A new trailer for Destiny 2: Lightfall hot and fresh out of The Geoffries tonight certainly makes the next expansion for Bungie's MMOFPS look cool. Neomuna, the neon capital megacity of Neptune, is very pretty. The new 'Strand' powers of grappling hooks and rope darts look dead cool. Bungie always have good trailers. It doesn't show any of the mindnumbing grind you'll be forced through to play the best bits but hey, that's trailers.
]]>Bungie have announced they're ending an unpopular Destiny 2 practice: removing older expansions to keep the game at a maintainable size. Necessary as it might have been for Bungie, this 'sunsetting' removing content people bought has raised hackles. Now Bungie say they've been working on the game's technoguts, and won't do that anymore. Expansions will stick around forever, though seasonal content will still leave at the end of each expansion cycle—and Bungie don't say anything about bringing back all the old stuff.
]]>As the consolidation of the games industry continues, Sony buying Bungie is the acquisition that might most directly affect me, someone who has played over 2000 hours of Destiny 2. Bungie have said things will continue as normal on all platforms. But beyond the usual issues with consolidation and platformholders buying studios, the concerns I have for Destiny 2's future stem from the same old source: Bungie's own decisions. The grind needs to end.
]]>The next Destiny 2 expansion will resurrect the dastardly Hive as Guardians, Bungie revealed today. Oh dear. Along with detailing The Witch Queen and new features like weapon crafting, Bungie spoke about long-term plans. They confirmed that yep they do plan to continue Destiny 2 past the end of the current 'Light and Darkness Saga', which will wrap up in an expansion named The Final Shape. Goodness me they announced a lot.
