And now for the bad news. Blues reports that Battlefield 1943 has actually been cancelled for PC, despite prior news to the contrary. This forum post has the news: "We know some of you eagerly have been awaiting Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Onslaught on PC, " says Karl Magnus Troedsson. "I’m sad to say that these two titles are now officially cancelled. Instead, our talented teams will focus on delivering the greatest possible gaming experience in our next behemoth release. We’re confident this will lead to an even better experience in Battlefield 3, not only on PC, but on all platforms."
]]>Error! EA say not. Oh well, at least we can expect it to cost $15.
]]>Troubling news from the news-barons at VG247: EA are offering a no-quibble refund policy for pre-orders of Battlefield 1943 on PC. The shooter has been massively successful in consoleland, but has been heavily delayed on PC. It's apparently still slated for this year despite missing the original June date. This, therefore, could just be a case of EA just being nice, rather than the project being dead. The pre-order options are still available for PC on the main site, at least. Hmm. We'll try to find out a bit more.
]]>I have to say I'd written off the last Battlefield game, 1942 sorta-remake 1943, ever arriving on PC. Its console version was yonky-donkeys ago now, and PC gamers at large currently seem very happily ensconced in Battlefield Bad Company 2 anyway. Plus BF3 is also in the not-too-distant pipeline. Too many fields spoil the battle, as the saying never goes. Regardless, DICE have just confirmed that the PC version of 1943 isn't far off. You can follow that link if you like, but you'll have to do that agegate crap only to read the following in a slightly different font, so I wouldn't bother. "Soon our PC fans will also be able to get in on the action that Xbox 360 and PS3 users have been enjoying since July 2009." So there you go. Only a year late. Footage of the console version below, in case you're unfamiliar with it.
]]>DICE's forthcoming "not Heroes" Battlefield game, Battlefield 1943, will be delayed on PC until September, reportedly due to the complications of bringing it to the PC platform. Once it turns up it'll be a downloadable game available for $15. The game will feature a simplified Battlefield 1942-style system, and revamps three of the original maps, Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. There's a trailer for Wake Island beneath the click.
]]>[When I was at NYCC, I found some time to have a quick crack at the games on the floor. Quick. As in, 10-15 minutes tops. I'm writing up some of them, before it all fades, fades away.]
A bit of an odd couple this pair, but - were I forced to conjure a link - I'd pair them as tangential twins of modern development harking back to a previous age of PC Gaming. Dragon Age is Baldur's Gate re-concieved after Bioware's console dalliances with modern technology. Battlefield 1943 is Battlefield 1942, but with a technological reboot and some minor tweaking.
]]>The New York Comic Convention (which is being attended by our own man-of-at-least-two-talents, Kieron Gillen) is in full swing, and this year it is being attended by many videogame companies. This means a minor deluge of videos from various sources, some of which I'll post up here. First up: Battlefield 1943, with a developer narrating. Now isn't this interesting: signs of that Battlefield Heroes parallel development breaking through here? Quite possibly, it does look rather bright and smooth and beautiful. Also far away from the painterly militarism of Battlefield 2. I can hear the howls of anti-console anguish from here.
Additionally, there's this comment in the GameTrailers thread: "no blood? i wish u could see his body teared apart" Er hmm. (There is blood.)
]]>Oh my. VG247 have the news over here. "1943 features 24-player action over three locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima." There's also a video (thanks Joystiq, love you!) which I've posted after the jump. I can see the "omg nerf bombers" forum headline from here. It does look like the game intends to revisit the World War II vehicular combat found in the first game with little change to the formula, and that's a good thing. It will apparently arrive on PC "this summer". Fantastic news.
