Dyson Sphere Program is already rather overwhelming - this is, after all, a strategy sim about wrapping whole planets in conveyor belts so as to build cages around stars and harvest their juices - and now the absolute madfolk of Youthcat Studio are adding combat features. It's like watching somebody upend a bucket of termites over the world's most elaborate model trainset.
The associated Rise of the Dark Fog update is out on 15th December. Youthcat have put together a nifty announcement trailer that makes cunning use of the ability to raze factories from orbit - I'm curious to know if it was actually performed in-game.
]]>With 2021 marching on at a seemingly impossible pace, we thought it was high time we sat down in our virtual Treehouses to chat about the best games of the year we've played so far. 2021 has been an odd year for games. The first few months were front-loaded with some big meaty hitters after giving Cyberpunk 2077 a wide berth at the end of last year, while others have been pushed back even further into the depths of 2022. Indeed, a lot of the games we're really looking forward to in 2021 are still hovering away on the horizon, tantalisingly close but just out of reach.
Until those juicy morsels arrive on our gaming plates, though, these are the games we've enjoyed the most over the last six months. You'll find all sorts here, from big epic space operas and zombie horror fests to cosy town builders and err... couple's therapy puzzlers. Will any of them make it to our end of year Advent Calendar? Only time will tell. And if we've missed something you think is absolutely vital playing this year, please do shout about it in the comments. Our gaming bellies are never full these days, and the Christmas turkey is still so very far away...
]]>Dyson Sphere Program is possibly the most ambitious game I've ever played. It's certainly the most ambitious game that manages to deliver on its promise. That promise? Factorio, but in 3D, set in a galaxy of multiple spherical planets, and with the goal of creating a Dyson Swarm megastructure around a star to harness its energy.
I mean, come on. How can any development team deliver on such a promise? Let alone a development team of only five people?
]]>Dyson Sphere Program requires players to understand and master the use of Sorters. These infinitely useful and pliable little devices can ferry items from a belt into a building, or vice versa, or even from buildings to other buildings. Without Sorters, you won't get very far at all in this game, so this Dyson Sphere Program Sorters guide will hopefully help you to understand how these tools can be used and manipulated in various ways to increase the productivity and efficiency of your planet-spanning factories.
]]>Ah, the conveyor belt. Such a reliable staple of the factory-building game genre, and Dyson Sphere Program is no different. The belt's function is pretty clear, but there's a lot of useful information to know about how to use them properly. This Dyson Sphere Program belts guide will explain how belts work and how to use them effectively, along with useful tips and information on Splitters, ratios, throughputs, and much more.
]]>Playing Dyson Sphere Program with any thought to correct ratios and high efficiency means you'll have great need for a calculator. As with similar games such as Factorio and Satisfactory, already multiple Dyson Sphere Calculators have sprung up across the interwebs, attempting to make planning out new parts of your factory as pain-free as possible.
But which is currently the best Dyson Sphere Program Calculator out there? Which calculator is the most complete, and the easiest to use? We'll go over our answer to these questions below.
]]>Logistics Stations are an essential part of any Dyson Sphere Program game. Without these costly and towering creations, you'll be unable to transport cargo between different planets. But they can be pretty tricky to wrap your head around, so our Dyson Sphere Program Logistics Stations guide will walk you through every type of Logistics Station in the game and how you can use each one to fulfil your cargo transportation needs.
]]>Dyson Sphere Program forces players to make use of a great many different materials and resources, one of which is Sulfuric Acid. Without this crucial substance, you can't hope to reach the later stages of the game. This Dyson Sphere Program Sulfuric Acid guide will show you how to create Sulfuric Acid from scratch, before explaining why you may not need to create as much as you thought.
]]>It's no easy task, building a galactic network of industry so vast and mighty that you can encase a sun as a power generator, so helpfully Dyson Sphere Program will soon add a few features making that easier. The devs have laid out some of their plans for the build-o-management sim, which sold an impressive 350,000 copies in one week after it launched in early access in January. Expect new logistics features, less-fiddly building, and rebindable controls by the end of next week.
]]>There are a great many naturally occurring ores in Dyson Sphere Program, but one of the more elusive is Titanium. This strong and valuable metal is required in bulk to progress beyond the early-game, but many new players are struggling to find any. This Dyson Sphere Program Titanium guide will explain exactly how to get your hands on huge quantities of Titanium Ore, as well as what to do with it once you have it.
]]>Dyson Sphere Program is all about power. After all, your long-term goal is to create a Dyson Sphere capable of harnessing the energy of a star. But in order to do that, you'll need more modest sources of energy in order to power your colossal planet-devouring factories and production chains.
Our Dyson Sphere Program power and energy guide will help you to fully understand how power grids work in this game, along with tips on keeping your mech powered and the various fuel types you can use throughout your megastructure-constructing journey.
]]>While I keep changing my mind about how much I personally enjoy Dyson Sphere Program, there’s one thing I can say without hesitation: this is a bloody impressive piece of work. Despite being new into early access, it’s got a honkingly broad feature set already, and the sort of wildly ambitious premise you’d sneer away as a pipe dream, if it wasn’t implemented already.
That premise? To create an interstellar industrial empire, on a scale where you can capture entire stars and put them to work, like those poor dinosaurs which the Flintstones would imprison in their kitchen appliances. But great galactic oaks from little acorns grow, and this preposterous work begins with a single mech, walking about on a spherical 3D planet.
]]>Research is the backbone of Dyson Sphere Program. To progress and enhance your factory you'll need to unlock new technologies, and each technology requires a certain number of items of different types. Soon the quantity of items becomes far too great to manually produce, so you'll need to let Matrix Labs do the bulk of the work. But these buildings can be pretty confusing for new players to understand.
This Dyson Sphere Program Research guide will explain how Research and Matrix Labs work, before diving into the different Matrix Cubes and the materials required to craft each one.
]]>If you've been playing Dyson Sphere Program for more than a couple of hours, you may have come across the same problem as many other players: the problem of Oil cracking and Hydrogen production. It's a pretty tricky thing to wrap your head around, trying to produce enough Hydrogen to meet your needs so you can start cranking out red Matrix cubes. Fortunately, this Dyson Sphere Program Hydrogen and Oil guide will walk you through a tidy, tileable design that will use X-Ray Cracking to meet and even exceed your Hydrogen needs!
