huge undertaking" that doesn't seem likely to appear anytime soon.
]]>Videogames make me squeal a lot. Most people I've lived with have commented on this fact, with varying degrees of approval. Mostly people say it's nice, because they're usually squeals of joy, and usually come immediately after a pal has just done something ridiculous in Valorant or something.
Even so, when I tell you that I spent my first half an hour or so with Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout in a near constant vocal and visual display of delight (despite me being entirely alone and intermittently self-conscious about the people walking past my window), you should know that this is still sort of unusual.
Unfettered joy never survives repetition, but I'm reluctant to hold that against Fall Guys. Look at them. How could I?
]]>What makeths a man? The finest minds of our generation have already pitted their wits against this most fundamental of questions, and you may (fairly!) scoff at any newcomer with the audacity to trample over established wisdom with his own. Nevertheless, that is exactly what I shall now endeavor to do, for I believe I have access to a vital cultural artifact my predecessors were temporally denied. As the enlightened among you will already know, it is our inestimable joy and good fortune to be born into the same epoch as Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, a battle royale game about squidgy jelly beans completing obstacle courses.
I believe this provides a lens through which our assumptions can, nay, must be overturned. Ask not what maketh a man. Ask what maketh a Fall Guy.
]]>The battle-royale-but-not-like-that videogame known as Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout has exploded. In a good way. Everyone and their squishy cartoon dog has been playing it, to the point where developers Mediatonic had to repeatedly take down their servers for beefing purposes.
It's a game show in the vein of Total Wipeout, or possibly an extremely squidgy version of Takeshi's castle. Players are whittled down from 60 as they get eliminated via various mini-games, then whoever's left has to race up a hill, dodging obstacles in the hope of being the first to grab a crown. So far I've played two matches and wound up cackling in near constant delight - but for now I just want to show you some of the best Falls from the internet. I can virtually guarantee they will improve your Wednesday.
]]>The latest twist on the ‘royale’ genre, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, is out today. I had a quick run around it to write this post because I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was dragged into a colourful, bizarre obstacle course with 59 other people. The brief time I spent with it was more of a last-place simulator, sadly. I was humiliated.
]]>Yeah winning a last-man-standing battle by bursting your opponent's head is great and all, but have you ever won a battle royale after your opponent got clobbered by giant fruit rolling downhill? Such is the foolishness of Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, a 60-player party game inspired by those wacky TV game shows like Total Wipeout, Takeshi's Castle, and It's A Knockout. You know, daft obstacles, unfair traps, falling over - that sort of tomfoolery. And last night, Devolver Digital announced a release date of August 4th.
]]>We've been drowned by E3 2019 this past week, but maybe you only waded into the river of game reveals and new trailers up to your ankles. If you didn't get your hair wet, there might be some gems among the flotsam and jetsam that you missed. That's what this post is for: we've rounded up our picks for the best games of E3, based on our own impressions of either seeing the games behind closed doors at the show, or of watching the videos from the comfort of our homes.
]]>Get one hundred people together in a wasteland their natural inclination will be to find guns and murder each other to pieces, the ongoing glut of battle royale shooters would have you believe. It wasn't always this way. Television gameshows like It's A Knockout, Wipeout, and especially Takeshi's Castle once showed us that dozens of competitors can come together to fanny about in weird minigames, no murder necessary. We can get back there. Devolver Digital last night announced Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout, a hundred-player rumble where the path to victory is a long and foolish obstacle course.
]]>Trying to keep up with E3 2019 is a fool's errand, and the foaming river of content streaming down the internet's face doesn't always make it easier. So here's a round-up of every news story from the show we think matters to you, with links to our full stories (and bantful liveblogs) where relevant. We'll be updating this hourly, so keep coming back.
]]>We love a good multiplayer game here at RPS, because let's be honset, there's just something about doing battle with others over the internet that adds an extra bit of spice to the experience.
